The call of Elisha
19 So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. ‘Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,’ he said, ‘and then I will come with you.’
‘Go back,’ Elijah replied. ‘What have I done to you?’
21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the ploughing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.

19 그래서 엘리야는 가서 사밧의 아들 엘리사를 만났는데 그는 열두 겨리의 소로 밭을 갈고 있었다. 그때 엘리야가 그에게 가까이 가서 자기 겉옷을 벗어 엘리사에게 던지자
20 엘리사는 자기 소를 버려 두고 엘리야에게 달려가 말하였다. “먼저 가서 내 부모에게 인사나 하고 오게 해 주십시오. 그 후에 내가 당신을 따르겠습니다.” 그러자 엘리야는 “좋다. 갔다오너라. 내가 너를 말리지 않겠다” 하고 대답하였다.
21 그래서 엘리사는 돌아가서 소 두 마리를 잡고 그 소의 도구로 고기를 삶아 사람들에게 나누어 주어 먹게 한 다음 엘리야를 따라가서 그의 제자가 되었다.

51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, ‘Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them[a]?’ 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.
The cost of following Jesus
57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’
58 Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
59 He said to another man, ‘Follow me.’
But he replied, ‘Lord, first let me go and bury my father.’
60 Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.’
61 Still another said, ‘I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.’
62 Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts a hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’

51 예수님은 하늘로 올라가실 때가 가까워지자 예루살렘으로 갈 것을 굳게 결심하시고
52 사자들을 앞서 보내셨다. 그들은 가다가 예수님을 위해 준비하려고 사마리아 사람의 마을로 들어갔다.
53 그러나 그 마을 사람들은 예수님이 예루살렘을 향해 가시는 길이었기 때문에 그를 영접하지 않았다.
54 야고보와 요한은 이것을 보고 예수님께 “주님, [a]하늘에서 불을 내려다가 이 사람들을 태워 버리는 것이 어떻겠습니까?” 하고 물었으나
55 [b]예수님은 그들을 꾸짖으시고
56 함께 다른 마을로 가셨다.
57 그들이 가는 도중에 어떤 사람이 예수님께 와서 “저는 선생님이 어디로 가시든지 따라가겠습니다” 하였다.
58 그래서 예수님은 그에게 “여우도 굴이 있고 공중의 새도 보금자리가 있으나 나는 머리 둘 곳이 없다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
59 예수님이 또 다른 사람에게 “나를 따르라” 하고 말씀하시자 그는 “먼저 제 아버지의 장례를 치르도록 허락해 주십시오” 하였다.
60 그러나 예수님은 그에게 “죽은 사람의 장례는 [c]영적으로 죽은 사람들이 하게 버려 두고 너는 가서 하나님의 나라를 전파하라” 하고 말씀하셨다.
61 또 다른 사람이 “제가 주님을 따르겠습니다. 그러나 먼저 가족에게 작별 인사를 하게 해 주십시오” 하자
62 예수님은 그에게 “쟁기를 잡고 뒤를 돌아보는 사람은 하나님의 나라에 적당치 않다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
