^5 (A)who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

^6 (B)In this you greatly rejoice, though now ^(C)for a little while, if need be, ^(D)you have been ^[a]grieved by various trials,

⁷ that ^(A)the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though ^(B)it is tested by fire, ^(C)may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

⁹ receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, ^(A)exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ^(B)“We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”

Suffering for God’s Glory

¹² Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;

^7 (B)If^[a] you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what ^(C)son is there whom a father does not chasten? ⁸ But if you are without chastening, ^(D)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

Profiting from Trials

² My brethren, ^(A)count it all joy ^(B)when you fall into various trials, ^3 (C)knowing that the testing of your faith produces ^[a]patience.

Loving God Under Trials

^12 (A)Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive ^(B)the crown of life ^(C)which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Christ’s Example to Be Followed

4 Therefore, since Christ suffered ^[a]for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ² that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, ^(A)but for the will of God.
