I grandi ufficiali di Salomone
4 Il re Salomone estendeva il suo dominio su tutto Israele. 2 Questi furono i suoi dignitari: Azaria figlio di Zadòk fu sacerdote. 3 Elicoref e Achia, figli di Sisa, scribi. Giòsafat, figlio di Achilùd, archivista. 4 Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, capo dell'esercito. Zadòk e Ebiatàr, sacerdoti. 5 Azaria, figlio di Natan, capo dei prefetti. I prefetti di Salomone
7 Salomone aveva dodici prefetti su tutto Israele; costoro provvedevano al re e alla sua famiglia; ognuno aveva l'incarico di procurare il necessario per un mese all'anno. 8 Questi sono i loro nomi:...figlio di Cur, sulle montagne di Efraim; 9 ...figlio di Deker, a Makaz, a Saalbìm, a Bet-Sèmes, ad Aialon fino a Bet-Canan; 10 ...figlio di Chesed, in Arubbot; a lui appartenevano Soco e tutto il paese di Chefer; 11 ...figlio di Abinadàb, aveva tutta la costa di Dor (sua moglie era Tafat, figlia di Salomone); 12 Baana, figlio di Achilùd, aveva Tàanach, Meghìddo, sino al di là di Iakmeam, e tutto Beisan che è sotto Izreèl, da Beisan fino ad Abel-Mecola che è verso Zartan; 13 ... figlio di Gheber, in Ramot di Gàlaad; a lui appartenevano i villaggi di Iair figlio di Manàsse in Gàlaad, il distretto di Argob in Basan, sessanta grandi città con mura e spranghe di bronzo; 14 Achinadàb, figlio di Iddo, a Macanàim; 15 Achimaaz in Nèftali - anche costui aveva preso in moglie una figlia di Salomone, Bosmat -; 16 Baana, figlio di Cusai, in Aser e in Zàbulon; 17 Giòsafat, figlio di Paruach, in Issacar; 18 Simei, figlio di Ela, in Beniamino; 19 Gheber, figlio di Uri, nel paese di Gad, gia terra di Sicon re degli Amorrei e di Og re di Basan. Inoltre c'era un prefetto nel territorio di Giuda.
20 Giuda e Israele erano numerosi come la sabbia del mare e mangiavano e bevevano allegramente.

Principali funzionari di Salomone
4 (A)Il re *Salomone regnava su tutto *Israele.

Estensione e potenza del regno di Salomone
20 (C)Gli abitanti di *Giuda e Israele erano numerosissimi, come la sabbia che è sulla riva del mare. Essi mangiavano e bevevano allegramente.
21 *Salomone dominava su tutti i regni di qua dal fiume[c], sino al paese dei *Filistei e sino ai confini dell'Egitto. Essi gli portavano tributi, e gli furono soggetti tutto il tempo che egli visse.
22 La fornitura giornaliera di viveri per Salomone consisteva in trenta *cori di fior di farina e sessanta cori di farina ordinaria; 23 in dieci buoi ingrassati, venti buoi di pastura e cento montoni, senza contare i cervi, le gazzelle, i daini e il pollame di allevamento.
24 Egli dominava su tutto il paese di qua dal fiume, da Tifsa fino a Gaza, su tutti i re di qua dal fiume, ed era in pace con tutti i confinanti all'intorno. 25 Gli abitanti di *Giuda e *Israele, da *Dan fino a Beer-Sceba, vissero al sicuro, ognuno all'ombra della sua vite e del suo fico, tutto il tempo che regnò Salomone. 26 Salomone aveva inoltre quarantamila greppie da cavalli per i suoi carri, e dodicimila cavalieri.
27 Quei prefetti, un mese all'anno per uno, provvedevano al mantenimento del re Salomone e di tutti quelli che venivano invitati alla sua mensa; e non lasciavano mancare nulla. 28 Facevano anche portare l'orzo e la paglia per i cavalli da tiro e da corsa nel luogo dove si trovava il re, ciascuno secondo gli ordini che aveva ricevuti.
Saggezza e fama di Salomone
29 (D)Dio diede a Salomone sapienza, una grandissima intelligenza e una mente vasta com'è la sabbia che sta sulla riva del mare. 30 La saggezza di Salomone superò la saggezza di tutti gli orientali e tutta la saggezza degli Egiziani. 31 Era piú saggio di ogni altro uomo; piú di Etan l'Ezraita, piú di Eman, di Calcol e di Darda, figli di Maol; e la sua fama si sparse per tutte le nazioni circostanti. 32 Pronunziò tremila massime e i suoi inni furono millecinque. 33 Parlò degli alberi, dal cedro del Libano all'*issopo che spunta dalla muraglia; parlò pure degli animali, degli uccelli, dei rettili, dei pesci. 34 Da tutti i popoli veniva gente per udire la saggezza di Salomone, da parte di tutti i re della terra che avevano sentito parlare della sua saggezza.

Solomon’s Officials and Governors
4 So King Solomon ruled over all Israel. 2 And these were his chief officials:(A)
Azariah(B) son of Zadok—the priest;
3 Elihoreph and Ahijah, sons of Shisha—secretaries;(C)
Jehoshaphat(D) son of Ahilud—recorder;
4 Benaiah(E) son of Jehoiada—commander in chief;
Zadok(F) and Abiathar—priests;
5 Azariah son of Nathan—in charge of the district governors;
Zabud son of Nathan—a priest and adviser to the king;
6 Ahishar—palace administrator;(G)
7 Solomon had twelve district governors(J) over all Israel, who supplied provisions for the king and the royal household. Each one had to provide supplies for one month in the year. 8 These are their names:
Ben-Hur—in the hill country(K) of Ephraim;
9 Ben-Deker—in Makaz, Shaalbim,(L) Beth Shemesh(M) and Elon Bethhanan;
10 Ben-Hesed—in Arubboth (Sokoh(N) and all the land of Hepher(O) were his);
11 Ben-Abinadab—in Naphoth Dor(P) (he was married to Taphath daughter of Solomon);
12 Baana son of Ahilud—in Taanach and Megiddo, and in all of Beth Shan(Q) next to Zarethan(R) below Jezreel, from Beth Shan to Abel Meholah(S) across to Jokmeam;(T)
13 Ben-Geber—in Ramoth Gilead (the settlements of Jair(U) son of Manasseh in Gilead(V) were his, as well as the region of Argob in Bashan and its sixty large walled cities(W) with bronze gate bars);
14 Ahinadab son of Iddo—in Mahanaim;(X)
15 Ahimaaz(Y)—in Naphtali (he had married Basemath daughter of Solomon);
16 Baana son of Hushai(Z)—in Asher and in Aloth;
17 Jehoshaphat son of Paruah—in Issachar;
18 Shimei(AA) son of Ela—in Benjamin;
19 Geber son of Uri—in Gilead (the country of Sihon(AB) king of the Amorites and the country of Og(AC) king of Bashan). He was the only governor over the district.
Solomon’s Daily Provisions
20 The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand(AD) on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy.(AE) 21 And Solomon ruled(AF) over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River(AG) to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.(AH) These countries brought tribute(AI) and were Solomon’s subjects all his life.
22 Solomon’s daily provisions(AJ) were thirty cors[a] of the finest flour and sixty cors[b] of meal, 23 ten head of stall-fed cattle, twenty of pasture-fed cattle and a hundred sheep and goats, as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks and choice fowl.(AK) 24 For he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah(AL) to Gaza, and had peace(AM) on all sides. 25 During Solomon’s lifetime Judah and Israel, from Dan to Beersheba,(AN) lived in safety,(AO) everyone under their own vine and under their own fig tree.(AP)
26 Solomon had four[c] thousand stalls for chariot horses,(AQ) and twelve thousand horses.[d]
27 The district governors,(AR) each in his month, supplied provisions for King Solomon and all who came to the king’s table. They saw to it that nothing was lacking. 28 They also brought to the proper place their quotas of barley and straw for the chariot horses and the other horses.
Solomon’s Wisdom
29 God gave Solomon wisdom(AS) and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand(AT) on the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East,(AU) and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.(AV) 31 He was wiser(AW) than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs(AX) and his songs(AY) numbered a thousand and five. 33 He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop(AZ) that grows out of walls. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. 34 From all nations people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings(BA) of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.[e]

Solomon’s Administration

Prosperity and Wisdom of Solomon’s Reign

(R)They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
22 (S)Now Solomon’s [h]provision for one day was thirty [i]kors of fine flour, sixty kors of meal, 23 ten fatted oxen, twenty oxen from the pastures, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fatted fowl.
24 For he had dominion over all the region on this side of [j]the River from Tiphsah even to Gaza, namely over (T)all the kings on this side of the River; and (U)he had peace on every side all around him. 25 And Judah and Israel (V)dwelt[k] safely, (W)each man under his vine and his fig tree, (X)from Dan as far as Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

24 For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.
25 And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.
26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
27 And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing.
28 Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.
29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
30 And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.
