Solomon's Officials

4 King Solomon was king over all Israel, 2 and these were his high officials: Azariah the son of Zadok was (A)the priest; 3 Elihoreph and Ahijah the sons of Shisha were secretaries; (B)Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 4 (C)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was in command of the army; (D)Zadok and Abiathar were priests; 5 Azariah the son of Nathan was over (E)the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan was priest and (F)king's friend; 6 Ahishar was in charge of the palace; and (G)Adoniram the son of Abda was in charge of (H)the forced labor.

7 Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided food for the king and his household. Each man had to make provision for one month in the year. 8 These were their names: Ben-hur, in (I)the hill country of Ephraim; 9 Ben-deker, in Makaz, Shaalbim, Beth-shemesh, and Elonbeth-hanan; 10 Ben-hesed, in Arubboth (to him belonged Socoh and all the land of Hepher); 11 Ben-abinadab, in all (J)Naphath-dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as his wife); 12 Baana the son of Ahilud, in (K)Taanach, Megiddo, and all (L)Beth-shean that is beside Zarethan below Jezreel, and from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as the other side of Jokmeam; 13 Ben-geber, (M)in Ramoth-gilead (he had (N)the villages of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead, and he had (O)the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars); 14 Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim; 15 Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he had taken Basemath the daughter of Solomon as his wife); 16 Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth; 17 Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar; 18 (P)Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin; 19 Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, (Q)the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan. And there was one governor who was over the land.

Solomon's Wealth and Wisdom

20 Judah and Israel were as many (R)as the sand by the sea. They ate and drank and were happy. 21 [a] (S)Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the (T)Euphrates[b] to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt. (U)They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

22 Solomon's provision for one day was thirty cors[c] of fine flour and sixty cors of meal, 23 ten fat oxen, and twenty pasture-fed cattle, a hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened fowl. 24 For he had dominion over all the region west of the Euphrates[d] from Tiphsah to (V)Gaza, over all the kings west of the Euphrates. (W)And he had peace on all sides around him. 25 And Judah and Israel (X)lived in safety, (Y)from Dan even to Beersheba, (Z)every man under his vine and under his fig tree, all the days of Solomon. 26 (AA)Solomon also had 40,000[e] stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen. 27 And those officers supplied provisions for King Solomon, and for all who came to King Solomon's table, each one in his month. They let nothing be lacking. 28 Barley also and straw for the horses and (AB)swift steeds they brought to the place where it was required, each according to his duty.

29 (AC)And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind (AD)like the sand on the seashore, 30 so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all (AE)the people of the east (AF)and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 For he was (AG)wiser than all other men, wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol, and his fame was in all the surrounding nations. 32 (AH)He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, (AI)and his songs were 1,005. 33 He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the wall. He spoke also of beasts, and of birds, and of reptiles, and of fish. 34 And people of all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and from (AJ)all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.

Solomon’s Administration

4 So King Solomon was king over all Israel. 2 And these were his officials: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest; 3 Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, [a]scribes; (A)Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder; 4 (B)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, over the army; Zadok and (C)Abiathar, the priests; 5 Azariah the son of Nathan, over (D)the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan, (E)a priest and (F)the king’s friend; 6 Ahishar, over the household; and (G)Adoniram the son of Abda, over the labor force.

He was the only governor who was in the land.

Prosperity and Wisdom of Solomon’s Reign

20 Judah and Israel were as numerous (N)as the sand by the sea in multitude, (O)eating and drinking and rejoicing. 21 So (P)Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from (Q)the[g] River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. (R)They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

22 (S)Now Solomon’s [h]provision for one day was thirty [i]kors of fine flour, sixty kors of meal, 23 ten fatted oxen, twenty oxen from the pastures, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fatted fowl.

24 For he had dominion over all the region on this side of [j]the River from Tiphsah even to Gaza, namely over (T)all the kings on this side of the River; and (U)he had peace on every side all around him. 25 And Judah and Israel (V)dwelt[k] safely, (W)each man under his vine and his fig tree, (X)from Dan as far as Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

26 (Y)Solomon had [l]forty thousand stalls of (Z)horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. 27 And (AA)these governors, each man in his month, provided food for King Solomon and for all who came to King Solomon’s table. There was no lack in their supply. 28 They also brought barley and straw to the proper place, for the horses and steeds, each man according to his charge.

29 And (AB)God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore. 30 Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men (AC)of the East and all (AD)the wisdom of Egypt. 31 For he was (AE)wiser than all men—(AF)than Ethan the Ezrahite, (AG)and Heman, Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the surrounding nations. 32 (AH)He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his (AI)songs were one thousand and five. 33 Also he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree of Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, of birds, of creeping things, and of fish. 34 And men of all nations, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, (AJ)came to hear the wisdom of Solomon.

Solomon’s Power, Wealth, and Wisdom

29 Now (AJ)God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of [l]mind, (AK)like the sand that is on the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all (AL)the [m]people of the east and (AM)all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 For (AN)he was wiser than all other people, more than (AO)Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, (AP)Calcol, and [n]Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his [o]fame was known in all the surrounding nations. 32 (AQ)He also told three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered 1,005. 33 He told of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he told also of animals, birds, crawling things, and fish. 34 People (AR)came from all the [p]nations to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.

2 (A)Era bano be baali abakungu be:

Azaliya[a] muzzukulu wa Zadooki, yali kabona,

3 (B)Erikolefu ne Akiya, batabani ba Sisa, baali bawandiisi,

Yekosafaati mutabani wa Akirudi, yali mujjukiza,

4 (C)Benaya mutabani wa Yekoyaada, yali muduumizi w’eggye omukulu,

Zadooki ne Abiyasaali baali bakabona,

5 Azaliya mutabani wa Nasani, yali mukulu w’abaami,

22 Bye baasoloolezanga Sulemaani ebya buli lunaku byali ebigero by’obutta obulungi kilo mukaaga n’obutundu mukaaga, n’ebigero eby’obutta obutaali buse, kilo kumi na ssatu n’obutundu bubiri; 23 ente eza ssava kkumi, n’ente ezaavanga mu ddundiro amakumi abiri, wamu n’endiga kikumi, n’enjaza, n’empeewo, n’ennangaazi, n’enkoko ze baalondangamu. 24 (Q)Yafuganga ensi yonna eri emitala w’Omugga Fulaati, okuva e Tifusa[c] okutuuka e Gaaza, era yalina emirembe enjuuyi zonna okumwetooloola. 25 (R)Mu mirembe gya Sulemaani, Yuda ne Isirayiri yonna, okuva e Ddaani okutuuka e Beeruseba buli muntu yalina emirembe, era ng’alina ennimiro ye ey’emizabbibu n’ey’emitiini.

26 (S)Sulemaani yalina ebisibo by’embalaasi ezisika amagaali enkumi nnya, n’abasajja abeebagala embalaasi omutwalo gumu mu enkumi bbiri.

27 (T)Abaami ba masaza, buli mwezi baalabiriranga Kabaka Sulemaani wamu n’abaatuulanga ku mmeeza ye, nga bamuweereza ebyokulya. 28 Era baaleetanga sayiri n’essubi olw’embalaasi ez’embiro n’embalaasi endala, buli muntu ng’omulimu gwe bwe gwali gwe yalagirwa.

Amagezi ga Sulemaani

29 (U)Katonda n’awa Sulemaani amagezi n’okutegeera kungi nnyo n’obugunjufu bungi, ng’omusenyu oguli ku mabbali g’ennyanja. 30 (V)Amagezi ga Sulemaani gaali mangi nnyo okukira ag’abasajja bonna ab’ebuvanjuba[d], ate n’okusinga ago ag’e Misiri. 31 (W)Yali mugezi okukira abantu bonna, era n’okukira Esani Omwezulaki, ne Kemani, ne Kalukoli ne Daluda batabani ba Makoli, era erinnya lye ne lyatiikirira mu mawanga gonna ageetoolodde. 32 (X)Yagera engero enkumi ssatu, n’ennyimba ze zaali lukumi mu ttaano. 33 Yayogera ku bulamu bwe bimera, okuva ku muvule gwa Lebanooni okutuuka ku ezobu amera ku bbugwe. Ate era yayogera ne ku nsolo n’ennyonyi, n’ebyewalula n’ebyennyanja. 34 (Y)Era abantu bangi okuva mu mawanga gonna ne bajjanga okuwuliriza amagezi ga Sulemaani, nga batumiddwa bakabaka okuva mu nsi yonna, abaali bawulidde ku magezi ge.
