⁸ When Saul mustered^(A) them at Bezek,^(B) the men of Israel numbered three hundred thousand and those of Judah thirty thousand.

⁹ Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.^(A)

⁴ When Judah attacked, the Lord gave the Canaanites and Perizzites^(A) into their hands, and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.^{(B) 5} It was there that they found Adoni-Bezek^(C) and fought against him, putting to rout the Canaanites and Perizzites.

¹² Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah ¹³ and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem. ¹⁴ Their enrollment^(A) by families was as follows:

¹⁹ These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities^(D) throughout Judah.^(E)

⁴ So Saul summoned the men and mustered them at Telaim—two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand from Judah.

¹⁵ Then Samuel left Gilgal^[a] and went up to Gibeah^(A) in Benjamin, and Saul counted the men who were with him. They numbered about six hundred.^(B)

² The leaders of all the people of the tribes of Israel took their places in the assembly of God’s people, four hundred thousand men^(A) armed with swords.
