Người Phi-li-tin Không Cho Đa-vít Theo Họ Ra Trận
29 Quân Phi-li-tin tập họp toàn bộ lực lượng tại A-phéc,[a] trong khi quân Y-sơ-ra-ên đóng trại bên suối nước trong thung lũng Gít-rê-ên. 2 Các nhà lãnh đạo Phi-li-tin đi trước, dẫn đầu những đoàn quân hàng trăm hoặc hàng ngàn người; Đa-vít và những người theo chàng đi sau cùng với vua A-kích. 3 Các quan tướng Phi-li-tin hỏi: “Bọn Hy-bá này làm gì ở đây?” Vua A-kích đáp: “Đây là Đa-vít, tôi tớ vua Sau-lơ, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nó ở với tôi cả năm nay. Từ ngày nó bỏ chủ theo tôi cho đến nay, tôi không thấy nó có lỗi gì cả.”
4 Nhưng các quan tướng Phi-li-tin nổi giận với vua A-kích mà rằng: “Vua hãy cho người ấy về nơi vua đã chỉ định cho nó ở. Nó không được ra trận với chúng ta, kẻo nó trở thành địch thủ của chúng ta trong chiến trận. Thật vậy, nó có cách nào lấy lòng chủ nó tốt hơn là nộp đầu của binh sĩ ta? 5 Vua nên nhớ tên Đa-vít này là tên mà bọn chúng hát hò khi nhảy múa:
‘Sau-lơ giết hàng ngàn,
Đa-vít giết hàng vạn.’ ”
6 Vua A-kích đành phải gọi Đa-vít đến và bảo: “Có CHÚA Hằng Sống, ngươi là người ngay thẳng. Ta muốn ngươi phục vụ[b] trong quân ngũ của ta, vì ta không thấy ngươi có điều gì sai quấy kể từ ngày ngươi đến ở với ta cho đến nay. Nhưng những người lãnh đạo không bằng lòng. 7 Vậy ngươi hãy trở về bình an, và đừng làm gì phật lòng các nhà lãnh đạo Phi-li-tin.”
8 Đa-vít phản đối: “Nhưng tôi đã làm gì? Từ ngày tôi phục vụ vua cho đến nay, vua có thấy đầy tớ vua phạm lỗi nào mà tôi không được ra trận đánh kẻ thù của vua là chủ tôi?”
9 Vua A-kích đáp: “Ta biết. Đối với ta, ngươi tốt như một sứ giả của Đức Chúa Trời. Tuy nhiên các quan tướng Phi-li-tin đã quyết định không cho ngươi ra trận chiến đấu bên cạnh họ. 10 Vậy, sáng mai hãy dậy sớm, ngươi và các tôi tớ đang ở với ngươi,[c] các ngươi hãy dậy sớm và ra đi khi trời vừa sáng.”
11 Sáng hôm sau, Đa-vít và những người theo chàng dậy sớm và ra đi, trở về xứ người Phi-li-tin. Trong khi đó, quân Phi-li-tin tiến lên trũng Gít-rê-ên.

29 Dân Phi-li-tin tập họp các quân sĩ tại A-phéc còn dân Ít-ra-en đóng quân gần suối Ghít-rê-ên. 2 Các lãnh tụ Phi-li-tin đi ra theo từng toán một trăm và một ngàn người. Đa-vít và những người theo ông đi sau lưng A-kích.
3 Các viên chỉ huy của Phi-li-tin hỏi, “Bọn Hê-bơ-rơ nầy làm gì đây?”
A-kích giải thích, “Đây là Đa-vít, người đã phục vụ Sau-lơ, vua Ít-ra-en, nhưng nó đã ở với ta hơn một năm nay. Ta không thấy nó có điều gì xấu kể từ ngày nó bỏ Sau-lơ.”
4 Nhưng các vị chỉ huy Phi-li-tin nổi giận cùng A-kích và bảo, “Hãy đuổi nó về thành mà vua cấp cho nó. Nó không thể nào ra trận với chúng ta được đâu, nếu không chúng ta sẽ có một kẻ thù ngay trong doanh trại mình đó. Nó dám lập công với vua nó bằng cách giết quân ta lắm. 5 Chính Đa-vít nầy là người mà dân Ít-ra-en nhảy múa ca hát:
‘Sau-lơ giết hàng ngàn quân thù,
còn Đa-vít giết hàng vạn.’”
6 Vậy A-kích gọi Đa-vít lại bảo, “Ta lấy danh CHÚA hằng sống mà cam đoan rằng anh rất trung thành. Ta rất muốn anh phục vụ trong quân ngũ ta. Từ ngày anh đến với ta, ta không thấy anh có lỗi gì. Nhưng các lãnh tụ kia không tin tưởng anh. [a] 7 Thôi anh đi về đi. Đừng làm điều gì phật ý các vua Phi-li-tin.”
8 Đa-vít hỏi, “Tôi đã làm điều gì sai quấy? Từ ngày tôi đến với vua tới nay vua có thấy tôi làm điều gian ác nào không? Sao tôi không thể đi đánh quân thù của vua và chúa tôi?”
9 A-kích đáp, “Ta biết anh là người tốt như thiên sứ từ Thượng Đế vậy. Tuy nhiên các vị chỉ huy Phi-li-tin bàn nhau, ‘Đừng cho Đa-vít ra trận.’ 10 Thôi sáng sớm mai anh và các đầy tớ của chủ anh hãy ra đi. Vừa rạng đông thì thức dậy lên đường.”
11 Vậy sáng sớm hôm sau Đa-vít và những người theo ông thức dậy và trở về xứ Phi-li-tin. Còn quân Phi-li-tin tiến lên Ghít-rê-ên.

- I Sa-mu-ên 29:6 các lãnh tụ kia không tin tưởng anh Câu nầy lấy trong bản tiêu chuẩn Hê-bơ-rơ. Bản cổ Hi-lạp ghi rằng những lãnh tụ Phi-li-tin hài lòng về Đa-vít, chỉ có những viên chỉ huy quân đội là e ngại ông ta thôi.

Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag
29 The Philistines gathered(A) all their forces at Aphek,(B) and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.(C) 2 As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear(D) with Achish. 3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David,(E) who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year,(F) and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send(G) the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn(H) against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? 5 Isn’t this the David they sang about in their dances:
“‘Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands’?”(I)
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day(J) you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers(K) don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel(L) of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders(M) have said, ‘He must not go up with us into battle.’ 10 Now get up early, along with your master’s servants who have come with you, and leave(N) in the morning as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

29 Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in Jezreel.
2 And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish.
3 Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day?
4 And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
5 Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
6 Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
7 Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.
8 And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
9 And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
10 Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart.
11 So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
