Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication
22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands to heaven. 23 He said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and steadfast love for your servants who walk before you with all their heart, 24 the covenant that you kept for your servant my father David as you declared to him; you promised with your mouth and have this day fulfilled with your hand. 25 Therefore, O Lord, God of Israel, keep for your servant my father David that which you promised him, saying, ‘There shall never fail you a successor before me to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children look to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’ 26 Therefore, O God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you promised to your servant my father David.
27 “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Even heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, much less this house that I have built! 28 Regard your servant’s prayer and his plea, O Lord my God, heeding the cry and the prayer that your servant prays to you today; 29 that your eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which you said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that you may heed the prayer that your servant prays toward this place. 30 Hear the plea of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place; O hear in heaven your dwelling place; heed and forgive.
31 “If someone sins against a neighbor and is given an oath to swear, and comes and swears before your altar in this house, 32 then hear in heaven, and act, and judge your servants, condemning the guilty by bringing their conduct on their own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding them according to their righteousness.
33 “When your people Israel, having sinned against you, are defeated before an enemy but turn again to you, confess your name, pray and plead with you in this house,

22 (A)Poi Salomone si pose davanti all’altare del Signore, in presenza di tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo 23 e disse: «O Signore, Dio d’Israele! Non c’è nessun dio che sia simile a te, né lassù in cielo, né quaggiù in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi che camminano in tua presenza con tutto il cuore. 24 Tu hai mantenuto la promessa che facesti al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, e ciò che dichiarasti con la tua bocca, la tua mano oggi l’adempie. 25 Ora, Signore, Dio d’Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, la promessa che gli facesti, dicendo: “Non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che sieda davanti a me sul trono d’Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sulla loro condotta e camminino in mia presenza, come tu hai camminato”. 26 Ora, o Dio d’Israele, si avveri la parola che dicesti al tuo servo Davide, mio padre!

31 Se uno pecca contro il suo prossimo, e si esige da lui il giuramento per costringerlo a giurare, se egli viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questa casa, 32 tu ascolta dal cielo, agisci e giudica i tuoi servi; condanna il colpevole, facendo ricadere sul suo capo i suoi atti, e dichiara giusto l’innocente, trattandolo secondo la sua giustizia.

22 Und Salomo trat vor den Altar des Herrn angesichts der ganzen Gemeinde Israels, und er breitete seine Hände zum Himmel aus und sprach:
23 O Herr, du Gott Israels! Es gibt keinen Gott, der dir gleich wäre, weder oben im Himmel noch unten auf Erden, der du den Bund und die Gnade bewahrst deinen Knechten, die mit ihrem ganzen Herzen vor dir wandeln;
24 der du deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, gehalten hast, was du ihm verheißen hattest; du hast es mit deinem Mund geredet, und mit deiner Hand hast du es erfüllt, wie es heute der Fall ist.
25 Und nun, Herr, du Gott Israels, halte doch deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, was du ihm versprochen hast, als du sagtest: »Es soll dir nicht fehlen an einem Mann vor meinem Angesicht, der auf dem Thron Israels sitzt, wenn nur deine Söhne ihren Weg bewahren, dass sie vor mir wandeln, wie du vor mir gewandelt bist!«
26 Und nun, du Gott Israels, lass doch dein Wort wahr werden, das du zu deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, geredet hast!
27 Aber wohnt Gott wirklich auf der Erde? Siehe, die Himmel und aller Himmel Himmel können dich nicht fassen; wie sollte es denn dieses Haus tun, das ich gebaut habe!
28 Wende dich aber zu dem Gebet deines Knechtes und zu seinem Flehen, o Herr, mein Gott, dass du hörst auf das Rufen und das Gebet, welches dein Knecht heute vor dich bringt!
29 Lass deine Augen Tag und Nacht offen stehen über diesem Haus, über dem Ort, von dem du gesagt hast: Mein Name soll dort sein, dass du das Gebet erhörst, das dein Knecht zu dieser Stätte gerichtet betet.
30 So höre doch das Flehen deines Knechtes und deines Volkes Israel, das sie zu diesem Ort hin richten werden! Ja, höre du es an dem Ort deiner Wohnung, im Himmel, und wenn du es hörst, so vergib!
31 Wenn jemand gegen seinen Nächsten sündigt, und man erlegt ihm einen Eid auf, den er schwören soll, und er kommt und schwört vor deinem Altar in diesem Haus,
32 so höre du es im Himmel und greife ein und schaffe deinen Knechten Recht, indem du den Schuldigen verurteilst und sein Tun auf sein Haupt zurückfallen lässt, den Gerechten aber rechtfertigst und ihm nach seiner Gerechtigkeit vergiltst.
33 Wenn dein Volk Israel vor dem Feind geschlagen wird, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und sie kehren wieder zu dir um und bekennen deinen Namen, beten und flehen zu dir in diesem Haus,

„Ó Örökkévaló, Izráel Istene! Nincs hozzád fogható isten sem égen, sem földön! Te megtartod a szövetséget, amelyet szolgáiddal kötöttél, és hűséges szereteted állandó marad azok iránt, akik teljes szívvel-lélekkel járnak jelenlétedben.
24 Megtartottad, amit szolgádnak, Dávidnak, apámnak megígértél. Amit mondtál neki, azt hatalmaddal a mai napon be is teljesítetted. 25 Most hát, Örökkévaló, Izráel Istene tartsd meg, és teljesítsd be a többi ígéretedet is, amelyeket szolgádnak, Dávidnak, apámnak ígértél, amikor azt mondtad:
»Mindörökké valamelyik férfi leszármazottad fog a szemem előtt Izráel trónján ülni királyként. Figyelj rá, hiszen te mondtad, hogy ide helyezed nevedet! Hallgasd meg szolgád, amikor e Templom felé fordulva hozzád imádkozik! 30 Hallgasd meg szolgád és néped, Izráel imádságát a jövőben is, amikor majd e Templom felé fordulva hozzád imádkoznak! 22 Puis Salomon se plaça devant l’autel de l’Eternel, en faisant face à toute l’assemblée d’Israël. Il leva les mains vers le ciel 23 et pria : Eternel, Dieu d’Israël ! Il n’y a pas de Dieu semblable à toi, ni là-haut dans le ciel, ni ici-bas sur la terre ! Tu es fidèle à ton alliance et tu conserves ta bonté à tes serviteurs qui se conduisent selon ta volonté de tout leur cœur. 24 Ainsi tu as tenu la promesse que tu avais faite à ton serviteur David, mon père, oui, tu as agi pour que soit accompli aujourd’hui ce que tu lui avais déclaré de ta propre bouche. 25 A présent, Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, veuille aussi tenir l’autre promesse que tu lui as faite lorsque tu lui as dit : « Il y aura toujours l’un de tes descendants qui siégera sous mon regard sur le trône d’Israël, à condition qu’ils veillent sur leur conduite pour vivre selon ma volonté comme tu as toi-même vécu[a]. » 26 Oui, maintenant, Dieu d’Israël, daigne réaliser cette promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur, mon père David.
27 Mais est-ce qu’en vérité Dieu habiterait sur la terre, alors que le ciel dans toute son immensité ne saurait le contenir ? Combien moins ce temple que je viens de te construire ! 28 Toutefois, Eternel, mon Dieu, veuille être attentif à la prière et à la supplication de ton serviteur et écouter l’appel que je t’adresse en ce jour. 29 Que tes yeux veillent nuit et jour sur ce temple, ce lieu dont tu as toi-même dit : « Là, je serai présent[b]. » Et exauce la prière que ton serviteur t’adresse en ce lieu. 30 Daigne écouter ma supplication et celle de ton peuple Israël lorsqu’il viendra prier ici. Depuis le lieu où tu demeures, depuis le ciel, entends notre prière et veuille pardonner !
31 Lorsque quelqu’un sera accusé d’avoir commis une faute envers son prochain et qu’on exigera de lui qu’il prête serment avec des imprécations ici devant ton autel dans ce temple, 32 sois attentif depuis le ciel, interviens et juge tes serviteurs pour condamner le coupable, afin qu’il reçoive le châtiment que mérite sa conduite et pour faire reconnaître l’innocence du juste afin qu’il soit traité selon son innocence.
33 Quand ton peuple Israël aura été battu par un ennemi, parce que ses membres auront péché contre toi, si ensuite ils reviennent à toi, s’ils t’adressent leurs louanges, te prient et t’expriment leurs supplications dans ce temple,
