³⁵ Then Saul built an altar^(A) to the Lord; it was the first time he had done this.

¹⁷ But he always went back to Ramah,^(A) where his home was, and there he also held court^(B) for Israel. And he built an altar^(C) there to the Lord.

⁵ having a form of godliness^(A) but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.^(B)

¹² Then Samuel took a stone^(A) and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer,^[a](B) saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

⁹ Then Samuel^(A) took a suckling lamb and sacrificed it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. He cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him.^(B)

⁴ Early the next day the people built an altar and presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings.^(A)
