Jakob kehrt in das verheißene Land zurück
31 Er hörte aber die Reden der Söhne Labans, die sagten: Jakob hat alles genommen, was unserem Vater gehört; und mit dem, was unserem Vater gehört, hat er sich all diesen Reichtum verschafft!
2 Und Jakob sah, dass Labans Angesicht ihm gegenüber nicht mehr war wie früher.
3 Da sprach der Herr zu Jakob: Kehre zurück in das Land deiner Väter und zu deiner Verwandtschaft, und ich will mit dir sein!
4 Und Jakob ließ Rahel und Lea zu seiner Herde aufs Feld hinausrufen
5 und sprach zu ihnen: Ich sehe, dass das Angesicht eures Vaters mir gegenüber nicht mehr ist wie früher; aber der Gott meines Vaters ist mit mir gewesen.
6 Und ihr wisst, wie ich eurem Vater gedient habe mit meiner ganzen Kraft.
7 Euer Vater aber hat mich betrogen und mir meinen Lohn zehnmal verändert; doch hat es Gott nicht zugelassen, dass er mir schaden durfte.
8 Wenn er sagte: Die Gesprenkelten sollen dein Lohn sein!, so warf die ganze Herde Gesprenkelte; sagte er aber: Die Gestreiften sollen dein Lohn sein!, so warf die ganze Herde Gestreifte.
9 So hat Gott eurem Vater die Herde genommen und sie mir gegeben.
10 Es geschah nämlich zu der Zeit, wo die Tiere brünstig werden, dass ich meine Augen aufhob und im Traum schaute: Und siehe, die Böcke, die die Herde besprangen, waren gestreift, gesprenkelt und scheckig.
11 Und der Engel Gottes sprach zu mir im Traum: Jakob! Und ich antwortete: Hier bin ich!
12 Er aber sprach: Hebe doch deine Augen auf und sieh: Alle Böcke, welche die Schafe bespringen, sind gestreift, gesprenkelt und scheckig; denn ich habe alles gesehen, was dir Laban antut.
13 Ich bin der Gott von Bethel, wo du den Gedenkstein gesalbt und mir ein Gelübde abgelegt hast. Nun mache dich auf, geh hinaus aus diesem Land und kehre zurück in das Land deiner Geburt!
14 Da antworteten Rahel und Lea und sprachen zu ihm: Haben wir auch noch ein Teil oder Erbe im Haus unseres Vaters?
15 Werden wir nicht von ihm angesehen, als wären wir fremd? Er hat uns ja verkauft und sogar unser Geld ganz verzehrt!
16 Darum gehört auch all der Reichtum, den Gott unserem Vater genommen hat, uns und unseren Kindern. So tue du nun alles, was Gott dir gesagt hat!
17 Da machte sich Jakob auf und lud seine Kinder und seine Frauen auf Kamele,
18 und er führte all sein Vieh weg und seine ganze Habe, die er erworben hatte, seine eigene Herde, die er in Paddan-Aram erworben hatte, um zu seinem Vater Isaak ins Land Kanaan zu ziehen.
19 Laban aber war weggegangen, um seine Schafe zu scheren; und Rahel stahl die Teraphim, die ihrem Vater gehörten.[a]
20 Jakob aber täuschte Laban, den Aramäer, indem er ihm nicht mitteilte, dass er fliehen wollte.
21 Und er machte sich auf, entfloh mit allem, was er hatte, und setzte über den Euphrat und wandte sein Angesicht dem Bergland von Gilead zu.
Labans Streit mit Jakob
22 Am dritten Tag aber wurde Laban gemeldet, dass Jakob geflohen sei.
23 Da nahm er seine Brüder mit sich und jagte ihm nach, sieben Tagereisen weit, und er holte ihn ein auf dem Bergland von Gilead.
24 Aber Gott kam nachts im Traum zu Laban, dem Aramäer, und sprach zu ihm: Hüte dich davor, mit Jakob anders als freundlich zu reden!
25 Als nun Laban den Jakob einholte, hatte Jakob sein Zelt auf dem Bergland aufgeschlagen; da schlug auch Laban mit seinen Brüdern sein Zelt auf dem Bergland von Gilead auf.
26 Und Laban sprach zu Jakob: Was hast du getan, dass du mich getäuscht und meine Töchter entführt hast, als wären sie Kriegsgefangene?
27 Warum bist du heimlich geflohen und hast mich hintergangen und es mir nicht mitgeteilt? Ich hätte dich mit Freuden begleitet, mit Gesang, mit Tamburinen und Lautenspiel!
28 Du hast mich nicht einmal meine Enkel und Töchter küssen lassen; da hast du töricht gehandelt!
29 Es stünde in meiner Macht, euch Schlimmes anzutun; aber der Gott eures Vaters hat gestern zu mir gesagt: Hüte dich, dass du mit Jakob anders als freundlich redest!
30 Und nun bist du ja gegangen, weil du dich so sehr sehntest nach dem Haus deines Vaters; warum hast du aber meine Götter gestohlen?
31 Da antwortete Jakob und sprach zu Laban: Ich fürchtete mich; denn ich sagte mir, du könntest mir deine Töchter entreißen!
32 Was aber deine Götter betrifft — derjenige, bei dem du sie findest, soll nicht am Leben bleiben! In Gegenwart unserer Brüder sieh dir alles an, was bei mir ist, und nimm es dir! Jakob wusste nämlich nicht, dass Rahel sie gestohlen hatte.
33 Da ging Laban in Jakobs Zelt und in Leas Zelt und in das Zelt der beiden Mägde, fand aber nichts. Und von Leas Zelt ging er in Rahels Zelt.
34 Rahel aber hatte die Teraphim genommen und sie in den Kamelsattel gelegt und sich daraufgesetzt. Und Laban durchsuchte das ganze Zelt, fand sie aber nicht.
35 Da sprach sie zu ihrem Vater: Mein Herr möge nicht so grimmig dreinsehen, weil ich vor dir nicht aufstehen kann; es geht mir eben nach der Weise der Frauen! Er aber suchte eifrig und fand die Teraphim nicht.
36 Da wurde Jakob zornig und stritt mit Laban; und Jakob antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Was habe ich verbrochen, was habe ich gesündigt, dass du mir so hitzig nachgejagt bist?
37 Da du nun allen meinen Hausrat durchstöbert hast, was hast du von all deinem Hausrat gefunden? Lege es hier vor meine und deine Brüder, damit sie schlichten zwischen uns!
38 Diese 20 Jahre bin ich bei dir gewesen; deine Mutterschafe und Ziegen wurden nie ihrer Jungen beraubt, und die Widder deiner Herde habe ich nicht gegessen!
39 Was zerrissen wurde, habe ich dir nicht gebracht; ich musste es ersetzen, du hast es von meiner Hand gefordert, ob es bei Tag oder bei Nacht geraubt war.
40 Es ging mir so: Am Tag verschmachtete ich vor Hitze und in der Nacht vor Frost, und der Schlaf floh von meinen Augen.
41 Diese 20 Jahre lang habe ich dir in deinem Haus gedient, 14 Jahre um deine beiden Töchter und sechs Jahre um deine Schafe, und du hast mir meinen Lohn zehnmal verändert!
42 Wenn nicht der Gott meines Vaters für mich gewesen wäre, der Gott Abrahams und der, den Isaak fürchtet, du hättest mich gewiss jetzt leer ziehen lassen; aber Gott hat mein Elend und die Arbeit meiner Hände angesehen und hat gestern Nacht Recht gesprochen!
43 Laban antwortete und sprach zu Jakob: Die Töchter sind meine Töchter und die Kinder sind meine Kinder und die Herden sind meine Herden, und alles, was du siehst, gehört mir! Doch was kann ich heute diesen meinen Töchtern tun oder ihren Kindern, die sie geboren haben?
44 Komm, wir wollen nun einen Bund machen, ich und du; der soll ein Zeuge sein zwischen mir und dir!
Jakobs Bund mit Laban
45 Da nahm Jakob einen Stein und stellte ihn als Denkmal auf.
46 Und Jakob sprach zu seinen Brüdern: Sammelt Steine! Da nahmen sie Steine und errichteten einen Steinhaufen und aßen dort auf dem Steinhaufen.
47 Und Laban nannte ihn Jegar-Sahaduta; Jakob aber nannte ihn Gal-Ed[b].
48 Und Laban sprach: Dieser Steinhaufen sei heute Zeuge zwischen mir und dir! Darum wird er Gal-Ed genannt
49 und Mizpa[c], weil er sprach: Der Herr wache zwischen mir und dir, wenn wir einander nicht mehr sehen!
50 Wenn du meine Töchter schlecht behandelst und wenn du zu meinen Töchtern hinzu andere Frauen nimmst und kein Mensch dazwischentritt, siehe, so ist doch Gott Zeuge zwischen mir und dir!
51 Weiter sprach Laban zu Jakob: Siehe, dieser Steinhaufen und dieses Denkmal, das ich errichtet habe zwischen mir und dir,
52 dieser Steinhaufen sei Zeuge und dieses Denkmal ein Zeugnis dafür, dass ich niemals über diesen Steinhaufen hinaus zu dir kommen will und dass auch du niemals in böser Absicht über diesen Steinhaufen oder über dieses Denkmal hinaus zu mir kommen sollst.
53 Der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Nahors sei Richter zwischen uns, der Gott ihres Vaters! Jakob aber schwor bei dem, den sein Vater Isaak fürchtete.
54 Und Jakob brachte ein Opfer dar auf dem Berg und lud seine Brüder[d] ein zu essen; und sie aßen und übernachteten auf dem Berg.

Jacob huye de Labán
31 Pero Jacob se enteró de que los hijos de Labán andaban diciendo: «Jacob se ha ido apoderando de todo lo que pertenecía a nuestro padre y se ha enriquecido a costa suya». 2 También notó que Labán ya no lo trataba como antes.
3 Entonces el Señor dijo a Jacob: «Vuélvete a la tierra de tus padres, donde están tus parientes, que yo estaré contigo».
4 Jacob mandó llamar a Raquel y a Lea al campo donde estaba el rebaño 5 y les dijo:
—Me he dado cuenta de que su padre ya no me trata como antes. ¡Pero el Dios de mi padre ha estado conmigo! 6 Ustedes saben muy bien que yo he trabajado para su padre Labán con todas mis fuerzas. 7 No obstante, él me ha engañado y me ha cambiado el salario muchas veces.[a] Pero Dios no le ha permitido causarme ningún daño. 8 Si él acordaba conmigo: “Los animales manchados serán tu salario”, todas las hembras tenían crías manchadas; y si él acordaba: “Los animales rayados serán tu salario”, todas las hembras tenían crías rayadas. 9 Así Dios le ha quitado el ganado al padre de ustedes y me lo ha dado a mí.
10 »En cierta ocasión, durante la época en que los animales estaban en celo, tuve un sueño. En ese sueño veía que los chivos que cubrían a las cabras eran rayados, manchados o moteados. 11 En ese mismo sueño, el ángel de Dios me llamó: “¡Jacob!”. Y yo le respondí: “Aquí estoy”. 12 Entonces él me dijo: “Fíjate bien y te darás cuenta de que todos los chivos que cubren a las cabras son rayados, manchados o moteados. Yo he visto todo lo que te ha hecho Labán. 13 Yo soy el Dios de Betel, donde ungiste una piedra como monumento y me hiciste una promesa. Vete ahora de esta tierra y vuelve a la tierra de tus parientes”».
14 Raquel y Lea respondieron:
—Ya no tenemos ninguna parte ni herencia en la casa de nuestro padre. 15 Al contrario, nos ha tratado como si fuéramos extranjeras. Nos ha vendido y se ha gastado todo lo que recibió por nosotras. 16 Lo cierto es que toda la riqueza que Dios le ha quitado a nuestro padre es nuestra y de nuestros hijos. Por eso, haz ahora todo lo que Dios te ha ordenado.
17 Entonces Jacob se preparó y montó a sus hijos y a sus esposas en los camellos, 18 puso en marcha todo su ganado, junto con todos los bienes que había acumulado en Padán Aram,[b] y se dirigió hacia la tierra de Canaán, donde vivía su padre Isaac.
19 Mientras Labán estaba ausente esquilando sus ovejas, Raquel aprovechó el momento para robarse los ídolos familiares.[c] 20 Fue así como Jacob engañó a Labán el arameo y huyó sin decirle nada. 21 Jacob se escapó con todo lo que tenía. Una vez que cruzó el río Éufrates, se encaminó hacia la región montañosa de Galaad.
Labán persigue a Jacob
22 Al tercer día informaron a Labán que Jacob se había escapado. 23 Entonces Labán reunió a sus parientes y lo persiguió durante siete días hasta que lo alcanzó en los montes de Galaad. 24 Pero esa misma noche Dios se apareció en un sueño a Labán, el arameo, y le dijo: «¡Cuidado con amenazar a Jacob!».
25 Labán alcanzó a Jacob en los montes de Galaad, donde este había acampado. También Labán acampó allí junto con sus parientes 26 y reclamó a Jacob:
—¿Qué has hecho? ¡Me has engañado y te has llevado a mis hijas como si fueran prisioneras de guerra! 27 ¿Por qué has huido en secreto, con engaños y sin decirme nada? Yo te habría despedido con alegría y cantos al son de panderos y de arpa. 28 Ni siquiera me dejaste besar a mis hijas y a mis nietos. ¡Te has comportado como un necio! 29 Mi poder es más que suficiente para hacerles daño, pero anoche el Dios de tu padre me habló y me dijo: “¡Cuidado con amenazar a Jacob!”. 30 Ahora bien, entiendo que hayas querido irte porque añoras la casa de tu padre, pero ¿por qué me robaste mis dioses?
31 Jacob respondió:
—La verdad es que tuve mucho miedo, porque pensé que podrías quitarme a tus hijas por la fuerza. 32 Pero si encuentras tus dioses en poder de alguno de los que están aquí, tal persona no quedará con vida. Pongo a nuestros parientes como testigos: busca lo que sea tuyo y llévatelo. Pero Jacob no sabía que Raquel se había robado los ídolos de Labán.
33 Entonces Labán entró en la tienda de campaña de Jacob, luego en la de Lea y en la de las dos criadas, pero no encontró lo que buscaba. Cuando salió de la tienda de Lea, entró en la de Raquel. 34 Pero Raquel, luego de tomar los ídolos familiares y esconderlos bajo la montura del camello, se sentó sobre ellos. Labán los buscó por toda la tienda, pero no los encontró. 35 Entonces Raquel dijo a su padre:
—Por favor, no se enoje, mi señor, si no puedo levantarme ante usted, pero es que estoy en mi período de menstruación.
Labán buscó los ídolos familiares, pero no logró encontrarlos.
36 Entonces Jacob se enojó con Labán e indignado reclamó:
—¿Qué crimen o pecado he cometido para que me acoses de esta manera? 37 Ya has registrado todas mis cosas, ¿y acaso has encontrado algo que te pertenezca? Si algo has encontrado, ponlo aquí, frente a nuestros parientes, y que ellos determinen quién de los dos tiene la razón.
38 Durante los veinte años que estuve contigo, nunca abortaron tus ovejas ni tus cabras, ni jamás me comí un carnero de tus rebaños. 39 Nunca te traje un animal despedazado por las fieras, ya que yo mismo me hacía cargo de esa pérdida. Además, lo que se robaban de día o de noche, tú me lo reclamabas. 40 De día me consumía el calor, de noche me moría de frío y ni dormir podía. 41 De los veinte años que estuve en tu casa, catorce te serví por tus dos hijas y seis, por tu ganado, y cambiaste mi salario diez veces. 42 Si no hubiera estado conmigo el Dios de mi padre, el Dios de Abraham y el Temor de Isaac, seguramente me habrías despedido con las manos vacías. Pero Dios vio mi aflicción y el trabajo de mis manos, y entonces anoche me hizo justicia.
43 Labán respondió a Jacob:
—Estas mujeres son mis hijas y estos muchachos son mis nietos; mías también son las ovejas; todo lo que ves me pertenece. Pero ¿qué podría hacerles ahora a mis hijas y a mis nietos? 44 Hagamos un pacto tú y yo y que ese pacto nos sirva como testimonio.
45 Entonces Jacob tomó una piedra, la erigió como un monumento 46 y dijo a sus parientes:
—¡Junten piedras!
Ellos juntaron piedras, las amontonaron y comieron allí, junto al montón de piedras. 47 A ese lugar Labán le puso por nombre Yegar Saduta, mientras que Jacob lo llamó Galaad.[d]
48 —Este montón de piedras —declaró Labán—, nos servirá de testimonio.
Por eso se le llamó Galaad a ese lugar 49 y también se le llamó Mizpa,[e] porque Labán juró:
—Que el Señor nos vigile cuando ya estemos lejos el uno del otro. 50 Si tú maltratas a mis hijas o tomas otras mujeres que no sean ellas, recuerda que Dios es nuestro testigo, aunque no haya ningún otro testigo entre nosotros.
51 Mira este montón de piedras y el monumento que he levantado entre nosotros —señaló Labán—. 52 Ambos serán testigos de que ni tú ni yo cruzaremos esta línea con el propósito de hacernos daño. 53 ¡Que el Dios de Abraham y el Dios de Najor, el Dios de sus padres, juzgue entre nosotros!
Entonces Jacob juró por el Dios conocido como el Temor de Isaac, su padre. 54 Luego ofreció un sacrificio en el monte e invitó a sus parientes a participar en la comida. Después de que todos comieron, pasaron la noche allí.
55 A la madrugada del día siguiente Labán se levantó, besó y bendijo a sus nietos y a sus hijas, y regresó a su casa.

Jacob Flees From Laban
31 Jacob heard that Laban’s sons(A) were saying, “Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”(B) 2 And Jacob noticed that Laban’s attitude toward him was not what it had been.(C)
3 Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Go back(D) to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”(E)
4 So Jacob sent word to Rachel and Leah to come out to the fields where his flocks were. 5 He said to them, “I see that your father’s(F) attitude toward me is not what it was before,(G) but the God of my father has been with me.(H) 6 You know that I’ve worked for your father with all my strength,(I) 7 yet your father has cheated(J) me by changing my wages(K) ten times.(L) However, God has not allowed him to harm me.(M) 8 If he said, ‘The speckled ones will be your wages,’ then all the flocks gave birth to speckled young; and if he said, ‘The streaked ones will be your wages,’(N) then all the flocks bore streaked young. 9 So God has taken away your father’s livestock(O) and has given them to me.(P)
10 “In breeding season I once had a dream(Q) in which I looked up and saw that the male goats mating with the flock were streaked, speckled or spotted. 11 The angel of God(R) said to me in the dream,(S) ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’(T) 12 And he said, ‘Look up and see that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled or spotted,(U) for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.(V) 13 I am the God of Bethel,(W) where you anointed a pillar(X) and where you made a vow(Y) to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.(Z)’”
14 Then Rachel and Leah replied, “Do we still have any share(AA) in the inheritance of our father’s estate? 15 Does he not regard us as foreigners?(AB) Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us.(AC) 16 Surely all the wealth that God took away from our father belongs to us and our children.(AD) So do whatever God has told you.”
17 Then Jacob put his children and his wives(AE) on camels,(AF) 18 and he drove all his livestock ahead of him, along with all the goods he had accumulated(AG) in Paddan Aram,[a](AH) to go to his father Isaac(AI) in the land of Canaan.(AJ)
19 When Laban had gone to shear his sheep,(AK) Rachel stole her father’s household gods.(AL) 20 Moreover, Jacob deceived(AM) Laban the Aramean(AN) by not telling him he was running away.(AO) 21 So he fled(AP) with all he had, crossed the Euphrates River,(AQ) and headed for the hill country of Gilead.(AR)
Laban Pursues Jacob
22 On the third day(AS) Laban was told that Jacob had fled.(AT) 23 Taking his relatives(AU) with him(AV), he pursued Jacob for seven days and caught up with him in the hill country of Gilead.(AW) 24 Then God came to Laban the Aramean(AX) in a dream at night and said to him,(AY) “Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”(AZ)
25 Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country of Gilead(BA) when Laban overtook him, and Laban and his relatives camped there too. 26 Then Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done?(BB) You’ve deceived me,(BC) and you’ve carried off my daughters like captives in war.(BD) 27 Why did you run off secretly and deceive me? Why didn’t you tell me,(BE) so I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of timbrels(BF) and harps?(BG) 28 You didn’t even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters goodbye.(BH) You have done a foolish thing. 29 I have the power to harm you;(BI) but last night the God of your father(BJ) said to me, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’(BK) 30 Now you have gone off because you longed to return to your father’s household.(BL) But why did you steal(BM) my gods?(BN)”
31 Jacob answered Laban, “I was afraid, because I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force.(BO) 32 But if you find anyone who has your gods, that person shall not live.(BP) In the presence of our relatives, see for yourself whether there is anything of yours here with me; and if so, take it.” Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the gods.(BQ)
33 So Laban went into Jacob’s tent and into Leah’s tent(BR) and into the tent of the two female servants,(BS) but he found nothing.(BT) After he came out of Leah’s tent, he entered Rachel’s tent. 34 Now Rachel had taken the household gods(BU) and put them inside her camel’s saddle(BV) and was sitting on them. Laban searched(BW) through everything in the tent but found nothing.
35 Rachel said to her father, “Don’t be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence;(BX) I’m having my period.(BY)” So he searched but could not find the household gods.(BZ)
36 Jacob was angry and took Laban to task. “What is my crime?” he asked Laban. “How have I wronged(CA) you that you hunt me down?(CB) 37 Now that you have searched through all my goods, what have you found that belongs to your household?(CC) Put it here in front of your relatives(CD) and mine, and let them judge between the two of us.(CE)
38 “I have been with you for twenty years now.(CF) Your sheep and goats have not miscarried,(CG) nor have I eaten rams from your flocks. 39 I did not bring you animals torn by wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for whatever was stolen(CH) by day or night.(CI) 40 This was my situation: The heat consumed me in the daytime and the cold at night, and sleep fled from my eyes.(CJ) 41 It was like this for the twenty years(CK) I was in your household. I worked for you fourteen years for your two daughters(CL) and six years for your flocks,(CM) and you changed my wages(CN) ten times.(CO) 42 If the God of my father,(CP) the God of Abraham(CQ) and the Fear of Isaac,(CR) had not been with me,(CS) you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands,(CT) and last night he rebuked you.(CU)”
43 Laban answered Jacob, “The women are my daughters, the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks.(CV) All you see is mine. Yet what can I do today about these daughters of mine, or about the children they have borne? 44 Come now, let’s make a covenant,(CW) you and I, and let it serve as a witness between us.”(CX)
45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.(CY) 46 He said to his relatives, “Gather some stones.” So they took stones and piled them in a heap,(CZ) and they ate there by the heap. 47 Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, and Jacob called it Galeed.[b](DA)
48 Laban said, “This heap(DB) is a witness between you and me today.”(DC) That is why it was called Galeed. 49 It was also called Mizpah,[c](DD) because he said, “May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other. 50 If you mistreat(DE) my daughters or if you take any wives besides my daughters, even though no one is with us, remember that God is a witness(DF) between you and me.”(DG)
51 Laban also said to Jacob, “Here is this heap,(DH) and here is this pillar(DI) I have set up between you and me. 52 This heap is a witness, and this pillar is a witness,(DJ) that I will not go past this heap to your side to harm you and that you will not go past this heap(DK) and pillar to my side to harm me.(DL) 53 May the God of Abraham(DM) and the God of Nahor,(DN) the God of their father, judge between us.”(DO)
So Jacob took an oath(DP) in the name of the Fear of his father Isaac.(DQ) 54 He offered a sacrifice(DR) there in the hill country and invited his relatives to a meal.(DS) After they had eaten, they spent the night there.
55 Early the next morning Laban kissed his grandchildren and his daughters(DT) and blessed(DU) them. Then he left and returned home.[d](DV)
