¹⁷ For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

^14 (A)But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. ^(B)“And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

¹⁹ Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God ^(A)commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

³⁹ He went a little farther and fell on His face, and ^(A)prayed, saying, ^(B)“O My Father, if it is possible, ^(C)let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, ^(D)not as I will, but as You will.”

²⁰ For ^(A)what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

¹⁴ So when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, ^(A)“The will of the Lord be done.”

⁴² Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, ^[a]if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a ^[a]busybody in other people’s matters.

¹⁵ For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—
