When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was greatly pleased and said, “Praise be to the Lord(A) today, for he has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.”

So Hiram sent word to Solomon:

“I have received the message you sent me and will do all you want in providing the cedar and juniper logs. My men will haul them down from Lebanon to the Mediterranean Sea(B), and I will float them as rafts by sea to the place you specify. There I will separate them and you can take them away. And you are to grant my wish by providing food(C) for my royal household.”

Als nun Hiram die Worte Salomos hörte, freute er sich hoch und sprach: Der Herr sei heute gelobt, der David einen weisen Sohn gegeben hat über dieses große Volk! Und Hiram sandte zu Salomo und ließ ihm sagen:

Ich habe [die Botschaft] gehört, die du mir gesandt hast; ich will tun nach all deinem Begehren betreffs des Zedern- und Zypressenholzes. Meine Knechte sollen die Stämme vom Libanon an das Meer hinabbringen; darauf will ich sie zu Flößen machen auf dem Meere bis an den Ort, den du mir wirst sagen lassen, und ich will sie selbst wieder zerlegen, und du sollst sie holen lassen. Aber du sollst auch mein Begehren erfüllen und meinem Gesinde Speise geben!

As soon as Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the Lord this day, who has given to David a wise son to be over this great people.” And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, “I have heard the message that you have sent to me. I am ready to do all you desire in the matter of cedar and cypress timber. My servants shall bring it down to the sea from Lebanon, and I will make it into rafts to go by sea to the place you direct. And I will have them broken up there, and you shall receive it. And you shall meet my wishes (A)by providing food for my household.”

So it was, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said,

Blessed be the Lord this day, for He has given David a wise son over this great people!

Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying:

I have considered the message which you sent me, and I will do all you desire concerning the cedar and cypress logs.

My servants shall bring them down (A)from Lebanon to the sea; I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you indicate to me, and will have them broken apart there; then you can take them away. And you shall fulfill my desire (B)by giving food for my household.
