⁶ For this reason ^(A)the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but ^(B)live according to God in the spirit.

² For ^(A)the law of ^(B)the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from ^(C)the law of sin and death.

¹⁹ by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,

⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. ¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of ^(A)Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, ^(B)He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies ^[a]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

²⁵ Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when ^(A)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For ^(B)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have ^(C)life in Himself,

³ For ^(A)we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. ⁴ But when ^(B)the kindness and the love of ^(C)God our Savior toward man appeared, ^5 (D)not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through ^(E)the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ^6 (F)whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, ⁷ that having been justified by His grace ^(G)we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

^3 (A)among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in ^(B)the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and ^(C)were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

⁴ But God, ^(D)who is rich in mercy, because of His ^(E)great love with which He loved us, ^5 (F)even when we were dead in trespasses, ^(G)made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

^25 (A)If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Christ’s Example to Be Followed

4 Therefore, since Christ suffered ^[a]for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ² that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, ^(A)but for the will of God.
