17 1 Elijah forewarneth of the famine to come. 4 He is fed of Ravens. 9 He is sent to Zarephath, where he restoreth his hostess’s son to life.
1 And Elijah the Tishbite one of the inhabitants of Gilead said unto Ahab, (A)As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I [a]stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, but [b]according to my word.
2 ¶ And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Go hence, and turn thee Eastward, and hide thyself in the [c]river Cherith, that is over against Jordan,
4 And thou shalt drink of the river: and I have commanded the [d]ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went, and remained by the river Cherith that is over against Jordan
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and he drank of the river.
7 And after a while the river dried up, because there fell no rain upon the earth.
8 ¶ And the [e]word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 (B)Up, and get thee to Zarephath, which is in Sidon, and remain there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath: and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there [f]gathering sticks: and he called her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but even an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and behold, I am gathering [g]a few sticks for to go in, and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and [h]die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not, come do as thou hast said, but make me thereof a little cake first of all, and bring it unto me, and afterward make for thee and thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, [i]The meal in the barrel shall not be wasted, neither shall the oil in the cruse be diminished, unto the time that the Lord send rain upon the earth.
15 So she went, and did as Elijah said, and she did eat: so did he and her house [j]for a certain time.
16 The barrel of the meal wasted not, nor the oil was spent out of the cruse, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by the hand of Elijah.
17 ¶ And after these things, the son of the wife of the house fell sick, and his sickness was so sore, [k]that there was no [l]breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son: and he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a chamber, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 Then he called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou [m]punished also this widow, with whom I sojourn, by killing her son?
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.
22 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother, and Elijah said, Behold, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said unto Elijah, Now [n]I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is true.

17 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.

2 Luego Dios le dijo a Elías: 3 «Vete de aquí, y escóndete en el arroyo Querit, que está al este del río Jordán. 4 Así tendrás agua para beber. Yo le he ordenado a los cuervos que te lleven comida».

Una viuda le da comida a Elías
8 Entonces Dios le dijo a Elías: 9 «Ve a Sarepta, pueblo de la región de Sidón, y quédate a vivir ahí. Yo le he ordenado a una viuda que te alimente».
10 Elías se levantó y se fue. Cuando llegó a Sarepta vio a una viuda que estaba juntando leña. Entonces la llamó y le dijo:
—Por favor, tráeme un poco de agua en un vaso.
11 Cuando la viuda se volvió para traérselo, él le dijo:
—Tráeme también un poco de pan.
12 Pero la mujer le dijo:
—Te juro por Dios que no tengo pan. Sólo tengo un poco de harina en una jarra y un poco de aceite en una botella. Ahora estoy juntando leña para ver qué preparo para mi hijo y para mí. Después de comer probablemente moriremos de hambre, pues ya no tenemos más comida.
13 Entonces Elías le contestó:
—No tengas miedo. Ve y haz lo que has dicho. Pero primero cocina un pequeño pan para mí y tráemelo. Después prepara pan para ti y para tu hijo, 14 pues el Dios de Israel dijo que no se terminará la harina que está en la jarra ni el aceite que tienes en la botella hasta que él haga llover otra vez.
15 La mujer fue e hizo lo que Elías le dijo, y tanto ella como su hijo y Elías tuvieron comida durante muchos días. 16 Ni la harina de la jarra ni el aceite de la botella se acabaron. Así se cumplió lo que Dios había dicho por medio de Elías.
17 Un poco después, el hijo de la viuda se enfermó. Su enfermedad era tan grave que dejó de respirar. 18 Entonces la mujer le dijo a Elías:
—Profeta, ¿qué tienes en mi contra? ¿Has venido a recordarme mis pecados y a castigarme con la muerte de mi hijo?
19 Entonces Elías le contestó:
—Dame a tu hijo.
Elías tomó al niño del regazo de la viuda, lo llevó a su propia habitación, y lo acostó sobre su cama. 20 Luego le rogó a Dios en voz alta: «Dios mío, ¿cómo puedes traer tal desgracia sobre esta viuda, que me recibió en su casa? ¡No dejes morir a ese niño!»
21 Luego de haber dicho esto, Elías se tendió tres veces sobre el cuerpo del niño y en voz alta le rogó a Dios: «¡Dios mío, Dios mío, devuélvele la vida a este niño!»
22 Dios escuchó la oración de Elías, y el niño volvió a vivir. 23 Entonces Elías tomó al niño, lo bajó del primer piso, se lo entregó a su madre y le dijo:
—Mira, tu hijo vive.
24 La mujer le contestó:
—Ahora sé que de veras eres profeta de Dios, y que tus mensajes vienen de él.

Elia och änkan i Sarefat
8 Då kom Herrens ord till Elia. Han sade: 9 "Stig upp och gå till Sarefat, som hör till Sidon, och stanna där. Se, jag har befallt en änka där att ge dig att äta." 10 Han steg upp och gick till Sarefat. När han kom till stadsporten, fick han där se en änka som samlade ved. Då ropade han till henne: "Hämta lite vatten åt mig i kärlet, så att jag får dricka." 11 När hon gick för att hämta det, ropade han efter henne: "Tag också med dig en bit bröd åt mig." 12 Men hon svarade: "Så sant Herren, din Gud, lever, jag har inte en kaka bröd, utan bara en näve mjöl i krukan och litet olja i kannan. Jag håller just på att samla ihop ett par vedpinnar och skall nu gå hem och laga till det åt mig och min son. Vi skall äta det och sedan dö."
13 Då sade Elia till henne: "Var inte rädd. Gå och gör som du har sagt. Men laga först till en liten kaka åt mig och bär ut den till mig. Laga sedan till åt dig och din son. 14 Ty så säger Herren, Israels Gud: Mjölet i krukan skall inte ta slut, och olja skall inte fattas i kannan fram till den dag då Herren låter det regna på jorden." 15 Då gick hon och gjorde som Elia hade sagt. Hon hade sedan att äta en lång tid, hon själv och han och hennes husfolk. 16 Mjölet i krukan tog inte slut och olja fattades inte i kannan enligt det ord som Herren hade talat genom Elia.
