Tempelbyggnaden
6 I det fyrahundraåttionde året[a] efter det att Israels barn hade dragit ut ur Egypten, i det fjärde året av Salomos regering över Israel, i månaden Siv som är den andra månaden, började han bygga huset åt Herren. 2 Huset som kung Salomo byggde åt Herren var sextio alnar långt, tjugo alnar brett och trettio alnar högt. 3 Förhuset framför tempelsalen var tjugo alnar långt framför husets kortsida och tio alnar brett, där det låg framför huset. 4 Han gjorde fönster på huset, slutna fönster med bjälkramar. 5 Runt huset uppförde han en ytterbyggnad, som gick runt om husets väggar, både utmed tempelsalen och utmed koret, och i den gjorde han sidokamrar runt om. 6 Den nedersta våningen i ytterbyggnaden var fem alnar bred, den mellersta sex alnar och den tredje sju alnar bred. Han hade nämligen gjort avsatser utvändigt på huset, runt omkring, för att inte behöva göra bjälkhål i husets väggar.
7 När huset uppfördes, byggdes det av redan färdighuggen sten från stenbrottet. Alltså hördes varken hammare eller yxa eller andra järnverktyg vid huset när det byggdes.
8 Dörren till den mellersta sidokammaren fanns på husets högra sida, och via en vindeltrappa kom man upp till den mellersta våningen och från den mellersta våningen upp till den tredje. 9 Så byggde han huset och gjorde det färdigt. Och han täckte det med bjälkar och cederplankor i rader. 10 I ytterbyggnaden utmed hela huset byggde han våningarna fem alnar höga. Den var fäst vid huset med cederbjälkar.
11 Och Herrens ord kom till Salomo. Han sade: 12 "Med detta hus som du bygger skall så ske: Om du vandrar efter mina stadgar och följer mina föreskrifter och håller fast vid alla mina bud och gör efter dem, skall jag på dig uppfylla mitt ord som jag talade till din fader David: 13 Jag skall bo mitt ibland Israels barn och skall inte överge mitt folk Israel."
14 Så byggde Salomo huset och gjorde det färdigt. 15 Han täckte husets väggar invändigt med brädor av cederträ. Från golvet ända upp till takbjälkarna klädde han det med trä invändigt. Husets golv klädde han med brädor av cypressträ. 16 Han täckte de tjugo alnarna i det innersta av huset, från golvet ända upp till bjälkarna, med brädor av cederträ. Så inredde han rummet därinne till ett kor: det allra heligaste. 17 Fyrtio alnar mätte den del av huset som utgjorde tempelsalen framför det. 18 Inuti var huset av cederträ med utsirningar i form av gurkfrukter och blomsterband. Allt var av cederträ, ingen sten syntes.
19 I det inre av huset inredde han ett kor där han skulle ställa Herrens förbundsark. 20 Framför koret, som var tjugo alnar långt, tjugo alnar brett och tjugo alnar högt och som han överdrog med fint guld, satte han ett altare, klätt med cederträ. 21 Och det inre av huset överdrog Salomo med fint guld. Med kedjor av guld stängde han för koret, och även detta överdrog han med guld. 22 Alltså överdrog han hela huset med guld, helt och hållet. Han överdrog också med guld hela det altare som hörde till koret.
23 Till koret gjorde han två keruber av olivträ. De var tio alnar höga. 24 Den ena kerubens vinge mätte fem alnar, och kerubens andra vinge var också fem alnar. Det var alltså tio alnar från den ena vingspetsen till den andra. 25 Den andra keruben var också tio alnar. Båda keruberna hade samma mått och samma form: 26 Den ena keruben var tio alnar hög och så var även den andra keruben. 27 Och han ställde keruberna mitt i det inre av huset, och keruberna bredde ut sina vingar, så att den enes vinge rörde vid den ena väggen, och den andra kerubens vinge rörde vid den andra väggen. Mitt i huset rörde deras båda andra vingar vid varandra. 28 Salomo överdrog keruberna med guld.
29 Och alla husets väggar runt om prydde han med utskurna bilder i form av keruber, palmer och blomsterband. Så gjorde han både i det inre rummet och i det yttre. 30 Husets golv, både i det inre rummet och i det yttre, överdrog han med guld.
31 För ingången till koret gjorde han dörrar av olivträ. Dörrinfattningen hade formen av en femkant. 32 De båda dörrarna av olivträ prydde han med utsirningar i form av keruber, palmer och blomsterband och överdrog dem med guld. Han spred ut guldet över keruberna och palmerna. 33 Likaså gjorde han för ingången till tempelsalen dörrposter av olivträ, i fyrkant. 34 De båda dörrarna var av cypressträ. Varje dörr bestod av två dörrhalvor som kunde vridas. 35 Han prydde dem med utsirningar: keruber, palmer och blomsterband och överdrog dem med guld, som spreds ut jämnt över utskärningarna. 36 Han byggde även den inre förgårdsmuren av tre varv huggna stenar och ett varv huggna bjälkar av cederträ.
37 Det fjärde året, i månaden Siv, blev grunden till Herrens hus lagd. 38 I det elfte året,[b] i månaden Bul, som är den åttonde månaden, var huset färdigt till alla delar, alldeles som det skulle vara. Salomo byggde alltså på huset i sju år.

Der Bau des Tempels in Jerusalem (Kapitel 6–8)
Salomo beginnt mit dem Bau des Tempels (2. Chronik 3,1‒4)
6 480 Jahre waren vergangen, seit die Israeliten Ägypten verlassen hatten. Es war das 4. Regierungsjahr König Salomos. Im Monat Siw, dem 2. Monat des Jahres, begann König Salomo mit dem Bau des Tempels für den Herrn.
2 Das Gebäude war 30 Meter lang, 10 Meter breit und 15 Meter hoch.
3 An der Vorderseite baute Salomo eine Vorhalle an; sie war genauso breit wie der Tempel und 5 Meter lang. 4 In die Tempelmauer ließ Salomo Fenster mit Rahmen und Gitterstäben einsetzen. 5 Um die beiden Seitenwände und die Hinterwand baute er einen dreistöckigen Rundgang, der in einzelne Kammern unterteilt war. 6 Das untere Stockwerk war 2,5 Meter breit, das mittlere 3 Meter und das oberste 3,5 Meter. Mit jedem höher gelegenen Stockwerk trat die Tempelmauer etwas mehr zurück. Dadurch entstanden Mauervorsprünge, auf denen man die tragenden Querbalken der Stockwerke abstützen konnte. So mussten die Balken nicht in der eigentlichen Tempelmauer verankert werden.
7 Die Steine für den Bau des Tempels wurden vorher im Steinbruch schon fertig behauen. Daher brauchte man sie am Bauplatz nur noch zusammenzufügen und hörte dort keinen Lärm von Hämmern, Meißeln und anderen Eisenwerkzeugen.
8 In das untere Stockwerk[a] des Rundgangs kam man durch eine Tür an der rechten Tempelseite. Von dort führte eine Wendeltreppe zum mittleren und oberen Stockwerk hinauf. 9 Nachdem das Mauerwerk errichtet war, ließ Salomo das Gebäude mit einem Flachdach versehen, das mit Balken und Brettern aus Zedernholz gedeckt wurde. 10 Den Rundgang verband er durch Zedernbalken mit der Tempelmauer. Die drei Stockwerke waren jeweils 2,5 Meter hoch.
11 Eines Tages sprach der Herr zu Salomo: 12 »Du baust mir diesen Tempel. Wenn du nun so lebst, wie es mir gefällt, wenn du mein Gesetz befolgst und auf jedes Gebot achtest, dann will ich mein Versprechen einlösen, das ich schon deinem Vater David gegeben habe. 13 Dann will ich mitten unter den Israeliten in diesem Tempel wohnen und mein Volk nie verlassen.«
Der Innenausbau und die Fertigstellung des Tempels (2. Chronik 3,5‒14)
14 Als der Rohbau des Tempels fertiggestellt war, 15 ließ Salomo das ganze Gebäude innen mit Holz auskleiden. Die Wände täfelte er von oben bis unten mit Zedernholz, und den Fußboden belegte er mit Zypressenholz. 16 Zehn Meter vor der Rückwand zog er vom Boden bis zur Decke eine Wand aus Zedernbrettern hoch. Auf diese Weise entstand ein Hinterraum, der das »Allerheiligste« bilden sollte. 17 Der davor liegende Hauptraum, das »Heiligtum«, war also noch 20 Meter lang. 18 Der Tempel war innen ganz mit Zedernholz ausgekleidet, nicht ein Mauerstein war mehr zu sehen. In die Wände wurden Blätter- und Blütenornamente geschnitzt.
19 Im hinteren Raum sollte später die Bundeslade des Herrn stehen. 20 Dieser Teil des Tempels war 10 Meter lang, 10 Meter breit und 10 Meter hoch. Salomo ließ den ganzen Raum mit reinem Gold auskleiden. Vor dem Allerheiligsten stand ein Altar aus Zedernholz. Auch er wurde mit Gold überzogen, 21 ebenso der gesamte Innenraum des Heiligtums. Vor dem Eingang zum Allerheiligsten ließ Salomo goldene Ketten aufhängen. 22 So wurde also der ganze Innenraum des Tempels mit Gold überzogen, ebenso der Altar, der vor dem Allerheiligsten stand.
23 Dann ließ Salomo zwei Keruben aus Olivenholz schnitzen, die im Allerheiligsten stehen sollten. Sie waren 5 Meter hoch. 24 Jeder ihrer ausgespannten Flügel maß 2,5 Meter, so dass ein Kerub von der einen Flügelspitze zur anderen 5 Meter breit war. 25-26 Beide Engelfiguren waren gleich groß, nämlich 5 Meter, und sahen genau gleich aus. 27 Salomo ließ sie mitten im Allerheiligsten aufstellen, und zwar so, dass sich ihre ausgebreiteten Flügel in der Mitte berührten. Mit ihrer äußeren Flügelspitze berührten sie die Seitenwände. 28 Auch die Engel wurden ganz mit Gold überzogen.
29 In die Innenwände des Heiligtums und des Allerheiligsten hatte Salomo Bilder von Keruben, Palmwedeln und Blütenkelchen schnitzen lassen. 30 Den Fußboden der beiden Räume überzog er mit Gold. 31 Für den Eingang zum Allerheiligsten wurde eine Tür mit zwei Flügeln aus Olivenholz hergestellt. Der Türrahmen war fünffach abgestuft. 32 Die Türflügel wurden mit Schnitzereien von Keruben, Palmwedeln und Blüten verziert und anschließend vergoldet. 33 Auch für den Eingang zum Heiligtum ließ Salomo einen Türrahmen aus Olivenholz anfertigen. Er war vierfach abgestuft. 34 Die Tür hatte zwei Flügel aus Zypressenholz. Jeder der beiden Flügel war aus zwei drehbaren Teilen zusammengesetzt. 35 Auch in diese Tür wurden Ornamente von Keruben, Palmenzweigen und Blütenkelchen geschnitzt und danach gleichmäßig mit Gold überzogen.
36 Um das Gebäude herum wurde der innere Vorhof angelegt und mit einer Mauer eingegrenzt. Sie bestand aus drei Lagen behauener Steine und einer Lage Zedernbalken.
37 Im 4. Regierungsjahr Salomos, im Monat Siw, dem 2. Monat des Jahres, war das Fundament für den Tempel gelegt worden. 38 Im 11. Regierungsjahr Salomos, im Monat Bul, dem 8. Monat des Jahres, war der Tempel fertig. Insgesamt hatte man also sieben Jahre daran gebaut. Jede Einzelheit stimmte genau mit den Bauplänen überein.

2 And the house which king Solomon built for the Lord, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.
3 And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.
4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.
5 And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:
6 The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.
7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.
8 The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.
9 So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.
10 And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.
11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,
12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.
14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.
15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.
16 And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.
17 And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.
18 And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.
19 And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
20 And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.
21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.
23 And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.
24 And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.
25 And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.
26 The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.
27 And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
28 And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.
29 And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.
30 And the floors of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.
31 And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.
32 The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.
33 So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.
34 And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.
35 And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.
36 And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.
37 In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the Lord laid, in the month Zif:
38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

Solomon Builds the Temple(A)
6 In the four hundred and eightieth[a] year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month,(B) he began to build the temple of the Lord.(C)
2 The temple(D) that King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.[b] 3 The portico(E) at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits,[c] and projected ten cubits[d] from the front of the temple. 4 He made narrow windows(F) high up in the temple walls. 5 Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms.(G) 6 The lowest floor was five cubits[e] wide, the middle floor six cubits[f] and the third floor seven.[g] He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.
7 In building the temple, only blocks dressed(H) at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool(I) was heard at the temple site while it was being built.
8 The entrance to the lowest[h] floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third. 9 So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar(J) planks. 10 And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.
11 The word of the Lord came(K) to Solomon: 12 “As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands(L) and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise(M) I gave to David your father. 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon(N) my people Israel.”
14 So Solomon(O) built the temple and completed(P) it. 15 He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling,(Q) and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper.(R) 16 He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.(S) 17 The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits[i] long. 18 The inside of the temple was cedar,(T) carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.
19 He prepared the inner sanctuary(U) within the temple to set the ark of the covenant(V) of the Lord there. 20 The inner sanctuary(W) was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.(X) 21 Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. 22 So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
23 For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim(Y) out of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits—ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits. 27 He placed the cherubim(Z) inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold.
29 On the walls(AA) all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim,(AB) palm trees and open flowers. 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.
31 For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood that were one fifth of the width of the sanctuary. 32 And on the two olive-wood doors(AC) he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold. 33 In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made doorframes out of olive wood that were one fourth of the width of the hall. 34 He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets. 35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.
36 And he built the inner courtyard(AD) of three courses(AE) of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.
37 The foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details(AF) according to its specifications.(AG) He had spent seven years building it.
