2 Y acercándose los días de la muerte de David(A), dio órdenes a su hijo Salomón, diciendo: 2 Yo voy por el camino de todos en la tierra(B). Sé, pues, fuerte(C) y sé hombre. 3 Guarda los mandatos del Señor tu Dios, andando en sus caminos, guardando sus estatutos, sus mandamientos, sus ordenanzas y sus testimonios, conforme a lo que está escrito en la ley de Moisés(D), para que prosperes(E) en todo lo que hagas y dondequiera que vayas[a], 4 para que el Señor cumpla la promesa que me hizo[b](F), diciendo: «Si tus hijos guardan su camino(G), andando delante de mí con fidelidad[c], con todo su corazón(H) y con toda su alma, no te faltará[d] hombre sobre el trono de Israel(I)». 5 También sabes lo que me hizo Joab, hijo de Sarvia(J), lo que hizo a los dos comandantes de los ejércitos de Israel, a Abner, hijo de Ner, y a Amasa(K), hijo de Jeter(L), a los cuales mató; también derramó[e] sangre de guerra en tiempo de paz. Y puso sangre de guerra en el cinturón que lo ceñía y en las sandalias que tenía en sus pies. 6 Haz, pues, conforme a tu sabiduría, y no permitas que sus canas desciendan al Seol[f](M) en paz. 7 Mas muestra bondad a los hijos de Barzilai galaadita(N), y que estén entre los que comen a tu mesa(O); porque ellos me ayudaron[g](P) cuando huía de tu hermano Absalón. 8 Y he aquí, está contigo Simei, hijo de Gera, benjamita de Bahurim(Q); él fue el que me maldijo con una terrible[h] maldición el día que yo iba a Mahanaim. Mas cuando descendió a mi encuentro en el Jordán, le juré por el Señor, diciendo: «No te mataré(R) a espada». 9 Pero ahora, no lo dejes sin castigo, porque eres hombre sabio; sabrás lo que debes hacer con él y harás que desciendan sus canas con sangre al Seol(S).

10 Y durmió David con sus padres y fue sepultado(T) en la ciudad de David(U). 11 Los días que David reinó sobre Israel fueron cuarenta años: siete años reinó en Hebrón, y treinta y tres años reinó en Jerusalén(V). 12 Salomón se sentó en el trono de David su padre y su reino se afianzó en gran manera(W).

Salomón consolida su reino

13 Entonces Adonías, hijo de Haguit, vino a Betsabé, madre de Salomón; y ella le dijo: ¿Vienes en paz(X)? Y él respondió: En paz. 14 Y añadió: Tengo algo que decirte[i]. Y ella dijo: Habla. 15 Y él dijo: Tú sabes que el reino era mío(Y) y que todo Israel esperaba que yo fuera rey[j](Z); pero el reino ha cambiado de manos y ha venido a ser de mi hermano(AA), porque por voluntad del Señor era suyo(AB). 16 Ahora yo te hago una petición, no me la niegues[k]. Y ella le dijo: Habla. 17 Él entonces dijo: Te ruego que hables al rey Salomón, pues él no te lo negará, para que me dé por mujer a Abisag sunamita(AC). 18 Y Betsabé dijo: Muy bien; hablaré por ti al rey.

19 Betsabé fue al rey Salomón para hablarle por Adonías. El rey se levantó a recibirla, se inclinó delante de ella, y se sentó en su trono; hizo colocar un trono para la madre del rey(AD) y ella se sentó a su diestra(AE). 20 Entonces ella dijo: Te hago una pequeña petición; no me la niegues(AF). Y el rey le dijo: Pide, madre mía, porque no te la negaré. 21 Y ella dijo: Que se dé a Abisag sunamita(AG) por mujer a tu hermano Adonías. 22 El rey Salomón respondió, y dijo a su madre: ¿Por qué pides a Abisag sunamita para Adonías? Pide para él también el reino(AH), pues es mi hermano mayor(AI), y con él están el sacerdote Abiatar y Joab, hijo de Sarvia(AJ). 23 Y el rey Salomón juró por el Señor, diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun más, si Adonías no ha hablado esta palabra contra su propia vida[l](AK). 24 Ahora pues, vive el Señor que me ha confirmado y me ha puesto en el trono de mi padre David, y que me ha hecho una casa[m](AL) como había prometido[n], que Adonías morirá hoy mismo. 25 El rey Salomón envió a[o] Benaía, hijo de Joiada(AM), y este arremetió contra Adonías[p] y lo mató[q].

26 Entonces dijo el rey al sacerdote Abiatar: Vete a Anatot(AN), a tu campo, porque mereces morir[r](AO); pero no te daré muerte en esta ocasión[s] porque llevaste el arca del Señor Dios[t] delante de mi padre David(AP), y porque fuiste afligido con todas las cosas con que mi padre fue afligido(AQ). 27 Así Salomón privó[u] a Abiatar de ser sacerdote del Señor, para que se cumpliera la palabra que el Señor había hablado acerca de la casa de Elí(AR) en Silo.

28 Cuando las noticias llegaron a Joab (porque Joab había seguido a Adonías(AS), aunque no había seguido a Absalón(AT)), Joab huyó a la tienda del Señor y se asió de los cuernos del altar(AU). 29 Y se le informó al rey Salomón que Joab había huido a la tienda del Señor, y[v] que estaba junto al altar. Entonces Salomón envió a Benaía, hijo de Joiada(AV), diciendo: Ve y arremete contra él(AW). 30 Benaía entró en la tienda del Señor y le dijo: Así ha dicho el rey: «Sal de ahí.» Pero él dijo: No, pues moriré aquí. Benaía llevó la respuesta[w] al rey, diciendo: Así habló Joab y así me respondió. 31 Y el rey le dijo: Haz como él ha dicho(AX); arremete contra él, mátalo y entiérralo, para que quites de mí y de la casa de mi padre la sangre que Joab derramó sin causa(AY). 32 El Señor hará volver su sangre sobre su propia cabeza(AZ), porque él arremetió contra dos hombres más justos y mejores que él y los mató(BA) a espada sin que mi padre David lo supiera: a Abner(BB), hijo de Ner, comandante del ejército de Israel, y a Amasa(BC), hijo de Jeter, comandante del ejército de Judá. 33 Su sangre, pues, recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab y sobre la cabeza de su descendencia[x] para siempre(BD); pero para David y su descendencia[y], para su casa y su trono, haya paz de parte del Señor para siempre. 34 Entonces subió Benaía, hijo de Joiada, arremetió contra él y lo mató(BE); y fue sepultado en su casa en el desierto(BF). 35 En su lugar el rey nombró sobre el ejército a Benaía, hijo de Joiada(BG), y el rey nombró al sacerdote Sadoc(BH) en lugar de Abiatar(BI).

36 Después el rey envió a llamar a Simei(BJ), y le dijo: Edifícate una casa en Jerusalén, vive ahí y no salgas de allí a ninguna parte. 37 Porque el día que salgas y pases el torrente Cedrón(BK), ten por cierto que sin duda morirás; tu sangre recaerá[z] sobre tu cabeza(BL). 38 Entonces Simei dijo al rey: La palabra es buena; como ha dicho el rey mi señor, así lo hará tu siervo. Y vivió Simei en Jerusalén muchos días.

39 Pero aconteció al cabo de tres años, que dos de los siervos de Simei huyeron a Aquis, hijo de Maaca, rey de Gat(BM). Le avisaron a Simei, diciéndole: He aquí, tus siervos están en Gat. 40 Simei se levantó, ensilló su asno y fue a Gat a ver a Aquis para buscar a sus siervos. Fue, pues, Simei y trajo sus siervos de Gat. 41 Pero informaron a Salomón que Simei había ido de Jerusalén hasta Gat y había vuelto. 42 Entonces el rey envió a llamar a Simei y le dijo: ¿No te hice jurar por el Señor y te advertí seriamente, diciendo: «El día que salgas y vayas a cualquier parte, ten por seguro que ciertamente morirás»? Y tú me dijiste: «La palabra que he oído es buena». 43 ¿Por qué, entonces, no guardaste el juramento del Señor y el mandamiento que te impuse[aa]? 44 Dijo además el rey a Simei: Tú sabes todo el mal que hiciste a mi padre David(BN), que tú reconoces en tu corazón[ab]; el Señor, pues, hará recaer tu mal sobre tu propia cabeza(BO). 45 Pero el rey Salomón será bendito, y el trono de David será firme delante del Señor para siempre(BP). 46 Entonces el rey mandó a Benaía, hijo de Joiada, y este salió y arremetió contra Simei[ac] y lo mató[ad]. Así fue confirmado el reino en las manos de Salomón(BQ).

Mandato de David a Salomón

2 Llegaron los días en que David había de morir, y ordenó a Salomón su hijo, diciendo: 2 Yo sigo el camino de todos en la tierra; esfuérzate, y sé hombre. 3 Guarda los preceptos de Jehová tu Dios, andando en sus caminos, y observando sus estatutos y mandamientos, sus decretos y sus testimonios, de la manera que está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que prosperes en todo lo que hagas y en todo aquello que emprendas; 4 para que confirme Jehová la palabra que me habló, diciendo: Si tus hijos guardaren mi camino, andando delante de mí con verdad, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, jamás, dice, faltará a ti varón en el trono de Israel.

5 Ya sabes tú lo que me ha hecho Joab hijo de Sarvia, lo que hizo a dos generales del ejército de Israel, a Abner(A) hijo de Ner y a Amasa(B) hijo de Jeter, a los cuales él mató, derramando en tiempo de paz la sangre de guerra, y poniendo sangre de guerra en el talabarte que tenía sobre sus lomos, y en los zapatos que tenía en sus pies. 6 Tú, pues, harás conforme a tu sabiduría; no dejarás descender sus canas al Seol en paz. 7 Mas a los hijos de Barzilai(C) galaadita harás misericordia, que sean de los convidados a tu mesa; porque ellos vinieron de esta manera a mí, cuando iba huyendo de Absalón tu hermano. 8 También tienes contigo a Simei hijo de Gera, hijo de Benjamín, de Bahurim, el cual me maldijo con una maldición fuerte el día que yo iba a Mahanaim.(D) Mas él mismo descendió a recibirme al Jordán, y yo le juré por Jehová diciendo: Yo no te mataré a espada.(E) 9 Pero ahora no lo absolverás; pues hombre sabio eres, y sabes cómo debes hacer con él; y harás descender sus canas con sangre al Seol.

Muerte de David

(1 Cr. 29.26-30)

10 Y durmió David con sus padres, y fue sepultado en su ciudad. 11 Los días que reinó David sobre Israel fueron cuarenta años; siete años reinó en Hebrón, y treinta y tres años reinó en Jerusalén.(F) 12 Y se sentó Salomón en el trono de David su padre,(G) y su reino fue firme en gran manera.

Salomón afirma su reino

13 Entonces Adonías hijo de Haguit vino a Betsabé madre de Salomón; y ella le dijo: ¿Es tu venida de paz? Él respondió: Sí, de paz. 14 En seguida dijo: Una palabra tengo que decirte. Y ella dijo: Di. 15 Él dijo: Tú sabes que el reino era mío, y que todo Israel había puesto en mí su rostro para que yo reinara; mas el reino fue traspasado, y vino a ser de mi hermano, porque por Jehová era suyo. 16 Ahora yo te hago una petición; no me la niegues. Y ella le dijo: Habla. 17 Él entonces dijo: Yo te ruego que hables al rey Salomón (porque él no te lo negará), para que me dé a Abisag sunamita por mujer. 18 Y Betsabé dijo: Bien; yo hablaré por ti al rey.

19 Vino Betsabé al rey Salomón para hablarle por Adonías. Y el rey se levantó a recibirla, y se inclinó ante ella, y volvió a sentarse en su trono, e hizo traer una silla para su madre, la cual se sentó a su diestra. 20 Y ella dijo: Una pequeña petición pretendo de ti; no me la niegues. Y el rey le dijo: Pide, madre mía, que yo no te la negaré. 21 Y ella dijo: Dése Abisag sunamita por mujer a tu hermano Adonías. 22 El rey Salomón respondió y dijo a su madre: ¿Por qué pides a Abisag sunamita para Adonías? Demanda también para él el reino; porque él es mi hermano mayor, y ya tiene también al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab hijo de Sarvia. 23 Y el rey Salomón juró por Jehová, diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, que contra su vida ha hablado Adonías estas palabras. 24 Ahora, pues, vive Jehová, quien me ha confirmado y me ha puesto sobre el trono de David mi padre, y quien me ha hecho casa, como me había dicho, que Adonías morirá hoy. 25 Entonces el rey Salomón envió por mano de Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual arremetió contra él, y murió.

26 Y el rey dijo al sacerdote Abiatar: Vete a Anatot, a tus heredades, pues eres digno de muerte; pero no te mataré hoy, por cuanto has llevado el arca de Jehová el Señor delante de David mi padre,(H) y además has sido afligido en todas las cosas en que fue afligido mi padre.(I) 27 Así echó Salomón a Abiatar del sacerdocio de Jehová, para que se cumpliese la palabra de Jehová que había dicho sobre la casa de Elí en Silo.(J)

28 Y vino la noticia a Joab; porque también Joab se había adherido a Adonías, si bien no se había adherido a Absalón. Y huyó Joab al tabernáculo de Jehová, y se asió de los cuernos del altar. 29 Y se le hizo saber a Salomón que Joab había huido al tabernáculo de Jehová, y que estaba junto al altar. Entonces envió Salomón a Benaía hijo de Joiada, diciendo: Ve, y arremete contra él. 30 Y entró Benaía al tabernáculo de Jehová, y le dijo: El rey ha dicho que salgas. Y él dijo: No, sino que aquí moriré. Y Benaía volvió con esta respuesta al rey, diciendo: Así dijo Joab, y así me respondió. 31 Y el rey le dijo: Haz como él ha dicho; mátale y entiérrale, y quita de mí y de la casa de mi padre la sangre que Joab ha derramado injustamente. 32 Y Jehová hará volver su sangre sobre su cabeza; porque él ha dado muerte a dos varones más justos y mejores que él, a los cuales mató a espada sin que mi padre David supiese nada: a Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Israel, y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, general del ejército de Judá. 33 La sangre, pues, de ellos recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre la cabeza de su descendencia para siempre; mas sobre David y sobre su descendencia, y sobre su casa y sobre su trono, habrá perpetuamente paz de parte de Jehová. 34 Entonces Benaía hijo de Joiada subió y arremetió contra él, y lo mató; y fue sepultado en su casa en el desierto. 35 Y el rey puso en su lugar a Benaía hijo de Joiada sobre el ejército, y a Sadoc puso el rey por sacerdote en lugar de Abiatar.

36 Después envió el rey e hizo venir a Simei, y le dijo: Edifícate una casa en Jerusalén y mora ahí, y no salgas de allí a una parte ni a otra; 37 porque sabe de cierto que el día que salieres y pasares el torrente de Cedrón, sin duda morirás, y tu sangre será sobre tu cabeza. 38 Y Simei dijo al rey: La palabra es buena; como el rey mi señor ha dicho, así lo hará tu siervo. Y habitó Simei en Jerusalén muchos días.

39 Pero pasados tres años, aconteció que dos siervos de Simei huyeron a Aquis hijo de Maaca, rey de Gat. Y dieron aviso a Simei, diciendo: He aquí que tus siervos están en Gat. 40 Entonces Simei se levantó y ensilló su asno y fue a Aquis en Gat, para buscar a sus siervos. Fue, pues, Simei, y trajo sus siervos de Gat. 41 Luego fue dicho a Salomón que Simei había ido de Jerusalén hasta Gat, y que había vuelto. 42 Entonces el rey envió e hizo venir a Simei, y le dijo: ¿No te hice jurar yo por Jehová, y te protesté diciendo: El día que salieres y fueres acá o allá, sabe de cierto que morirás? Y tú me dijiste: La palabra es buena, yo la obedezco. 43 ¿Por qué, pues, no guardaste el juramento de Jehová, y el mandamiento que yo te impuse? 44 Dijo además el rey a Simei: Tú sabes todo el mal, el cual tu corazón bien sabe, que cometiste contra mi padre David; Jehová, pues, ha hecho volver el mal sobre tu cabeza. 45 Y el rey Salomón será bendito, y el trono de David será firme perpetuamente delante de Jehová. 46 Entonces el rey mandó a Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual salió y lo hirió, y murió.

Y el reino fue confirmado en la mano de Salomón.

David’s Instructions to Solomon

2 Now (A)the days of David drew near that he should die, and he [a]charged Solomon his son, saying: 2 (B)“I go the way of all the earth; (C)be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. 3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may (D)prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; 4 that the Lord may (E)fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, (F)‘If your sons take heed to their way, to (G)walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,’ He said, (H)‘you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’

5 “Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah (I)did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to (J)Abner the son of Ner and (K)Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed. And he shed the blood of war in peacetime, and put the blood of war on his belt that was around his waist, and on his sandals that were on his feet. 6 Therefore do (L)according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace.

7 “But show kindness to the sons of (M)Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who (N)eat at your table, for so (O)they came to me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

8 “And see, you have with you (P)Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a malicious curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But (Q)he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and (R)I swore to him by the Lord, saying, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’ 9 Now therefore, (S)do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man and know what you ought to do to him; but (T)bring his gray hair down to the grave with blood.”

Death of David(U)

10 So (V)David [b]rested with his fathers, and was buried in (W)the City of David. 11 The period that David (X)reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years. 12 (Y)Then Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was (Z)firmly established.

Solomon Executes Adonijah

13 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. So she said, (AA)“Do you come peaceably?”

And he said, “Peaceably.” 14 Moreover he said, “I have something to say to you.”

And she said, “Say it.”

15 Then he said, “You know that the kingdom was (AB)mine, and all Israel had set their expectations on me, that I should reign. However, the kingdom has been turned over, and has become my brother’s; for (AC)it was his from the Lord. 16 Now I ask one petition of you; do not [c]deny me.”

And she said to him, “Say it.”

17 Then he said, “Please speak to King Solomon, for he will not refuse you, that he may give me (AD)Abishag the Shunammite as wife.”

18 So Bathsheba said, “Very well, I will speak for you to the king.”

19 Bathsheba therefore went to King Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and (AE)bowed down to her, and sat down on his throne and had a throne set for the king’s mother; (AF)so she sat at his right hand. 20 Then she said, “I desire one small petition of you; do not [d]refuse me.”

And the king said to her, “Ask it, my mother, for I will not refuse you.”

21 So she said, “Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as wife.”

22 And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, “Now why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also—for he is my (AG)older brother—for him, and for (AH)Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.” 23 Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, (AI)“May God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life! 24 Now therefore, as the Lord lives, who has confirmed me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has established a [e]house for me, as He (AJ)promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today!”

25 So King Solomon sent by the hand of (AK)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died.

Abiathar Exiled, Joab Executed

26 And to Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to (AL)Anathoth, to your own fields, for [f]you are deserving of death; but I will not put you to death at this time, (AM)because you carried the ark of the Lord God before my father David, and because you were afflicted every time my father was afflicted.” 27 So Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, that he might (AN)fulfill the word of the Lord which He spoke concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh.

28 Then news came to Joab, for Joab (AO)had defected to Adonijah, though he had not defected to Absalom. So Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and (AP)took hold of the horns of the altar. 29 And King Solomon was told, “Joab has fled to the tabernacle of the Lord; there he is, by the altar.” Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, “Go, (AQ)strike him down.” 30 So Benaiah went to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said to him, “Thus says the king, (AR)‘Come out!’ ”

And he said, “No, but I will die here.” And Benaiah brought back word to the king, saying, “Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.”

31 Then the king said to him, (AS)“Do as he has said, and strike him down and bury him, (AT)that you may take away from me and from the house of my father the innocent blood which Joab shed. 32 So the Lord (AU)will return his [g]blood on his head, because he struck down two men more righteous (AV)and better than he, and killed them with the sword—(AW)Abner the son of Ner, the commander of the army of Israel, and (AX)Amasa the son of Jether, the commander of the army of Judah—though my father David did not know it. 33 Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab and (AY)upon the head of his descendants forever. (AZ)But upon David and his descendants, upon his house and his throne, there shall be peace forever from the Lord.”

34 So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and struck and killed him; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness. 35 The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his place over the army, and the king put (BA)Zadok the priest in the place of (BB)Abiathar.

Shimei Executed

36 Then the king sent and called for (BC)Shimei, and said to him, “Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and do not go out from there anywhere. 37 For it shall be, on the day you go out and cross (BD)the Brook Kidron, know for certain you shall surely die; (BE)your [h]blood shall be on your own head.”

38 And Shimei said to the king, “The saying is good. As my lord the king has said, so your servant will do.” So Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 Now it happened at the end of three years, that two slaves of Shimei ran away to (BF)Achish the son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, “Look, your slaves are in Gath!” 40 So Shimei arose, saddled his donkey, and went to Achish at Gath to seek his slaves. And Shimei went and brought his slaves from Gath. 41 And Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had come back. 42 Then the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, “Did I not make you swear by the Lord, and warn you, saying, ‘Know for certain that on the day you go out and travel anywhere, you shall surely die’? And you said to me, ‘The word I have heard is good.’ 43 Why then have you not kept the oath of the Lord and the commandment that I gave you?” 44 The king said moreover to Shimei, “You know, as your heart acknowledges, (BG)all the wickedness that you did to my father David; therefore the Lord will (BH)return your wickedness on your own head. 45 But King Solomon shall be blessed, and (BI)the throne of David shall be established before the Lord forever.”

46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and struck him down, and he died. Thus the (BJ)kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
