Abram och Lot går skilda vägar
13 Abram begav sig alltså från Egypten med sin hustru och allt han ägde till Negev, och Lot följde med honom. 2 Abram var nu mycket rik och ägde boskap, silver och guld. 3 Han fortsatte sedan från lägerplats till lägerplats, från Negev mot Betel, till den plats där han förut hade slagit läger mellan Betel och Aj, 4 och där han byggt ett altare. Där åkallade han nu Herren igen.
5 Också Lot, som förflyttade sig tillsammans med Abram, hade får och nötboskap och tält. 6 Landet kunde inte försörja dem båda, för de hade så stora egendomar att de inte kunde stanna på samma plats tillsammans. 7 Stridigheter uppstod mellan Abrams och Lots herdar. (Kanaanéerna och perisséerna bodde i landet vid den tiden.) 8 Då sa Abram till Lot: ”Det får inte råda osämja mellan dig och mig och mellan våra herdar. Vi är ju nära släktingar. 9 Är inte hela landet öppet för dig? Skilj dig ifrån mig! Går du åt vänster så går jag åt höger. Går du åt höger så går jag åt vänster.”
10 Lot såg ut över Jordanslätten, som var väl bevattnad överallt. Hela området ända bort till Soar var som Herrens trädgård eller som Egyptens land. Detta var innan Herren hade förstört Sodom och Gomorra. 11 Därför valde Lot hela Jordanslätten. Han gick österut, och på så sätt skildes de från varandra. 12 Abram stannade nämligen i Kanaans land, medan Lot bodde bland städerna på slätten och slog läger på en plats nära staden Sodom. 13 Människorna i Sodom var onda och syndade mycket mot Herren.
14 Efter det att Lot gått därifrån, sa Herren till Abram: ”Se dig omkring, från din plats åt norr och söder, öster och väster. 15 Hela detta land som du kan se ska jag ge till dig och dina ättlingar för all framtid. 16 Jag ska ge dig många ättlingar, ja, som dammkornen som inte kan räknas ska inte heller dina ättlingar kunna räknas. 17 Vandra nu omkring i landet, ty jag ska ge dig det.” 18 Då flyttade Abram sitt tält till Mamres ekar nära Hebron och byggde där ett altare till Herren.

13 And Avram went up out of Mitzrayim, he, and his isha, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negev.
2 And Avram was very rich in cattle, in kesef, and in zahav.
3 And he went on his journeys from the Negev even to Beit-El, unto the makom where his ohel had been at the beginning, between Beit-El and Ai;
4 Unto the makom of the Mizbe’ach, which he had built there at the first; and there Avram called on the Shem of Hashem.
5 And Lot also, which walked with Avram, had tzon, and herds, and ohalim.
6 And ha’aretz was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together; for their rechush was rav, so that they could not dwell together.
7 And there was a riv between the ro’im of the herd of Avram and the ro’im of the herd of Lot; and the Kena’ani and the Perizzi dwelt then in ha’aretz.
8 And Avram said unto Lot, Let there be no merivah now between me and thee, and between my ro’im and thy ro’im; for we are achim.
9 Is not the kol ha’aretz before thee? Separate thyself, now, from me; if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Yarden, that it was well watered everywhere, before Hashem destroyed Sodom and Amora, even as the Gan Hashem, like Eretz Mitzrayim, as you go to Tzoar.
11 Then Lot chose for him all the plain of Yarden; and Lot journeyed mikedem (east); and they separated themselves the one from his brother.
12 Avram dwelled in Eretz Kena’an, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his ohel toward Sodom.
13 But the men of Sodom were ra’im and chatta’im before Hashem exceedingly.
14 And Hashem said unto Avram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the makom where thou art northward, and southward and eastward, and westward:
15 For kol ha’aretz which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy zera ad olam (forever).
16 And I will make thy zera as the dust of ha’aretz; so that if a man can number the aphar of ha’aretz, then shall thy zera also be numbered.
17 Arise, walk through ha’aretz in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
18 Then Avram moved his ohel, and came and dwelt in Elonei Mamre, which is in Chevron, and built there a Mizbe’ach unto Hashem.

13 Dall'Egitto Abram ritornò nel Negheb con la moglie e tutti i suoi averi; Lot era con lui. 2 Abram era molto ricco in bestiame, argento e oro. 3 Poi di accampamento in accampamento egli dal Negheb si portò fino a Betel, fino al luogo dove era stata gia prima la sua tenda, tra Betel e Ai, 4 al luogo dell'altare, che aveva là costruito prima: lì Abram invocò il nome del Signore. 5 Ma anche Lot, che andava con Abram, aveva greggi e armenti e tende. 6 Il territorio non consentiva che abitassero insieme, perché avevano beni troppo grandi e non potevano abitare insieme. 7 Per questo sorse una lite tra i mandriani di Abram e i mandriani di Lot, mentre i Cananei e i Perizziti abitavano allora nel paese. 8 Abram disse a Lot: «Non vi sia discordia tra me e te, tra i miei mandriani e i tuoi, perché noi siamo fratelli. 9 Non sta forse davanti a te tutto il paese? Sepàrati da me. Se tu vai a sinistra, io antra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai a destra, io andrò a sinistra».
10 Allora Lot alzò gli occhi e vide che tutta la valle del Giordano era un luogo irrigato da ogni parte - prima che il Signore distruggesse Sòdoma e Gomorra -; era come il giardino del Signore, come il paese d'Egitto, fino ai pressi di Zoar. 11 Lot scelse per sé tutta la valle del Giordano e trasportò le tende verso oriente. Così si separarono l'uno dall'altro: 12 Abram si stabilì nel paese di Canaan e Lot si stabilì nelle città della valle e piantò le tende vicino a Sòdoma. 13 Ora gli uomini di Sòdoma erano perversi e peccavano molto contro il Signore.
14 Allora il Signore disse ad Abram, dopo che Lot si era separato da lui: «Alza gli occhi e dal luogo dove tu stai spingi lo sguardo verso il settentrione e il mezzogiorno, verso l'oriente e l'occidente. 15 Tutto il paese che tu vedi, io lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza per sempre. 16 Renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra: se uno può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi discendenti. 17 Alzati, percorri il paese in lungo e in largo, perché io lo darò a te». 18 Poi Abram si spostò con le sue tende e andò a stabilirsi alle Querce di Mamre, che sono ad Ebron, e vi costruì un altare al Signore.
