36 Then Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until the morning light; let us not leave a man of them.” And they said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” But (A)the priest said, “Let us draw near to God here.”

Israel Refined for God's Glory

    (A)who are called by the name of Israel,
    and (B)who came from the waters of Judah,
(C)who swear by the name of the Lord
    and confess the God of Israel,
    but not in truth or right.
For they call themselves after the holy city,
    (D)and stay themselves on the God of Israel;
    the Lord of hosts is his name.

    they delight to draw near to God.

    I have made the Lord God my (B)refuge,
    that I may (C)tell of all your works.

11 (A)And the next day Saul put the people (B)in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.

So Joshua came upon them suddenly, having marched up all night from Gilgal. 10 (A)And the Lord threw them into a panic before Israel, who[a] struck them with a great blow at Gibeon and chased them by the way of (B)the ascent of Beth-horon and struck them as far as Azekah and Makkedah. 11 And as they fled before Israel, while they were (C)going down the ascent of Beth-horon, (D)the Lord threw down large stones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died because of the hailstones than the sons of Israel killed with the sword.

(E)“Sun, stand still at Gibeon,
    and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
    until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.

Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. 14 (F)There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for (G)the Lord fought for Israel.
