Keep Fervent in Your Love

4 Therefore, since ^(A)Christ has ^[a]suffered in the flesh, ^(B)arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because ^(C)the one who has ^[b]suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ^2 (D)so as to live ^(E)the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the ^(F)will of God. ³ For ^(G)the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, ^[c](H)having pursued a course of indecent behavior, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries.

⁸ for ^(A)you were once ^(B)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as ^(C)children of light ⁹ (for ^(D)the fruit of the light consists in all ^(E)goodness, righteousness, and truth), ^10 [a](F)as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. ^11 (G)Do not participate in the useless ^(H)deeds of ^(I)darkness, but instead even ^(J)expose them; ¹² for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

7 Therefore, having these promises, ^(A)beloved, ^(B)let’s cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
