⁶ Do not be anxious about anything,^(A) but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.^(B)

Locusts, Fire and a Plumb Line

7 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:^(A) He was preparing swarms of locusts^(B) after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. ² When they had stripped the land clean,^(C) I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive?^(D) He is so small!^(E)”

³ So the Lord relented.^(F)

“This will not happen,” the Lord said.^(G)

⁴ This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire;^(H) it dried up the great deep and devoured^(I) the land. ⁵ Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!^(J)”

⁶ So the Lord relented.^(K)

“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.^(L)

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication^(A)

²² Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands^(B) toward heaven

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed^(A) to the Lord: ¹⁶ “Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, enthroned^(B) between the cherubim,^(C) you alone are God^(D) over all the kingdoms^(E) of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.^{(F) 17} Give ear, Lord, and hear;^(G) open your eyes, Lord, and see;^(H) listen to all the words Sennacherib^(I) has sent to ridicule^(J) the living God.^(K)

¹⁸ “It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.^{(L) 19} They have thrown their gods into the fire^(M) and destroyed them,^(N) for they were not gods^(O) but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.^{(P) 20} Now, Lord our God, deliver^(Q) us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth^(R) may know that you, Lord, are the only God.^[a](S)”

Sennacherib’s Fall^(T)

²¹ Then Isaiah son of Amoz^(U) sent a message to Hezekiah: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

⁴ It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule^(A) the living God,^(B) and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard.^(C) Therefore pray^(D) for the remnant^(E) that still survives.”
