Suffering for Doing Right

⁸ Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind.^(A)

¹⁰ love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.

³¹ Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice.^{(A) 32} Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.^[a](B) 5 ¹ Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children,^{(C) 2} and walk in love, as Christ loved us^[b] and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.^(D)

²² Now that you have purified your souls^[a] by your obedience to the truth^[b] so that you have genuine mutual affection, love one another deeply from the heart.^[c](A)

⁸ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about^[a] these things. ⁹ As for the things that you have learned and received and heard and noticed in me, do them, and the God of peace will be with you.^(A)

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.^(A)

² with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,^(A)

⁹ “Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another;^(A)

¹² Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.^(A)

³³ Should you not have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I had mercy on you?’
