Acab e Giosafat in guerra contro i Siri
22 (A)Passarono tre anni senza guerra tra la Siria e Israele. 2 Nel terzo anno Giosafat, re di Giuda, scese a trovare il re d’Israele. 3 Il re d’Israele aveva detto ai suoi servitori: «Voi sapete che Ramot di Galaad è nostra, e noi ce ne stiamo tranquilli senza toglierla di mano al re di Siria». 4 E disse a Giosafat: «Vuoi venire con me alla guerra contro Ramot di Galaad?» Giosafat rispose al re d’Israele: «Conta su di me come su te stesso, sulla mia gente come sulla tua, sui miei cavalli come sui tuoi».
5 Poi Giosafat disse al re d’Israele: «Ti prego, consulta oggi la parola del Signore». 6 Allora il re d’Israele radunò i profeti, in numero di circa quattrocento, e disse loro: «Debbo andare a far guerra a Ramot di Galaad, o no?» Quelli risposero: «Va’, e il Signore la darà nelle mani del re». 7 Ma Giosafat disse: «Non c’è qui nessun altro profeta del Signore da poter consultare?» 8 Il re d’Israele rispose a Giosafat: «C’è ancora un uomo per mezzo del quale si potrebbe consultare il Signore; ma io lo odio perché non mi predice mai nulla di buono, ma soltanto del male: è Micaia, figlio d’Imla». E Giosafat disse: «Non dica così il re!» 9 Allora il re d’Israele chiamò un eunuco e gli disse: «Fa’ subito venire Micaia, figlio d’Imla».
Consultazione di Micaia
10 Il re d’Israele e Giosafat, re di Giuda, sedevano ciascuno sul suo trono, vestiti dei loro abiti regali, nell’aia che è all’ingresso della porta di Samaria; e tutti i profeti profetizzavano davanti a loro. 11 Sedechia, figlio di Chenaana, si era fatto delle corna di ferro, e disse: «Così dice il Signore: “Con queste corna colpirai i Siri finché tu li abbia completamente distrutti”». 12 Tutti i profeti profetizzavano nello stesso modo, dicendo: «Va’ contro Ramot di Galaad, e vincerai; il Signore la darà nelle mani del re».
13 Il messaggero che era andato a chiamare Micaia gli parlò così: «Ecco, tutti i profeti, unanimi, predicono del bene al re; ti prego, le tue parole siano concordi con le loro, e predici del bene!» 14 Ma Micaia rispose: «Com’è vero che il Signore vive, io dirò quel che il Signore mi dirà».
15 Quando giunse davanti al re, il re gli disse: «Micaia, dobbiamo andare a far guerra a Ramot di Galaad, o no?» Egli rispose: «Va’ pure, tu vincerai; il Signore la darà nelle mani del re». 16 Il re gli disse: «Quante volte dovrò scongiurarti di non dirmi altro che la verità nel nome del Signore?» 17 Micaia rispose: «Ho visto tutto Israele disperso su per i monti, come pecore che non hanno pastore; e il Signore ha detto: “Questa gente non ha padrone; ciascuno ritorni in pace a casa sua”».
18 Il re d’Israele disse a Giosafat: «Non te l’avevo detto che costui non mi avrebbe predetto nulla di buono, ma soltanto del male?»
19 Micaia replicò: «Perciò ascolta la parola del Signore. Io ho visto il Signore seduto sul suo trono, e tutto l’esercito del cielo che gli stava a destra e a sinistra. 20 Il Signore disse: “Chi ingannerà Acab affinché vada contro Ramot di Galaad e vi perisca?” Ci fu chi rispose in un modo e chi in un altro. 21 Allora si fece avanti uno spirito, il quale si presentò davanti al Signore e disse: “Lo ingannerò io”. 22 Il Signore gli disse: “E come?” Quello rispose: “Io uscirò e sarò spirito di menzogna in bocca a tutti i suoi profeti”. Il Signore gli disse: “Sì, riuscirai a ingannarlo; esci e fa’ così”. 23 E ora ecco, il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna in bocca a tutti questi tuoi profeti; ma il Signore ha pronunciato del male contro di te».
24 Allora Sedechia, figlio di Chenaana, si accostò, diede uno schiaffo a Micaia e disse: «Per dove è passato lo Spirito del Signore, quand’è uscito da me per parlare a te?» 25 Micaia rispose: «Lo vedrai il giorno che andrai di camera in camera per nasconderti!» 26 Il re d’Israele disse: «Prendi Micaia, portalo da Ammon, governatore della città, e da Ioas, figlio del re, e di’ loro: 27 “Così dice il re: ‘Rinchiudete costui in prigione, mettetelo a pane e acqua finché io torni sano e salvo’”». 28 Micaia disse: «Se tu torni sano e salvo, non sarà il Signore che avrà parlato per bocca mia». E aggiunse: «Udite questo, popoli tutti!»
Sconfitta e morte di Acab
29 (B)Il re d’Israele e Giosafat, re di Giuda, marciarono dunque contro Ramot di Galaad. 30 Il re d’Israele disse a Giosafat: «Io mi travestirò per andare in battaglia; ma tu mettiti i tuoi abiti regali». E il re d’Israele si travestì e andò in battaglia.
31 Il re di Siria aveva dato quest’ordine ai trentadue capitani dei suoi carri: «Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, ma soltanto contro il re d’Israele». 32 Quando i capitani dei carri scorsero Giosafat, dissero: «Certo quello è il re d’Israele», e si diressero contro di lui per attaccarlo; ma Giosafat mandò un grido. 33 Allora i capitani si accorsero che egli non era il re d’Israele, e cessarono di assalirlo. 34 Ma un uomo scoccò a caso la freccia del suo arco, e ferì il re d’Israele tra la corazza e le falde; perciò il re disse al suo cocchiere: «Svolta, portami fuori dal campo, perché sono ferito». 35 Ma la battaglia fu così accanita quel giorno, che il re fu trattenuto sul suo carro di fronte ai Siri, e morì verso sera; il sangue della sua ferita era colato nel fondo del carro. 36 Mentre il sole tramontava, un grido corse per tutto il campo: «Ognuno alla sua città! Ognuno al suo paese!»
37 Così il re morì, fu portato a Samaria, e in Samaria fu sepolto. 38 Quando si lavò il carro presso lo stagno di Samaria – in quell’acqua si lavavano le prostitute – i cani leccarono il sangue di Acab, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata.
39 Il resto delle azioni di Acab, tutto quello che fece, la casa d’avorio che costruì e tutte le città che edificò, tutto questo sta scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele.
40 Così Acab si addormentò con i suoi padri, e Acazia, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.
Giosafat, re di Giuda
41 (C)Giosafat, figlio di Asa, cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda il quarto anno di Acab, re d’Israele. 42 Giosafat aveva trentacinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò venticinque anni a Gerusalemme. Il nome di sua madre era Azuba, figlia di Sili.
43 Egli imitò in ogni cosa la condotta di Asa, suo padre, e non se ne allontanò; fece quel che è giusto agli occhi del Signore. 44 Tuttavia gli alti luoghi non scomparvero; il popolo offriva ancora sacrifici e profumi sugli alti luoghi. 45 Giosafat visse in pace con il re d’Israele.
46 Il resto delle azioni di Giosafat, le prodezze che fece e le sue guerre sono scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.
47 Egli fece sparire dal paese gli ultimi uomini che si prostituivano e che erano rimasti dal tempo di Asa suo padre. 48 A quel tempo non c’era re in Edom; un prefetto fungeva da re. 49 Giosafat costruì delle navi di Tarsis per andare a Ofir in cerca d’oro; ma poi non andò, perché le navi naufragarono a Esion-Gheber. 50 Allora Acazia, figlio di Acab, disse a Giosafat: «Lascia che i miei servitori vadano con i tuoi servitori sulle navi!» Ma Giosafat non volle.
51 Giosafat si addormentò con i suoi padri, e con essi fu sepolto nella città di Davide, suo padre; e Ieoram, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.
Acazia, re d’Israele
52 (D)Acazia, figlio di Acab, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele a Samaria il diciassettesimo anno di Giosafat, re di Giuda, e regnò due anni sopra Israele.
53 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore e imitò la condotta di suo padre, di sua madre e di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, che aveva fatto peccare Israele. 54 Adorò Baal, si prostrò dinanzi a lui, e provocò lo sdegno del Signore, Dio d’Israele, esattamente come aveva fatto suo padre.

Micaías anuncia la derrota de Ahab(A)
22 Pasaron tres años sin que hubiera guerra entre sirios e israelitas. 2 Pero al tercer año, Josafat, rey de Judá, fue a visitar al rey de Israel. 3 Y el rey de Israel dijo a sus funcionarios:
—Ya saben ustedes que Ramot de Galaad nos pertenece. Entonces, ¿por qué no hacemos algo para rescatarla del dominio del rey sirio?
4 A Josafat le preguntó:
—¿Quieres acompañarme a atacar a Ramot de Galaad?
Josafat le respondió:
—Yo, lo mismo que mi ejército y mi caballería, estamos contigo y con tu gente. 5 Pero antes consulta la voluntad del Señor.
6 El rey de Israel reunió a los profetas, que eran cerca de cuatrocientos, y les preguntó:
—¿Debo atacar a Ramot de Galaad, o no?
Y ellos respondieron:
—Atácala, porque el Señor te la va a entregar.
7 Pero Josafat preguntó:
—¿No hay por aquí algún otro profeta del Señor a quien también podamos consultar?
8 El rey de Israel contestó a Josafat:
—Hay uno más, por medio del cual podemos consultar al Señor. Es Micaías, hijo de Imlá. Pero lo aborrezco, porque nunca me anuncia cosas buenas, sino solamente cosas malas.
Pero Josafat le dijo:
—No digas eso.
9 En seguida el rey de Israel llamó a un oficial, y le ordenó:
—¡Pronto, que venga Micaías, hijo de Imlá!
10 Tanto el rey de Israel como Josafat, el rey de Judá, tenían puesta su armadura y estaban sentados en sus tronos en la explanada a la entrada de Samaria, y todos los profetas caían en trance profético delante de ellos. 11 Sedequías, hijo de Quenaaná, se había hecho unos cuernos de hierro, y gritaba: «¡Así ha dicho el Señor: “Con estos cuernos atacarás a los sirios hasta exterminarlos!”»
12 Todos los profetas anunciaban lo mismo. Decían al rey: «Ataca a Ramot de Galaad y obtendrás la victoria, pues el Señor va a entregarte la ciudad.»
13 El mensajero que había ido a llamar a Micaías, le dijo a éste:
—Todos los profetas, sin excepción, han dado una respuesta favorable al rey. Así pues, te ruego que hables como todos ellos y anuncies algo favorable.
14 Micaías le contestó:
—¡Juro por el Señor que sólo diré lo que el Señor me ordene decir!
15 Luego se presentó ante el rey, y el rey le preguntó:
—Micaías, ¿debemos atacar a Ramot de Galaad o no?
Y Micaías dijo:
—Atácala, y obtendrás la victoria, pues el Señor te la va a entregar.
16 Pero el rey le respondió:
—¿Cuántas veces te he de decir que bajo juramento me declares sólo la verdad en el nombre del Señor?
17 Entonces Micaías dijo:
«He visto a todos los israelitas
desparramados por los montes,
como ovejas sin pastor.
Y el Señor ha dicho:
“Éstos no tienen dueño;
que cada uno vuelva en paz a su casa.”»
18 El rey de Israel dijo a Josafat:
—¿No te he dicho que este hombre nunca me anuncia cosas buenas, sino sólo cosas malas?
19 Micaías añadió:
—Por eso que has dicho, escucha la palabra del Señor: Vi al Señor sentado en su trono, y a todo el ejército del cielo que estaba de pie, junto a él, a su derecha y a su izquierda. 20 Entonces el Señor preguntó quién iría a incitar a Ahab para que atacara a Ramot de Galaad y cayera allí. Unos decían una cosa y otros otra. 21 Pero un espíritu se presentó delante del Señor y dijo que él lo haría. El Señor le preguntó cómo lo iba a hacer, 22 y el espíritu respondió que iba a inspirar mentiras en todos los profetas del rey. Entonces el Señor le dijo que, en efecto, conseguiría engañarlo, y que fuera a hacerlo. 23 Y ahora ya sabes que el Señor ha puesto un espíritu mentiroso en labios de todos estos profetas tuyos, y que ha determinado tu ruina.
24 Entonces Sedequías, hijo de Quenaaná, acercándose a Micaías le dio una bofetada y dijo:
—¿Por dónde se me fue el espíritu del Señor para hablarte a ti?
25 Y Micaías le respondió:
—Lo sabrás el día que andes escondiéndote de habitación en habitación.
26 Entonces el rey de Israel ordenó:
—¡Agarren a Micaías y llévenlo preso ante Amón, el gobernador de la ciudad, y ante Joás, mi hijo! 27 Díganles que yo ordeno que lo metan en la cárcel y lo tengan a ración escasa de pan y agua, hasta que yo regrese sano y salvo.
28 Todavía añadió Micaías:
«Si tú vuelves sano y salvo,
el Señor no ha hablado por medio de mí.»
29 Así pues, el rey de Israel, y Josafat, el rey de Judá, avanzaron contra Ramot de Galaad. 30 Y el rey de Israel dijo a Josafat:
—Yo voy a entrar en la batalla disfrazado, y tú te pondrás mi ropa.
Así el rey de Israel se disfrazó y entró en combate. 31 Pero el rey de Siria había ordenado a los treinta y dos capitanes de sus carros de combate que no atacaran a nadie que no fuera el rey de Israel. 32 Y cuando los capitanes de los carros vieron a Josafat, pensaron que él era el rey de Israel y lo rodearon para atacarlo. Entonces Josafat gritó pidiendo ayuda, 33 y al ver ellos que no era el rey de Israel, dejaron de perseguirlo. 34 Pero un soldado disparó su arco al azar, e hirió de muerte al rey de Israel por entre las juntas de la armadura. Entonces éste le ordenó al conductor de su carro:
—Da la vuelta y sácame del combate, porque estoy gravemente herido.
35 La batalla fue dura aquel día, y al rey se le mantuvo en pie en su carro, haciendo frente a los sirios. Pero a la tarde murió, pues la sangre de su herida corría por la plataforma del carro. 36 Cuando ya el sol se ponía, corrió la voz entre las filas del ejército: «¡Cada cual a su pueblo y a su tierra, 37 porque el rey ha muerto!»
Entonces el rey fue llevado a Samaria, y allí lo enterraron. 38 Después lavaron el carro en el estanque de Samaria, donde se bañaban las prostitutas, y los perros lamieron la sangre de Ahab, conforme a lo que el Señor había anunciado.
39 El resto de la historia de Ahab y de todo lo que hizo, y del palacio de marfil y las ciudades que construyó, está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel. 40 Murió Ahab, y después reinó en su lugar su hijo Ocozías.
Reinado de Josafat en Judá(B)
41 En el cuarto año del reinado de Ahab en Israel, Josafat, hijo de Asá, comenzó a reinar en Judá. 42 Tenía entonces treinta y cinco años, y veinticinco años reinó en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Azubá, y era hija de Silhí.
43a Josafat se condujo en todo con rectitud, como Asá, su padre. Sus hechos fueron rectos a los ojos del Señor. 43b (44) Sin embargo, los santuarios paganos, donde el pueblo ofrecía sacrificios y quemaba incienso a los ídolos, no fueron quitados.
44 (45) Josafat hizo un tratado de paz con el rey de Israel. 45 (46) El resto de su historia y de sus hazañas, y de las guerras en que tomó parte, está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá. 46 (47) Josafat fue quien desterró del país a los que aún practicaban la prostitución como un culto, los que habían quedado desde el tiempo de Asá, su padre. 47 (48) (En Edom no había entonces rey, sino sólo un intendente.)
48 (49) Josafat construyó también barcos como los de Tarsis, para traer oro de Ofir; pero no pudieron ir porque se hicieron pedazos en Esión-guéber. 49 (50) Entonces Ocozías, hijo de Ahab, dijo a Josafat que permitiera a sus marinos acompañar a los suyos en los barcos, pero Josafat no lo permitió.
50 (51) Josafat murió y fue enterrado en la Ciudad de David, su antepasado. Después reinó en su lugar su hijo Joram.
Reinado de Ocozías en Israel
51 (52) En el año diecisiete del reinado de Josafat en Judá, Ocozías, hijo de Ahab, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria, y reinó durante dos años. 52 (53) Pero sus hechos fueron malos a los ojos del Señor, pues siguió el mal camino de su padre y de su madre, y de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel. 53 (54) Además rindió culto a Baal y lo adoró, como antes había hecho su padre, provocando así la ira del Señor, el Dios de Israel.

Micaiah Prophesies Against Ahab(A)
22 For three years there was no war between Aram and Israel. 2 But in the third year Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down to see the king of Israel. 3 The king of Israel had said to his officials, “Don’t you know that Ramoth Gilead(B) belongs to us and yet we are doing nothing to retake it from the king of Aram?”
4 So he asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight(C) against Ramoth Gilead?”
Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 5 But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel(D) of the Lord.”
6 So the king of Israel brought together the prophets—about four hundred men—and asked them, “Shall I go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”
“Go,”(E) they answered, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”(F)
7 But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet(G) of the Lord here whom we can inquire(H) of?”
8 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate(I) him because he never prophesies anything good(J) about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”
“The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.
9 So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”
10 Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor(K) by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them. 11 Now Zedekiah(L) son of Kenaanah had made iron horns(M) and he declared, “This is what the Lord says: ‘With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.’”
12 All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. “Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious,” they said, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”
13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, “Look, the other prophets without exception are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably.”(N)
14 But Micaiah said, “As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what the Lord tells me.”(O)
15 When he arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or not?”
“Attack and be victorious,” he answered, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.”
16 The king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”
17 Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered(P) on the hills like sheep without a shepherd,(Q) and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’”
18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”
19 Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne(R) with all the multitudes(S) of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left. 20 And the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’
“One suggested this, and another that. 21 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’
22 “‘By what means?’ the Lord asked.
“‘I will go out and be a deceiving(T) spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said.
“‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord. ‘Go and do it.’
23 “So now the Lord has put a deceiving(U) spirit in the mouths of all these prophets(V) of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster(W) for you.”
24 Then Zedekiah(X) son of Kenaanah went up and slapped(Y) Micaiah in the face. “Which way did the spirit from[a] the Lord go when he went from me to speak(Z) to you?” he asked.
25 Micaiah replied, “You will find out on the day you go to hide(AA) in an inner room.”
26 The king of Israel then ordered, “Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son 27 and say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison(AB) and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’”
28 Micaiah declared, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken(AC) through me.” Then he added, “Mark my words, all you people!”
Ahab Killed at Ramoth Gilead(AD)
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise,(AE) but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
31 Now the king of Aram(AF) had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king(AG) of Israel.” 32 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “Surely this is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat cried out, 33 the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel and stopped pursuing him.
34 But someone drew his bow(AH) at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.” 35 All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died. 36 As the sun was setting, a cry spread through the army: “Every man to his town. Every man to his land!”(AI)
37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried him there. 38 They washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria (where the prostitutes bathed),[b] and the dogs(AJ) licked up his blood, as the word of the Lord had declared.
39 As for the other events of Ahab’s reign, including all he did, the palace he built and adorned with ivory,(AK) and the cities he fortified, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 40 Ahab rested with his ancestors. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.
Jehoshaphat King of Judah(AL)
41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. His mother’s name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi. 43 In everything he followed the ways of his father Asa(AM) and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. The high places,(AN) however, were not removed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.[c] 44 Jehoshaphat was also at peace with the king of Israel.
45 As for the other events of Jehoshaphat’s reign, the things he achieved and his military exploits, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 46 He rid the land of the rest of the male shrine prostitutes(AO) who remained there even after the reign of his father Asa. 47 There was then no king(AP) in Edom; a provincial governor ruled.
48 Now Jehoshaphat built a fleet of trading ships[d](AQ) to go to Ophir for gold, but they never set sail—they were wrecked at Ezion Geber.(AR) 49 At that time Ahaziah son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my men sail with yours,” but Jehoshaphat refused.
50 Then Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David his father. And Jehoram his son succeeded him as king.
Ahaziah King of Israel
51 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 52 He did evil(AS) in the eyes of the Lord, because he followed the ways of his father and mother and of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. 53 He served and worshiped Baal(AT) and aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, just as his father(AU) had done.
