Elías predice la sequía
17 Elías el tisbita, que era de los moradores de Galaad[a](A), dijo a Acab: «Vive el Señor, Dios(B) de Israel, delante de quien estoy, que ciertamente no habrá rocío ni lluvia en estos años, sino por la palabra de mi boca(C)». 2 Y vino a Elías la palabra del Señor, diciendo: 3 «Sal de aquí y dirígete hacia el oriente, y escóndete junto al arroyo Querit, que está al oriente del Jordán. 4 Y beberás del arroyo, y he ordenado a los cuervos que te sustenten allí(D)». 5 Él fue e hizo conforme a la palabra del Señor, pues fue y habitó junto al arroyo Querit, que está al oriente del Jordán. 6 Y los cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana, y pan y carne al atardecer, y bebía del arroyo. 7 Sucedió que después de algún tiempo el arroyo se secó, porque no había caído lluvia en la tierra.
Elías y la viuda de Sarepta
8 Vino después a él la palabra del Señor, diciendo: 9 «Levántate, ve a Sarepta, que pertenece a Sidón, y quédate allí; porque yo he mandado a una viuda de allí(E) que te sustente(F)». 10 Él se levantó y fue a Sarepta. Cuando llegó a la entrada de la ciudad, allí estaba una viuda recogiendo leña, entonces la llamó y le dijo: «Te ruego que me consigas un poco de agua en un vaso para que yo beba(G)». 11 Cuando ella iba a conseguirla, la llamó y le dijo: «Te ruego que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tu mano». 12 Pero ella respondió: «Vive el Señor tu Dios(H), que no tengo pan[b], solo tengo un puñado de harina en la tinaja y un poco de aceite en la vasija(I) y estoy recogiendo unos[c] trozos de leña para entrar y prepararlo para mí y para mi hijo, para que comamos y muramos(J)».
13 Entonces Elías le dijo: «No temas; ve, haz como has dicho, pero primero hazme una pequeña torta de eso y tráemela; después harás para ti y para tu hijo. 14 Porque así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “No se acabará la harina en la tinaja ni se agotará el aceite en la vasija, hasta el día en que el Señor mande lluvia sobre la superficie de la tierra”». 15 Entonces ella fue e hizo conforme a la palabra de Elías, y ella, él y la casa de ella comieron por muchos días. 16 La harina de la tinaja no se acabó ni se agotó el aceite de la vasija, conforme a la palabra que el Señor había hablado por medio de Elías.
17 Pero sucedió que después de estas cosas, se enfermó el hijo de la mujer dueña de la casa; y su enfermedad fue tan grave que no quedó aliento en él. 18 Y ella le dijo a Elías: «¿Qué tengo que ver contigo(K), oh hombre de Dios(L)? ¡Has venido para traer a memoria mis iniquidades y hacer morir a mi hijo!». 19 «Dame a tu hijo», le respondió Elías. Y él lo tomó de su regazo y lo llevó a la cámara alta donde él vivía, y lo acostó en su propia cama. 20 Y clamó al Señor: «Oh Señor, Dios mío, ¿has traído también mal a la viuda con quien estoy hospedado[d] haciendo morir a su hijo?». 21 Entonces se tendió tres veces sobre el niño(M), y clamó al Señor: «Oh Señor, Dios mío, te ruego que el alma de este niño vuelva a él[e]». 22 El Señor escuchó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió a él y revivió(N). 23 Y Elías tomó al niño, lo bajó de la cámara alta a la casa y se lo dio a su madre; y Elías dijo: «Mira, tu hijo vive». 24 Entonces la mujer dijo a Elías: «Ahora conozco que tú eres hombre de Dios(O), y que la palabra del Señor en tu boca es verdad».

Elías anuncia la sequía
17 El profeta Elías, que era de Tisbé, de la región de Galaad, dijo a Ahab: «¡Juro por el Señor, Dios de Israel, a quien sirvo, que en estos años no lloverá, ni caerá rocío hasta que yo lo diga!»
2 Por eso el Señor le dijo a Elías: 3 «Vete de aquí, hacia el oriente, y escóndete en el arroyo Querit, que está al oriente del Jordán. 4 Allí podrás beber agua del arroyo, y he ordenado a los cuervos que te lleven comida.»
5 Elías hizo lo que el Señor le ordenó, y fue y se quedó a vivir junto al arroyo Querit, al oriente del río Jordán. 6 Y los cuervos le llevaban pan y carne por la mañana y por la tarde. El agua la bebía del arroyo. 7 Pero al cabo de unos días el arroyo se secó, porque no llovía en el país.
Elías y la viuda de Sarepta
8 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Elías: 9 «Levántate y vete a la ciudad de Sarepta, en Sidón, y quédate a vivir allá. Ya le he ordenado a una viuda que allí vive, que te dé de comer.»
10 Elías se levantó y se fue a Sarepta. Al llegar a la entrada de la ciudad, vio a una viuda que estaba recogiendo leña. La llamó y le dijo:
—Por favor, tráeme en un vaso un poco de agua para beber.
11 Ya iba ella a traérselo, cuando Elías la volvió a llamar y le dijo:
—Por favor, tráeme también un pedazo de pan.
12 Ella le contestó:
—Te juro por el Señor tu Dios que no tengo nada de pan cocido. No tengo más que un puñado de harina en una tinaja y un poco de aceite en una jarra, y ahora estaba recogiendo un poco de leña para ir a cocinarlo para mi hijo y para mí. Comeremos, y después nos moriremos de hambre.
13 Elías le respondió:
—No tengas miedo. Ve a preparar lo que has dicho. Pero primero, con la harina que tienes, hazme una torta pequeña y tráemela, y haz después otras para ti y para tu hijo. 14 Porque el Señor, Dios de Israel, ha dicho que no se acabará la harina de la tinaja ni el aceite de la jarra hasta el día en que el Señor haga llover sobre la tierra.
15 La viuda fue e hizo lo que Elías le había ordenado. Y ella y su hijo y Elías tuvieron comida para muchos días. 16 No se acabó la harina de la tinaja ni el aceite de la jarra, tal como el Señor lo había dicho por medio de Elías.
17 Algún tiempo después cayó enfermo el hijo de la viuda, y su enfermedad fue gravísima, tanto que hasta dejó de respirar. 18 Entonces la viuda le dijo a Elías:
—¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo, hombre de Dios? ¿Has venido a recordarme mis pecados y a hacer que mi hijo se muera?
19 —Dame acá tu hijo —le respondió él.
Y tomándolo del regazo de la viuda, lo subió al cuarto donde él estaba alojado y lo acostó sobre su cama. 20 Luego clamó al Señor en voz alta: «Señor y Dios mío, ¿también has de causar dolor a esta viuda, en cuya casa estoy alojado, haciendo morir a su hijo?»
21 Y en seguida se tendió tres veces sobre el niño, y clamó al Señor en voz alta: «Señor y Dios mío, ¡te ruego que devuelvas la vida a este niño!»
22 El Señor atendió a los ruegos de Elías, e hizo que el niño reviviera. 23 Inmediatamente Elías tomó al niño, lo bajó de su cuarto a la planta baja de la casa y lo entregó a su madre, diciéndole:
—¡Mira, tu hijo está vivo!
24 Y la mujer le respondió:
—Ahora sé que realmente eres un hombre de Dios, y que lo que dices es la verdad del Señor.

Elijah and the widow
17 There was a prophet called Elijah who came from Tishbe in Gilead. He said to King Ahab, ‘I am a servant of the Lord, Israel's God. As surely as God lives, there will be no rain or dew for the next few years. Nothing will make the ground wet until I command it to happen.’
2 Then the Lord told Elijah, 3 ‘Leave here! Go to the east. Hide in the Kerith valley, east of the Jordan River.[a] 4 You will drink water from the stream. I have also commanded the ravens to feed you there.’ 5 Elijah obeyed the Lord's message. He went to live in the Kerith valley, near the Jordan River. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat to eat, every morning and every evening. He drank water from the stream.
7 After some time the stream became dry, because there had been no rain in the whole land.
8 Then the Lord told Elijah, 9 ‘Go now to Zarephath in the region of Sidon. Go and live there. I have told a widow who lives there that she must give you food to eat.’
10 So Elijah went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the town gate, he met a widow.[b] She was picking up some sticks. Elijah asked her, ‘Please bring me some water in a jar, so that I can drink it.’ 11 While she went to get it, he said, ‘Please bring me a piece of bread too.’ 12 She replied, ‘As surely as the Lord your God lives, I do not have any bread. I have only a small amount of flour in a bowl and some olive oil in a small jar. I am now picking up a few sticks to take home. Then I will cook a meal for myself and for my son. We will eat it. Then we will die because there is nothing else to eat.’
13 Elijah said to her, ‘Do not be afraid. Go home and do what you have said. But first, use some of your flour to make a small piece of bread for me. Then bring it to me. After that, you should make something for yourself and for your son. 14 This is what the Lord, Israel's God, says: “You will not use all the flour in your bowl. You will not use all the oil in your jar. They will not become empty until the day when the Lord causes rain to fall on the ground again.” ’
15 Then the widow went home. She did what Elijah had told her to do. After that, there was enough food every day for Elijah and for the widow and her family. 16 The flour in the bowl and the olive oil in the jar never finished. The Lord had promised Elijah that this would happen.
17 Some time after that, the widow's son became ill. He became very ill until he could no longer breathe. 18 The woman said to Elijah, ‘Servant of God, why have you come to hurt me like this? Did you come to kill my son so that I would remember all my sins?’ 19 Elijah replied, ‘Give your son to me.’ He took her son from her arms. He carried the boy upstairs, to the room where he was staying. He put the boy down to lie on his bed. 20 Then Elijah prayed to the Lord, ‘Lord, my God! Why have you caused such bad trouble to happen to this kind widow? I came to stay with her and now you have killed her son!’ 21 Then Elijah lay with his body across the boy. He did that three times. He prayed to the Lord, ‘Lord, my God, please cause this boy's life to return to him!’ 22 The Lord answered Elijah's prayer. The boy started to breathe again. He was alive! 23 Elijah picked up the boy. He carried him down from his room into the house. He gave the boy to his mother and he said, ‘Look! Your son is alive!’ 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, ‘Now I know that you are a servant of God. The words that you speak are truly a message from the Lord.’

Elijah Announces a Great Drought
17 Now Elijah(A) the Tishbite, from Tishbe[a] in Gilead,(B) said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain(C) in the next few years except at my word.”
Elijah Fed by Ravens
2 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward and hide(D) in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens(E) to supply you with food there.”
5 So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning(F) and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.
Elijah and the Widow at Zarephath
7 Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him: 9 “Go at once to Zarephath(G) in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow(H) there to supply you with food.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?”(I) 11 As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”
12 “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil(J) in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain(K) on the land.’”
15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
17 Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing. 18 She said to Elijah, “What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin(L) and kill my son?”
19 “Give me your son,” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed. 20 Then he cried(M) out to the Lord, “Lord my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?” 21 Then he stretched(N) himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord, “Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”
22 The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived. 23 Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother(O) and said, “Look, your son is alive!”
24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know(P) that you are a man of God(Q) and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.”(R)
