^11 [a]seeking to know what person or time ^(A)the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He ^(B)predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories ^[b]to follow.

²¹ who through Him are ^(A)believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and ^(B)gave Him glory, so that your faith and ^(C)hope are in God.

Christ Is Our Example

²¹ For ^(A)you have been called for this purpose, ^(B)since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you ^(C)an example for you to follow in His steps, ²² who ^(D)committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; ^23 [a]and while being ^(E)reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; ²⁴ and He Himself ^[b](F)bore our sins in His body on the ^[c](G)cross, so that we ^(H)might die to ^[d]sin and live to righteousness; for ^(I)by His ^[e]wounds you were ^(J)healed. ²⁵ For you were ^(K)continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the ^(L)Shepherd and ^[f]Guardian of your souls.

4 Therefore, since ^(A)Christ has ^[a]suffered in the flesh, ^(B)arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because ^(C)he who has ^[b]suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

Share the Sufferings of Christ

^12 (A)Beloved, do not be surprised at the ^(B)fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; ¹³ but to the degree that you ^(C)share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the ^(D)revelation of His glory ^(E)you may rejoice with exultation.

¹⁶ but if anyone suffers as a ^(A)Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to ^(B)glorify God in this name.
