^6 (A)Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, ^7 (B)casting all your anxieties on him, because ^(C)he cares for you. ^8 (D)Be sober-minded; ^(E)be watchful. Your ^(F)adversary the devil ^(G)prowls around ^(H)like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ^9 (I)Resist him, ^(J)firm in your faith, knowing that ^(K)the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

⁶ But ^(A)he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ^(B)“God opposes the proud but ^(C)gives grace to the humble.” ⁷ Submit yourselves therefore to God. ^(D)Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ^8 (E)Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. ^(F)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and ^(G)purify your hearts, ^(H)you double-minded.
