5 Esorto gli anziani che sono fra voi io che sono anziano con loro e testimone delle sofferenze di Cristo e che sono anche partecipe della gloria che dev'essere rivelata:
2 pascete il gregge di Dio che è fra voi, sorvegliandolo non per forza, ma volentieri, non per avidità di guadagno ma di buona volontà,
3 e non come signoreggiando su coloro che vi sono affidati, ma essendo i modelli del gregge.
4 E quando apparirà il sommo pastore, riceverete la corona della gloria che non appassisce.
5 Similmente voi, giovani, siate sottomessi agli anziani. Sí, sottomettetevi tutti gli uni agli altri e rivestitevi di umiltà, perché Dio resiste ai superbi, ma dà grazia agli umili.
6 Umiliatevi dunque sotto la potente mano di Dio, affinché egli v'innalzi al tempo opportuno,
7 gettando su di lui ogni vostra sollecitudine, perché egli ha cura di voi.
8 Siate sobri, vegliate, perché il vostro avversario, il diavolo, va attorno come un leone ruggente cercando chi possa divorare.
9 Resistetegli, stando fermi nella fede, sapendo che le stesse sofferenze si compiono nella vostra fratellanza sparsa per il mondo.
10 E il Dio di ogni grazia, che vi ha chiamati alla sua eterna gloria in Cristo Gesú, dopo che avrete sofferto per un po' di tempo, vi perfezionerà egli stesso, vi renderà fermi, vi fortificherà e vi stabilirà saldamente.
11 A lui sia la gloria e il dominio per i secoli dei secoli. Amen.
12 Vi ho scritto brevemente per mezzo di Silvano, che io ritengo un fratello fedele, esortandovi e attestandovi che la vera grazia di Dio è quella in cui vi trovate.
13 La chiesa che è in Babilonia eletta come voi, vi saluta. Anche Marco, mio figlio, vi saluta.

5 我這做長老、做基督受苦的見證、同享後來所要顯現之榮耀的，勸你們中間與我同做長老的人： 2 務要牧養在你們中間神的群羊，按著神旨意照管他們，不是出於勉強，乃是出於甘心；也不是因為貪財，乃是出於樂意； 3 也不是轄制所託付你們的，乃是做群羊的榜樣。 4 到了牧長顯現的時候，你們必得那永不衰殘的榮耀冠冕。
勸年幼的當以謙卑束腰
5 你們年幼的，也要順服年長的。就是你們眾人也都要以謙卑束腰，彼此順服，因為「神阻擋驕傲的人，賜恩給謙卑的人」。 6 所以，你們要自卑，服在神大能的手下，到了時候他必叫你們升高。
須將憂慮卸給神
7 你們要將一切的憂慮卸給神，因為他顧念你們。 8 務要謹守、警醒，因為你們的仇敵魔鬼如同吼叫的獅子，遍地遊行，尋找可吞吃的人。 9 你們要用堅固的信心抵擋它，因為知道你們在世上的眾弟兄也是經歷這樣的苦難。 10 那賜諸般恩典的神，曾在基督裡召你們得享他永遠的榮耀，等你們暫受苦難之後，必要親自成全你們，堅固你們，賜力量給你們。 11 願權能歸給他，直到永永遠遠！阿們。

To the Elders and the Flock
5 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder(A) and a witness(B) of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:(C) 2 Be shepherds of God’s flock(D) that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be;(E) not pursuing dishonest gain,(F) but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over(G) those entrusted to you, but being examples(H) to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd(I) appears, you will receive the crown of glory(J) that will never fade away.(K)
5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves(L) to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility(M) toward one another, because,
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.(O) 7 Cast all your anxiety on him(P) because he cares for you.(Q)
8 Be alert and of sober mind.(R) Your enemy the devil prowls around(S) like a roaring lion(T) looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him,(U) standing firm in the faith,(V) because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.(W)
10 And the God of all grace, who called you(X) to his eternal glory(Y) in Christ, after you have suffered a little while,(Z) will himself restore you and make you strong,(AA) firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.(AB)
Final Greetings
12 With the help of Silas,[b](AC) whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly,(AD) encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.(AE)
13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark.(AF) 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love.(AG)
