⁴³ Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done.”^(A)

So Jonathan told him, “I tasted a little honey^(B) with the end of my staff. And now I must die!”

¹⁹ Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory^(A) to the Lord, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell^(B) me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”

²⁷ But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb.^(A) He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.^[a]

⁷ Then the sailors said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.”^(A) They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.^{(B) 8} So they asked him, “Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What kind of work do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?”

⁹ He answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord,^(C) the God of heaven,^(D) who made the sea^(E) and the dry land.^(F)”

¹⁰ This terrified them and they asked, “What have you done?” (They knew he was running away from the Lord, because he had already told them so.)
