Solomon Prepares to Build the Temple(A)
5 Now (B)Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, because he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, (C)for Hiram had always loved David. 2 Then (D)Solomon sent to Hiram, saying:
3 (E)You know how my father David could not build a house for the name of the Lord his God (F)because of the wars which were fought against him on every side, until the Lord put [a]his foes under the soles of his feet.
4 But now the Lord my God has given me (G)rest[b] on every side; there is neither adversary nor [c]evil occurrence.
5 (H)And behold, [d]I propose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, (I)as the Lord spoke to my father David, saying, “Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name.”
6 Now therefore, command that they cut down (J)cedars for me from Lebanon; and my servants will be with your servants, and I will pay you wages for your servants according to whatever you say. For you know there is none among us who has skill to cut timber like the Sidonians.
7 So it was, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said,
Blessed be the Lord this day, for He has given David a wise son over this great people!
8 Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying:
I have considered the message which you sent me, and I will do all you desire concerning the cedar and cypress logs.
9 My servants shall bring them down (K)from Lebanon to the sea; I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you indicate to me, and will have them broken apart there; then you can take them away. And you shall fulfill my desire (L)by giving food for my household.
10 Then Hiram gave Solomon cedar and cypress logs according to all his desire. 11 (M)And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand [e]kors of wheat as food for his household, and [f]twenty kors of pressed oil. Thus Solomon gave to Hiram year by year.
12 So the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, (N)as He had promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together.
13 Then King Solomon raised up a labor force out of all Israel; and the labor force was thirty thousand men. 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month in shifts: they were one month in Lebanon and two months at home; (O)Adoniram was in charge of the labor force. 15 (P)Solomon had seventy thousand who carried burdens, and eighty thousand who quarried stone in the mountains, 16 besides three thousand [g]three hundred from the (Q)chiefs of Solomon’s deputies, who supervised the people who labored in the work. 17 And the king commanded them to quarry large stones, costly stones, and (R)hewn stones, to lay the foundation of the [h]temple. 18 So Solomon’s builders, Hiram’s builders, and the Gebalites quarried them; and they prepared timber and stones to build the [i]temple.

5 Hi-ram, vua Tia, xưa nay vốn là bạn của Đa-vít. Khi Hi-ram nghe tin Sô-lô-môn đã lên ngôi vua thế Đa-vít thì phái các sứ giả đến chúc mừng Sô-lô-môn. 2 Vua Sô-lô-môn nhắn về cho vua Hi-ram như sau: 3 “Chắc ngài còn nhớ Đa-vít, cha tôi vì phải đánh nhau nhiều với các nước chung quanh cho nên không thể xây một đền thờ để thờ phụng CHÚA là Thượng Đế của người được. Đa-vít chờ cho đến khi CHÚA cho phép người đánh bại hết mọi kẻ thù. 4 Nhưng nay CHÚA là Thượng Đế tôi đã ban cho tôi hoà bình bốn bên trong nước. Tôi không còn thù nghịch nữa; không còn mối nguy nào đe dọa dân tôi.
5 CHÚA đã hứa với Đa-vít cha tôi rằng, ‘Ta sẽ lập con ngươi lên nối ngôi sau ngươi, và nó sẽ xây một đền thờ để thờ phụng ta.’ Bây giờ tôi dự định xây đền thờ đó để thờ phụng CHÚA là Thượng Đế tôi. 6 Vậy xin phái người đến đốn cây hương nam ở Li-băng cho tôi. Các tôi tớ tôi sẽ làm việc chung với tôi tớ ngài, tôi sẽ trả công theo như ngài muốn. Chúng tôi không có ai có tài làm nghề mộc [a] giỏi như người Xi-đôn.”
7 Khi Hi-ram nghe điều Sô-lô-môn yêu cầu vua bảo, “Chúc tụng Thượng Đế hôm nay! Ngài đã ban cho Đa-vít một con trai khôn ngoan để cai trị quốc gia to lớn nầy!” 8 Hi-ram liền nhắn lại với Sô-lô-môn như sau: “Tôi có nghe biết điều Ngài muốn, tôi sẽ cung cấp cho ngài đủ số cây hương nam và cây thông ngài cần. 9 Các tôi tớ tôi sẽ đưa gỗ từ Li-băng ra biển rồi đóng bè cho trôi dọc theo bờ biển đến nơi ngài chọn. Đến nơi tôi sẽ rã bè ra rồi ngài mang đi. Tôi chỉ cần ngài cung cấp thực phẩm cho người của tôi.” 10 Vậy Hi-ram cung cấp gỗ hương nam và gỗ thông cho vua Sô-lô-môn theo nhu cầu của vua.
11 Sô-lô-môn trả cho Hi-ram khoảng một trăm hai mươi ngàn thùng [b] lúa mì mỗi năm để nuôi những người của vua. Sô-lô-môn cũng trả cho vua khoảng bốn trăm bốn mươi ngàn lít [c] dầu ô-liu nguyên chất mỗi năm.
12 CHÚA ban cho Sô-lô-môn sự khôn ngoan như Ngài đã hứa. Giữa Hi-ram và Sô-lô-môn rất thân thiện; hai vua kết ước với nhau.
13 Vua Sô-lô-môn bắt ba mươi ngàn người Ít-ra-en làm xâu. 14 Mỗi tháng vua gởi một toán mười ngàn người đến Li-băng. Mỗi toán làm việc một tháng ở Li-băng rồi được về nhà hai tháng. Có A-đô-ni-ram cai quản họ. 15 Sô-lô-môn cũng bắt tám mươi ngàn người làm xâu trong vùng núi để đục đá và bảy mươi ngàn người khuân vác. 16 Ngoài ra có ba ngàn ba trăm đốc công để giám sát thợ. 17 Vua Sô-lô-môn truyền cho họ phải đục những tảng đá lớn thuộc loại tốt dùng xây nền đền thờ. 18 Các thợ xây cất của Sô-lô-môn và Hi-ram cùng những người từ Bi-bi-lốt [d] đục đá, chuẩn bị đá và gỗ để xây đền thờ.

5 泰爾王希蘭素來與大衛修好，他聽說以色列人膏立了所羅門繼承大衛的王位，就遣使者來見所羅門。 2 所羅門也派人去見希蘭，說： 3 「你知道，我父大衛因周圍戰事連連，未能為他的上帝耶和華建殿，要等到耶和華使仇敵伏在他腳下後再建。 4 現在我的上帝耶和華使我四境太平，內外無憂， 5 我想為我的上帝耶和華建殿，因為耶和華曾對我父大衛說，『我必使你的兒子繼承你的王位，他必為我的名建殿。』 6 請你命人為我砍伐黎巴嫩的香柏木。我會派人幫助你的人，並按你的要求付你的人工錢。因為你知道，我們沒有人像西頓人那樣善於砍伐樹木。」

Preparations for Building the Temple(A)
5 [a]When Hiram(B) king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been anointed king to succeed his father David, he sent his envoys to Solomon, because he had always been on friendly terms with David. 2 Solomon sent back this message to Hiram:
3 “You know that because of the wars(C) waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build(D) a temple for the Name of the Lord his God until the Lord put his enemies under his feet.(E) 4 But now the Lord my God has given me rest(F) on every side, and there is no adversary(G) or disaster. 5 I intend, therefore, to build a temple(H) for the Name of the Lord my God, as the Lord told my father David, when he said, ‘Your son whom I will put on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.’(I)
6 “So give orders that cedars(J) of Lebanon be cut for me. My men will work with yours, and I will pay you for your men whatever wages you set. You know that we have no one so skilled in felling timber as the Sidonians.”
7 When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was greatly pleased and said, “Praise be to the Lord(K) today, for he has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.”
8 So Hiram sent word to Solomon:
“I have received the message you sent me and will do all you want in providing the cedar and juniper logs. 9 My men will haul them down from Lebanon to the Mediterranean Sea(L), and I will float them as rafts by sea to the place you specify. There I will separate them and you can take them away. And you are to grant my wish by providing food(M) for my royal household.”
10 In this way Hiram kept Solomon supplied with all the cedar and juniper logs he wanted, 11 and Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors[b] of wheat as food(N) for his household, in addition to twenty thousand baths[c][d] of pressed olive oil. Solomon continued to do this for Hiram year after year. 12 The Lord gave Solomon wisdom,(O) just as he had promised him. There were peaceful relations between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.(P)
13 King Solomon conscripted laborers(Q) from all Israel—thirty thousand men. 14 He sent them off to Lebanon in shifts of ten thousand a month, so that they spent one month in Lebanon and two months at home. Adoniram(R) was in charge of the forced labor. 15 Solomon had seventy thousand carriers and eighty thousand stonecutters in the hills, 16 as well as thirty-three hundred[e] foremen(S) who supervised the project and directed the workers. 17 At the king’s command they removed from the quarry(T) large blocks of high-grade stone(U) to provide a foundation of dressed stone for the temple. 18 The craftsmen of Solomon and Hiram(V) and workers from Byblos(W) cut and prepared the timber and stone for the building of the temple.

5 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.
4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
6 Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
16 Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
18 And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
