¹⁴ Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go ^(A)to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there.”

⁸ You shall go down before me ^(A)to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. ^(B)Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do.”

¹⁶ He went from year to year on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and judged Israel in all those places.

³⁸ All these men of war, who could keep ranks, came to Hebron with a loyal heart, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel were of ^(A)one mind to make David king. ³⁹ And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking, for their brethren had prepared for them.

²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him ^(A)whom the Lord has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?”

So all the people shouted and said, ^(B)“Long^[a] live the king!”

²⁵ Then Samuel explained to the people ^(C)the behavior of royalty, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

³ And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, ^(A)fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and ^(B)set it in its place again.
