⁵ who are ^(A)protected by the power of God ^(B)through faith for ^(C)a salvation ready ^(D)to be revealed in the last time. ^6 (E)In this you greatly rejoice, even though now ^(F)for a little while, ^(G)if necessary, you have been distressed by ^(H)various ^[a]trials,

⁷ so that the ^[a](A)proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes ^(B)though tested by fire, ^(C)may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at ^(D)the revelation of Jesus Christ;

⁹ obtaining as ^(A)the outcome of your faith, the salvation of ^[a]your souls.

²² strengthening the souls of ^(A)the disciples, encouraging them to continue in ^(B)the faith, and saying, “^(C)It is through many tribulations that we must enter the kingdom of God.”

Share the Sufferings of Christ

^12 (A)Beloved, do not be surprised at the ^(B)fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though something strange were happening to you;

⁷ It is for discipline that you endure; ^(C)God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, ^(D)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

^2 (A)Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter ^(B)various ^[a]trials, ³ knowing that ^(C)the testing of your ^(D)faith produces ^[b](E)endurance.
