10 Dies ist das Geschlecht der Kinder Noahs: Sem, Ham, Japheth. Und sie zeugten Kinder nach der Sintflut.

Die Kinder Japheths sind diese: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Thubal, Mesech und Thiras.

Aber die Kinder von Gomer sind diese: Askenas, Riphath und Thorgama.

Die Kinder von Javan sind diese: Elisa, Tharsis, die Chittiter und die Dodaniter.

Von diesen sind ausgebreitet die Inseln der Heiden in ihren Ländern, jegliche nach ihren Sprachen, Geschlechtern und Leuten.

Die Kinder von Ham sind diese: Chus, Mizraim, Put und Kanaan.

Aber die Kinder von Chus sind diese: Seba, Hevila, Sabtha, Ragma und Sabthecha. Aber die Kinder von Ragma sind diese: Saba und Dedan.

Chus aber zeugte den Nimrod. Der fing an ein gewaltiger Herr zu sein auf Erden,

und war ein gewaltiger Jäger vor dem HERRN. Daher spricht man: Das ist ein gewaltiger Jäger vor dem HERRN wie Nimrod.

10 Und der Anfang seines Reiches war Babel, Erech, Akkad und Chalne im Lande Sinear.

11 Von dem Land ist er gekommen nach Assur und baute Ninive und Rehoboth-Ir und Kalah,

12 dazu Resen zwischen Ninive und Kalah. Dies ist die große Stadt.

13 Mizraim zeugte die Luditer, die Anamiter, die Lehabiter, die Naphthuhiter,

14 die Pathrusiter und die Kasluhiter (von dannen sind gekommen die Philister) und die Kaphthoriter.

15 Kanaan aber zeugte Sidon, seinen ersten Sohn, und Heth,

16 den Jebusiter, den Amoriter, den Girgasiter,

17 den Heviter, den Arkiter, den Siniter,

18 den Arvaditer, den Zemariter und den Hamathiter. Daher sind ausgebreitet die Geschlechter der Kanaaniter.

19 Und ihre Grenzen waren von Sidon an durch Gerar bis gen Gaza, bis man kommt gen Sodom, Gomorra, Adama, Zeboim und bis gen Lasa.

20 Das sind die Kinder Hams in ihren Geschlechtern, Sprachen und Leuten.

21 Sem aber, Japheths, des Ältern, Bruder, zeugte auch Kinder, der ein Vater ist aller Kinder von Eber.

22 Und dies sind seine Kinder: Elam, Assur, Arphachsad, Lud und Aram.

23 Die Kinder von Aram sind diese: Uz, Hul, Gether und Mas.

24 Arphachsad aber zeugte Salah, Salah zeugte Eber.

25 Eber zeugte zwei Söhne. Einer hieß Peleg, darum daß zu seiner Zeit die Welt zerteilt ward; des Bruder hieß Joktan.

26 Und Joktan zeugte Almodad, Saleph, Hazarmaveth, Jarah,

27 Hadoram, Usal, Dikla,

28 Obal, Abimael, Saba,

29 Ophir, Hevila und Jobab. Das sind die Kinder von Joktan.

30 Und ihre Wohnung war von Mesa an, bis man kommt gen Sephar, an den Berg gegen Morgen.

31 Das sind die Kinder von Sem in ihren Geschlechtern, Sprachen, Ländern und Leuten.

32 Das sind die Nachkommen der Kinder Noahs in ihren Geschlechtern und Leuten. Von denen sind ausgebreitet die Leute auf Erden nach der Sintflut.

Die Nachkommenschaft der drei Söhne Noahs

10 Dies ist die Geschichte der Söhne Noahs: Sem, Ham und Japhet; und nach der Sintflut wurden ihnen Söhne geboren.

Die Söhne Japhets waren: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Jawan, Tubal, Mesech und Tiras.

Die Söhne Gomers aber: Aschkenas, Riphat und Togarma.

Und die Söhne Jawans: Elischa, Tarsis, die Kittäer und die Dodaniter.

Von diesen haben sie sich auf die Gebiete[a] der Heiden verteilt, in ihre Länder, jeder nach seiner Sprache; in ihre Völkerschaften, jeder nach seiner Sippe.

Und dies sind die Söhne Hams: Kusch[b], Mizraim[c], Put und Kanaan.

Und die Söhne Kuschs: Seba, Hawila, Sabta, Ragma, Sabtecha. Und die Söhne Ragmas: Scheba und Dedan.

Auch zeugte Kusch den Nimrod[d]; der war der erste Gewalthaber auf Erden.

Er war ein gewaltiger Jäger vor dem Herrn; daher sagt man: »Ein gewaltiger Jäger vor dem Herrn wie Nimrod«.

11 Von diesem Land zog er aus nach Assur und baute Ninive, Rechobot-Ir und Kelach,

14 auch die Patrusiter und die Kasluchiter (von denen die Philister ausgegangen sind) und die Kaphtoriter.

15 Kanaan aber zeugte Zidon, seinen Erstgeborenen, und Het,

16 auch den Jebusiter, den Amoriter und den Girgasiter,

17 und den Hewiter, den Arkiter und den Siniter

18 und den Arwaditer, den Zemariter und den Hamatiter; und danach breiteten sich die Sippen der Kanaaniter aus.

19 Und das Gebiet der Kanaaniter erstreckte sich von Zidon an bis dahin, wo man von Gerar nach Gaza kommt; nach Sodom und Gomorra, Adama und Zeboim hin, bis nach Lascha.

20 Das sind die Söhne Hams nach ihren Sippen und Sprachen, in ihren Ländern und Völkerschaften.

21 Auch Sem wurden Kinder geboren, ihm, dem Vater[e] aller Söhne Hebers[f], dem älteren Bruder Japhets.

22 Die Söhne Sems waren Elam, Assur, Arpakschad, Lud und Aram.

23 Und Arams Söhne: Uz, Hul, Geter und Masch.

24 Arpakschad aber zeugte Schelach, und Schelach zeugte Heber.

25 Und Heber wurden zwei Söhne geboren; der Name des einen war Peleg[g], denn in seinen Tagen wurde die Erde geteilt; und der Name seines Bruders war Joktan.

26 Und Joktan zeugte Almodad, Scheleph, Hazarmawet und Jerach,

27 Hadoram, Usal und Dikla,

28 Obal, Abimael und Scheba,

29 Ophir, Hawila und Jobab; alle diese sind Söhne Joktans.

30 Und ihre Wohnsitze erstreckten sich von Mescha an, bis man nach Sephar kommt, zum östlichen Gebirge.

31 Das sind die Söhne Sems nach ihren Sippen und Sprachen, in ihren Ländern und Völkerschaften.

32 Das sind die Sippen der Söhne Noahs nach ihrer Abstammung in ihren Völkern; und von ihnen haben sich nach der Sintflut die Völker auf der Erde verteilt.

The Japhethites(D)

The sons[a] of Japheth:

Gomer,(E) Magog,(F) Madai, Javan,(G) Tubal,(H) Meshek(I) and Tiras.

The sons of Gomer:

Ashkenaz,(J) Riphath and Togarmah.(K)

The sons of Javan:

Elishah,(L) Tarshish,(M) the Kittites(N) and the Rodanites.[b] (From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.)(O)

The Hamites(P)

The sons of Ham:

Cush,(Q) Egypt, Put(R) and Canaan.(S)

The sons of Cush:

Seba,(T) Havilah,(U) Sabtah, Raamah(V) and Sabteka.

The sons of Raamah:

Sheba(W) and Dedan.(X)

Cush was the father[c] of Nimrod,(Y) who became a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty(Z) hunter(AA) before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon,(AB) Uruk,(AC) Akkad and Kalneh,(AD) in[d] Shinar.[e](AE) 11 From that land he went to Assyria,(AF) where he built Nineveh,(AG) Rehoboth Ir,[f] Calah 12 and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.

13 Egypt was the father of

the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, 14 Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines(AH) came) and Caphtorites.(AI)

15 Canaan(AJ) was the father of

Sidon(AK) his firstborn,[g](AL) and of the Hittites,(AM) 16 Jebusites,(AN) Amorites,(AO) Girgashites,(AP) 17 Hivites,(AQ) Arkites, Sinites, 18 Arvadites,(AR) Zemarites and Hamathites.(AS)

Later the Canaanite(AT) clans scattered 19 and the borders of Canaan(AU) reached from Sidon(AV) toward Gerar(AW) as far as Gaza,(AX) and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim,(AY) as far as Lasha.

20 These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

The Semites(AZ)

21 Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was[h] Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber.(BA)

22 The sons of Shem:

Elam,(BB) Ashur,(BC) Arphaxad,(BD) Lud and Aram.(BE)

23 The sons of Aram:

Uz,(BF) Hul, Gether and Meshek.[i]

24 Arphaxad was the father of[j] Shelah,

and Shelah the father of Eber.(BG)

25 Two sons were born to Eber:

One was named Peleg,[k] because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

26 Joktan was the father of

Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal,(BH) Diklah, 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,(BI) 29 Ophir,(BJ) Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

30 The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country.

31 These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.

32 These are the clans of Noah’s sons,(BK) according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth(BL) after the flood.

The Descendants of the Sons of Noah

10 These are the generations[a] of the sons of Noah—Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Children[b] were born to them after the flood. The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. From these the coastland peoples spread out through their lands, each according to his own language by their own families, in their nations.

And the sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. And the sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. And Cush fathered Nimrod. He was the first on earth to be a mighty warrior.[c] He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

13 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,

14 And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.

15 And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth,

16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,

17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,

18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.

22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.

25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.

26 And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,

27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
