40 És lõn ezekután, hogy az égyiptomi király pohárnoka és sütõmestere vétkezének az õ urok ellen, az égyiptomi király ellen.
2 Megharaguvék azért a Faraó az õ két fõemberére, a fõpohárnokra, és a fõsütõmesterre.
3 És fogságba vetteté azokat a testõrök fõhadnagyának házában levõ tömlöczbe, arra a helyre, ahol fogva vala József.
4 A testõrök fõhadnagya pedig Józsefet rendelé melléjük és szolgála nékik. És jó ideig valának fogságban.
5 És az égyiptomi király pohárnoka és sütõmestere, a kik a tömlöczben fogva valának, látának álmot mindketten; mindegyik külön álmot, azon egy éjjel, mindegyik az õ álmának értelme szerint.
6 És beméne hozzájok József reggel, látá, hogy ímé bánkódnak vala.
7 És megkérdé a Faraó fõembereit, a kik az õ ura házánál vele együtt fogva valának, mondván: Miért oly komor ma a ti orczátok?
8 És mondának néki: Álmot láttunk és nincsen a ki megfejtse azt. És monda nékik József: A megfejtés nem Isten dolga-é? mondjátok el, kérlek, nékem.
9 Elbeszélé azért a fõpohárnok az õ álmát Józsefnek, és monda néki: Álmomban ímé egy szõlõtõ vala elõttem;
10 És a szõlõtõn három szál vesszõ vala, s alighogy bimbózék, virágozék, és gerézdjei megérlelék a szõlõszemeket.
11 A Faraó pohara pedig az én kezemben vala, és én vevém a szõlõszemeket és facsarám a Faraó poharába, és adom vala a poharat a Faraó kezébe.
12 És monda néki József: Ez annak a megfejtése: a három vesszõszál, három nap.
13 Harmadnap múlva a Faraó felmagasztalja a te fejedet, és visszahelyez téged hivatalodba, és adod a Faraó kezébe az õ poharát, az elébbi tiszted szerint, mikor az õ pohárnokja valál.
14 Csakhogy azután megemlékezzél rólam, mikor néked jól lesz dolgod, és cselekedjél, kérlek, irgalmasságot velem, emlékezzél meg rólam a Faraó elõtt és szabadíts meg engem e házból.
15 Mert lopva hoztak el engem a héberek földérõl, és itt sem cselekedtem semmit, hogy a tömlöczbe vessenek.
16 És látá a fõsütõmester, hogy jól magyaráz vala és monda Józsefnek: Álmodtam én is, hogy ímé három kosár kalács vala fejemen.
17 A felsõ kosárban pedig valának a Faraónak mindenféle süteményei, és a madarak eszik vala azokat a kosárból, az én fejemrõl.
18 És felele József és monda: Ez annak a magyarázatja: a három kosár, három nap.
19 Harmadnap múlva fejedet véteti a Faraó és fára akasztat fel téged, és a madarak leeszik rólad húsodat.
20 S lõn harmadnapon a Faraó születése napja, és vendégséget szerze minden õ szolgáinak, s akkor a fõpohárnokot és a fõsütõmestert is fölvevé szolgái közé.
21 És a fõpohárnokot visszahelyezé pohárnokságába, és nyújtotta a poharat a Faraó kezébe.
22 A fõsütõmestert pedig felakasztatá; a miképen magyarázta vala nékik József.
23 És nem emlékezék meg a fõpohárnok Józsefrõl, hanem elfelejtkezék róla.

The Cupbearer and the Baker
40 Some time later, the cupbearer(A) and the baker(B) of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt. 2 Pharaoh was angry(C) with his two officials,(D) the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, 3 and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard,(E) in the same prison where Joseph was confined. 4 The captain of the guard(F) assigned them to Joseph,(G) and he attended them.
After they had been in custody(H) for some time, 5 each of the two men—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison—had a dream(I) the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.(J)
6 When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected. 7 So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody(K) with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?”(L)
8 “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”(M)
Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God?(N) Tell me your dreams.”
9 So the chief cupbearer(O) told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me, 10 and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed,(P) and its clusters ripened into grapes. 11 Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”
12 “This is what it means,(Q)” Joseph said to him. “The three branches are three days.(R) 13 Within three days(S) Pharaoh will lift up your head(T) and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.(U) 14 But when all goes well with you, remember me(V) and show me kindness;(W) mention me to Pharaoh(X) and get me out of this prison. 15 I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews,(Y) and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”(Z)
16 When the chief baker(AA) saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation,(AB) he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets(AC) of bread.[a] 17 In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”
18 “This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days.(AD) 19 Within three days(AE) Pharaoh will lift off your head(AF) and impale your body on a pole.(AG) And the birds will eat away your flesh.”(AH)
20 Now the third day(AI) was Pharaoh’s birthday,(AJ) and he gave a feast for all his officials.(AK) He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker(AL) in the presence of his officials: 21 He restored the chief cupbearer(AM) to his position,(AN) so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand(AO)— 22 but he impaled the chief baker,(AP) just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation.(AQ)
23 The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.(AR)

Joseph Interprets Two Prisoners' Dreams
40 Some time after this, the (A)cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker committed an offense against their lord the king of Egypt. 2 And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, 3 (B)and he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined. 4 The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. They continued for some time in custody.
5 And one night they both dreamed—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison—each his own dream, and each dream with its own interpretation. 6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were troubled. 7 So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody in his master's house, (C)“Why are your faces downcast today?” 8 They said to him, (D)“We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, (E)“Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”
9 So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream there was a vine before me, 10 and on the vine there were three branches. As soon as it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters ripened into grapes. 11 Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand.” 12 Then Joseph said to him, (F)“This is its interpretation: (G)the three branches are three days. 13 In three days Pharaoh will (H)lift up your head and restore you to your office, and you shall place Pharaoh's cup in his hand as formerly, when you were his cupbearer. 14 Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house. 15 For (I)I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and (J)here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.”
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, “I also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head, 17 and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head.” 18 And Joseph answered and said, (K)“This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. 19 (L)In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head—from you!—and (M)hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you.”
20 On the third day, which was Pharaoh's (N)birthday, he made a feast for all his servants and (O)lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. 21 (P)He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and (Q)he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand. 22 But he (R)hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

Josef tyder drömmar i fängelset
1-3 Någon tid senare hände det sig att kungen i Egypten blev så arg på sin hovbagare och sin vinsmakare, att han lät fängsla dem båda två och sätta dem i det fängelse i Potifars palats där Josef var. Potifar var kapten för vakten och riksbödel.
4 De blev kvar ganska länge i arresten. Potifar gav Josef ansvaret för dem.
5 En natt hade de båda var sin dröm.
6 På morgonen lade Josef märke till att de såg nedstämda och sorgsna ut.
7 Vad i all världen är det med er? frågade han.
8 Vi har båda drömt i natt, men det finns ingen här som kan berätta vad drömmarna betyder, svarade de.Att tolka drömmar är Guds uppgift, svarade Josef. Berätta för mig vad ni såg.
9-10 Vinsmakaren berättade sin dröm först: I min dröm såg jag en vinstock med tre grenar som började knoppas och blomma, och snart fanns det klasar med mogna vindruvor.
11 Jag höll Faraos vinbägare i handen, och jag tog vindruvorna och kramade ur saften i bägaren och gav honom att dricka.
12 Jag vet vad den drömmen betyder, sa Josef. De tre grenarna betyder tre dagar!
13 Inom tre dagar tänker Farao hämta dig från fängelset och ge dig arbetet som vinsmakare tillbaka.
14 Du kan väl tänka på mig när du kommer tillbaka i tjänst och lägga ett gott ord för mig så att jag slipper ut härifrån.
15 Först blev jag kidnappad från hebreernas land, och nu har detta hänt mig. Här sitter jag nu trots att jag inte har gjort något.
16 När hovbagaren såg att den första drömmen hade en så god innebörd, berättade också han sin dröm för Josef.I min dröm, sa han, hade jag tre korgar med bröd på huvudet.
17 I den översta korgen fanns många olika slag av bakverk, men fåglarna kom och åt upp dem.
18-19 De tre korgarna betyder tre dagar, sa Josef till honom. Inom tre dagar kommer Farao att hugga av dig huvudet och hänga upp din kropp på en påle, och fåglarna ska komma och äta av ditt kött!
20 Faraos födelsedag inträffade tre dagar senare, och han hade en fest för alla sina myndighetspersoner och folket i palatset. Han skickade efter sin vinsmakare och sin hovbagare, och de hämtades till honom från fängelset.
21 Vinsmakaren fick upprättelse och arbetet tillbaka,
22 och hovbagaren blev hängd, precis som Josef hade sagt.
23 Men vinsmakaren glömde sitt löfte till Josef och ägnade honom inte mer en tanke.

40 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.
2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
3 And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
4 And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
5 And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
6 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.
7 And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
12 And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:
22 But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23 Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
