22 And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3 And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
4 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
5 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the Lord to day.
6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might enquire of him?
8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
9 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the son of Imlah.
10 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the Lord, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.
12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the king's hand.
13 And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.
14 And Micaiah said, As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak.
15 So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord?
17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the Lord said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
18 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
19 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20 And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him.
22 And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
23 Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.
24 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak unto thee?
25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
27 And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
28 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
34 And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
35 And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.
36 And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38 And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the Lord which he spake.
39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
41 And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43 And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the Lord: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
44 And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.
47 There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.
48 Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.
49 Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
50 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.
52 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
53 For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the Lord God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

Micaiah Warns Ahab(A)
22 Now three years passed without war between Syria and Israel. 2 Then it came to pass, in the third year, that (B)Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went down to visit the king of Israel.
3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that (C)Ramoth in Gilead is ours, but we hesitate to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?” 4 So he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight at Ramoth Gilead?”
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, (D)“I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 5 Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, (E)“Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”
6 Then the king of Israel (F)gathered [a]the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to fight, or shall I refrain?”
So they said, “Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
7 And (G)Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of [b]Him?”
8 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.”
And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”
9 Then the king of Israel called an officer and said, “Bring Micaiah the son of Imlah quickly!”
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, having put on their robes, sat each on his throne, at a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. 11 Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made (H)horns of iron for himself; and he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘With these you shall (I)gore the Syrians until they are destroyed.’ ” 12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king’s hand.”
13 Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Please, let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement.”
14 And Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, (J)whatever the Lord says to me, that I will speak.”
15 Then he came to the king; and the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall we refrain?”
And he answered him, “Go and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king!”
16 So the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?”
17 Then he said, “I saw all Israel (K)scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.’ ”
18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
19 Then Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the Lord: (L)I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, (M)and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left. 20 And the Lord said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ 22 The Lord said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the Lord said, (N)‘You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 23 (O)Therefore look! The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you.”
24 Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and (P)struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, (Q)“Which way did the spirit from the Lord go from me to speak to you?”
25 And Micaiah said, “Indeed, you shall see on that day when you go into an (R)inner chamber to hide!”
26 So the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son; 27 and say, ‘Thus says the king: “Put this fellow in (S)prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I come in peace.” ’ ”
28 But Micaiah said, “If you ever return in peace, (T)the Lord has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Take heed, all you people!”
Ahab Dies in Battle(U)
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel (V)disguised himself and went into battle.
31 Now the (W)king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two (X)captains of his chariots, saying, “Fight with no one small or great, but only with the king of Israel.” 32 So it was, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, “Surely it is the king of Israel!” Therefore they turned aside to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat (Y)cried out. 33 And it happened, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 34 Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am wounded.”
35 The battle increased that day; and the king was propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out from the wound onto the floor of the chariot. 36 Then, as the sun was going down, a shout went throughout the army, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his own country!”
37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria. And they buried the king in Samaria. 38 Then someone washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood while [c]the harlots bathed, according (Z)to the word of the Lord which He had spoken.
39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, (AA)the ivory house which he built and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 40 So Ahab [d]rested with his fathers. Then (AB)Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah(AC)
41 (AD)Jehoshaphat the son of Asa had become king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 43 And (AE)he walked in all the ways of his father Asa. He did not turn aside from them, doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord. 48 (AL)Jehoshaphat (AM)made [f]merchant ships to go to (AN)Ophir for gold; (AO)but they never sailed, for the ships were wrecked at (AP)Ezion Geber. 49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not.
50 And (AQ)Jehoshaphat [g]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David his father. Then Jehoram his son reigned in his place.
Ahaziah Reigns in Israel
51 (AR)Ahaziah the son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel. 52 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and (AS)walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin; 53 for (AT)he served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger, (AU)according[h] to all that his father had done.

Micaías profetiza contra Acab(A)
22 Durante tres años no hubo guerra entre Siria e Israel. 2 Pero en el tercer año Josafat, rey de Judá, fue a ver al rey de Israel, 3 el cual dijo a sus funcionarios: «¿No sabéis que Ramot de Galaad nos pertenece? ¡Y no hemos hecho nada para obligar al rey de Siria a que nos la devuelva!»
4 Así que le preguntó a Josafat:
―¿Irías conmigo a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad?
Josafat le respondió al rey de Israel:
―Estoy a tu disposición, lo mismo que mi pueblo y mis caballos. 5 Pero, antes que nada, consultemos al Señor —añadió.
6 Así que el rey de Israel reunió a los profetas, que eran casi cuatrocientos, y les preguntó:
―¿Debo ir a la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad, o no?
―Ve —contestaron ellos—, porque el Señor la entregará en tus manos.
7 Pero Josafat inquirió:
―¿No hay aquí un profeta del Señor a quien podamos consultar?
8 El rey de Israel le respondió:
―Todavía hay alguien por medio de quien podemos consultar al Señor, pero me cae muy mal porque nunca me profetiza nada bueno; solo me anuncia desastres. Se trata de Micaías hijo de Imlá.
―No digas eso —replicó Josafat.
9 Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a uno de sus funcionarios y le ordenó:
―¡Traed de inmediato a Micaías hijo de Imlá!
10 El rey de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, vestidos con su ropaje real y sentados en sus respectivos tronos, estaban en la plaza a la entrada de Samaria, con todos los que profetizaban en presencia de ellos. 11 Sedequías hijo de Quenaná, que se había hecho unos cuernos de hierro, anunció: «Así dice el Señor: “Con estos cuernos atacarás a los sirios hasta aniquilarlos”». 12 Y los demás profetas vaticinaban lo mismo: «Ataca a Ramot de Galaad, y vencerás, porque el Señor la entregará en tus manos».
13 Ahora bien, el mensajero que había ido a llamar a Micaías le advirtió:
―Mira, los demás profetas a una voz predicen el éxito del rey. Habla favorablemente, para que tu mensaje concuerde con el de ellos.
14 Pero Micaías repuso:
―Tan cierto como que vive el Señor, ten la seguridad de que yo le anunciaré al rey lo que el Señor me diga.
15 Cuando compareció ante el rey, este le preguntó:
―Micaías, ¿debemos ir a la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad, o no?
―Ataca, que vencerás —contestó él—, porque el Señor la entregará en tus manos.
16 El rey le reconvino:
―¿Cuántas veces debo hacerte jurar que no me digas nada más que la verdad en el nombre del Señor?
17 Ante esto, Micaías respondió:
―Vi a todo Israel esparcido por las colinas, como ovejas sin pastor. Y el Señor dijo: “Esta gente no tiene amo. ¡Que cada cual se vaya a su casa en paz!”
18 El rey de Israel le dijo a Josafat:
―¿No te dije que jamás me profetiza nada bueno, y que solo me anuncia desastres?
19 Micaías prosiguió:
―Por lo tanto, oye la palabra del Señor: Vi al Señor sentado en su trono con todo el ejército del cielo alrededor de él, a su derecha y a su izquierda. 20 Y el Señor dijo: “¿Quién inducirá a Acab para que ataque a Ramot de Galaad y vaya a morir allí?” Uno sugería una cosa, y otro sugería otra. 21 Por último, un espíritu se adelantó, se puso delante del Señor y dijo: “Yo le induciré”. 22 “¿Por qué medios?”, preguntó el Señor. Y aquel espíritu respondió: “Saldré y seré un espíritu mentiroso en la boca de todos sus profetas”. Entonces el Señor ordenó: “Ve y hazlo así, que tendrás éxito en inducirlo”. 23 Así que ahora el Señor ha puesto un espíritu mentiroso en la boca de todos tus profetas. El Señor ha decretado el mal para ti.
24 Al oír esto, Sedequías hijo de Quenaná se levantó y le dio una bofetada a Micaías.
―¿Por dónde se fue el espíritu[a] del Señor cuando salió de mí para hablarte? —le preguntó.
25 Micaías contestó:
―Lo sabrás el día en que andes de escondite en escondite.
26 Entonces el rey de Israel ordenó:
―Tomad a Micaías y llevádselo a Amón, el gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joás, mi hijo. 27 Decidles que les ordeno echar en la cárcel a ese tipo, y no darle más que pan y agua, hasta que yo regrese sin contratiempos.
28 Micaías manifestó:
―Si regresas sin contratiempos, el Señor no ha hablado por medio de mí. ¡Tomad nota todos vosotros de lo que estoy diciendo!
Muerte de Acab(B)
29 El rey de Israel, y Josafat, rey de Judá, marcharon juntos contra Ramot de Galaad. 30 Allí el rey de Israel le dijo a Josafat: «Yo entraré en la batalla disfrazado, pero tú te pondrás tu ropaje real». Así que el rey de Israel se disfrazó y entró en el combate.
31 Pero el rey de Siria les había ordenado a sus treinta y dos capitanes de los carros de combate: «No luchéis contra nadie, grande o pequeño, salvo contra el rey de Israel». 32 Cuando los capitanes de los carros vieron a Josafat, pensaron: «Sin duda, este es el rey de Israel». Así que se volvieron para atacarlo; pero Josafat gritó. 33 Entonces los capitanes de los carros vieron que no era el rey de Israel, y dejaron de perseguirlo.
34 Sin embargo, alguien disparó su arco al azar e hirió al rey de Israel entre las piezas de su armadura. El rey le ordenó al que conducía su carro: «Da la vuelta y sácame del campo de batalla, pues me han herido». 35 Todo el día arreció la batalla, y al rey se le mantuvo de pie en su carro, frente a los sirios. Pero la sangre de su herida no dejaba de correr por la plataforma del carro, y esa misma tarde Acab murió. 36 Ya se ponía el sol cuando por todo el ejército se difundió un clamor: «Cada hombre a su ciudad; ¡todo el mundo a su tierra!»
37 Así que el rey murió, y fue llevado a Samaria, donde lo sepultaron. 38 Lavaron el carro en un estanque de Samaria, donde se bañaban las prostitutas, y los perros lamieron la sangre, tal como lo había declarado la palabra del Señor.
39 Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Acab, incluso todo lo que hizo, el palacio que construyó e incrustó de marfil, y las ciudades que fortificó, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel. 40 Acab murió, y su hijo Ocozías le sucedió en el trono.
Josafat, rey de Judá(C)
41 Josafat hijo de Asá ascendió al trono de Judá en el cuarto año de Acab, rey de Israel. 42 Josafat tenía treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén veinticinco años. El nombre de su madre era Azuba hija de Siljí. 43 Siempre siguió el buen ejemplo de su padre Asá, y nunca se desvió de él, sino que hizo lo que agrada al Señor. Sin embargo, no se quitaron los santuarios paganos, de modo que el pueblo siguió ofreciendo allí sacrificios e incienso quemado. 44 Josafat también vivió en paz con el rey de Israel.
45 Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Josafat, lo que llevó a cabo y sus proezas militares, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá. 46 Libró la tierra del resto de los hombres que practicaban la prostitución en los santuarios, los cuales se habían quedado allí incluso después del reinado de su padre Asá. 47 En aquel tiempo no había rey en Edom, sino que gobernaba un regente.
48 Por esos días Josafat construyó una flota mercante[b] para ir a Ofir por oro, pero nunca llegaron a zarpar, pues naufragaron en Ezión Guéber. 49 Entonces Ocozías hijo de Acab le dijo a Josafat: «Deja que mis hombres naveguen con tus hombres». Pero Josafat no se lo permitió.
50 Josafat murió y fue sepultado con sus antepasados en la ciudad de su padre David. Y su hijo Jorán le sucedió en el trono.
Ocozías, rey de Israel
51 Ocozías hijo de Acab ascendió al trono de Israel en Samaria en el año diecisiete de Josafat, rey de Judá, y reinó dos años en Israel. 52 Pero hizo lo que ofende al Señor, porque anduvo en los caminos de su padre y de su madre, y en los caminos de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, que hizo que Israel pecara. 53 Sirvió y adoró a Baal, y provocó a ira al Señor, Dios de Israel, tal como había hecho su padre.
