⁵ After that you shall come to the hill of God ^(A)where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down ^(B)from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; ^(C)and they will be prophesying. ⁶ Then ^(D)the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and ^(E)you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. ⁷ And let it be, when these ^(F)signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for ^(G)God is with you. ⁸ You shall go down before me ^(H)to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. ^(I)Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do.”

⁹ So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God ^[a]gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day. ^10 (J)When they came there to the hill, there was ^(K)a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

Prophecy and Tongues

14 Pursue love, and ^(A)desire spiritual gifts, ^(B)but especially that you may prophesy. ² For he who ^(C)speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. ³ But he who prophesies speaks ^(D)edification and ^(E)exhortation and comfort to men. ⁴ He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

¹¹ And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

¹⁰ And ^(A)I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, ^(B)“See that you do not do that! I am your ^(C)fellow servant, and of your brethren ^(D)who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the ^(E)testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
