Elijah Stops the Rain
17 Now Elijah the Tishbite was a prophet from the settlers in Gilead. “I ·serve [L stand before] the Lord, the God of Israel,” Elijah said to Ahab. “As surely as the Lord lives, no dew or rain will fall during the next few years ·unless I command it [except by my word; C the people were worshiping the false god Baal whom they believed brought rain].”
2 Then the ·Lord spoke his word [word of the Lord came] to Elijah: 3 “Leave this place and go east and hide near Kerith ·Ravine [Brook; Wadi] east of the Jordan River. 4 Drink from the stream, and I have ·commanded [ordered] ravens to bring you food there.” 5 So Elijah did ·what the Lord said [L according to the word of the Lord]; he went to Kerith ·Ravine [Brook; Wadi], east of the Jordan, and lived there. 6 The ·birds [ravens] brought Elijah bread and meat every morning and evening, and he drank water from the stream.
7 After a while the stream dried up because there was no rain in the land. 8 Then the ·Lord spoke his word to Elijah [L word of the Lord came to him], 9 “Go to Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I have commanded a widow there to ·take care of [provide for; feed] you.”
10 So Elijah went to Zarephath. When he reached the town gate, he saw a widow gathering ·wood for a fire [sticks]. Elijah asked her, “·Would you [Please] bring me a little water in a ·cup [jar; pitcher] so I may have a drink?” 11 As she was going to get his water, Elijah said, “Please bring me a ·piece [scrap] of bread [L in your hand].”
12 The woman answered, “As surely as the Lord your God lives, I have no bread. I have only a handful of flour in a ·jar [bowl] and only a little olive oil in a jug. I came here to gather some wood so I could go home and cook our last meal. My son and I will eat it and then die [C of hunger].”
13 “Don’t ·worry [be afraid],” Elijah said to her. “Go home and cook your food as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread from the flour you have, and bring it to me. Then cook something for yourself and your son. 14 The Lord, the God of Israel, says, ‘That jar of flour will never be ·empty [spent; used up], and the jug will ·always have oil in it [not run dry/fail/be empty], until the day the Lord sends rain to the land.’”
15 So the woman went home and did what Elijah told her to do. And the woman and her ·son and Elijah [family; L household] had enough food ·every day [L for many days]. 16 The ·jar [bowl] of flour and the jug of oil were never empty, ·just as the Lord, through Elijah, had promised [L according to the word of the Lord, spoken through Elijah].
Elijah Brings a Boy Back to Life
17 ·Some time later [L After these things] the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. He grew worse and worse and finally ·stopped breathing [died; L there remained no breath in him]. 18 The woman said to Elijah, “Man of God, what ·have you done to me [do you have against me; L to me and to you]? Did you come here to ·remind me of [reveal; point out] my sin and to kill my son?”
19 Elijah said to her, “Give me your son.” Elijah took the boy from ·her [her arms/lap/L bosom], carried him upstairs, and laid him on the bed in the room where he was staying. 20 Then he prayed to the Lord: “Lord my God, this widow is letting me stay in her house. Why have you ·done this terrible thing [brought tragedy/calamity] to her and caused her son to die?” 21 Then Elijah ·lay on top of [stretched himself on] the boy three times. He prayed to the Lord, “Lord my God, let this ·boy live again [boy’s life/breath/soul return to him]!”
22 The Lord ·answered [heard] Elijah’s ·prayer [cry; L voice]; the ·boy began breathing again [boy’s life/breath/soul returned to him] and ·was alive [revived]. 23 Elijah carried the boy downstairs and gave him to his mother and said, “See! Your son is alive!”
24 “Now I know you really are a man from God,” the woman said to Elijah. “I know that the ·Lord truly speaks through you [L word of the Lord in your mouth is true]!”

17 (A)Awo Eriya Omutisubi ow’e Tisubi mu Gireyaadi, n’agamba Akabu nti, “Mukama Katonda wa Isirayiri gwe mpeereza nga bw’ali omulamu, tewaabe musulo newaakubadde enkuba mu myaka egijja wabula olw’ekigambo kyange.”
2 Awo ekigambo kya Mukama ne kijjira Eriya nga kigamba nti, 3 “Vva wano ogende ebuvanjuba weekweke ku kagga Kerisi akoolekera Yoludaani. 4 (B)Ojja kunywanga mu kagga, era ndagidde bannamuŋŋoona okukuliisiza eyo.”
5 N’akola nga Mukama bwe yamulagira, n’alaga ku kagga Kerisi, akoolekera Yoludaani, n’abeera eyo. 6 (C)Bannamuŋŋoona ne bamuleeteranga emmere n’ennyama buli nkya na buli kawungeezi, era n’anywanga mu kagga.
Nnamwandu ow’e Zalefaasi
7 Bwe waayitawo ebbanga, akagga ne kakalira olw’obutabaawo nkuba mu nsi. 8 Awo ekigambo kya Mukama ne kimujjira nga kigamba nti, 9 (D)“Situkiramu ogende e Zalefaasi ekya Sidoni obeere eyo. Ndagidde nnamwandu ali eyo okukuwanga emmere.” 10 (E)Awo n’agolokoka n’alaga e Zalefaasi. Bwe yatuuka ku wankaaki w’ekibuga, waliwo nnamwandu eyali alondalonda obuku. Eriya n’amusaba ng’agamba nti, “Nkwegayiridde, ndeetera ku mazzi matono mu kibya nnyweko.” 11 Bwe yali ng’agenda okugakima, Eriya n’amukoowoola ng’agamba nti, “Nkwegayiridde, ndeeteraayo n’omugaati.” 12 (F)N’addamu nti, “Mukama nga bw’ali omulamu, sirina mugaati okuggyako olubatu lw’obutta mu kibya n’otufuta mu kasumbi, era kaakano nkuŋŋaanya buku mbutwale eka neefumbire nze n’omwana wange tubulye tufe.”
13 Eriya n’amugamba nti, “Totya. Genda eka okole nga bw’ogambye. Naye sooka onfumbire akagaati, okuva mu by’olina okandeteere, oluvannyuma weefumbire ggwe n’omwana wo. 14 Kubanga kino Mukama Katonda wa Isirayiri ky’agamba nti, ‘Ekibya ky’obutta tekiriggwaamu, so n’akasumbi k’amafuta tekalikalira okutuusa olunaku Mukama lw’alitonyesa enkuba ku nsi.’ ”
15 N’agenda n’akola nga Eriya bwe yamugamba, era ne waba emmere bulijjo eya Eriya ne nnamwandu n’amaka ge. 16 Ekibya ky’obutta tekyakendeera wadde akasumbi k’amafuta okukalira, ng’ekigambo kya Mukama kye yayogerera mu Eriya bwe kyali.
17 Bwe waayitawo ebbanga, omwana wa nnamwandu n’alwala nnyo, obulwadde ne bweyongera okutuusa lwe yafa. 18 (G)Nnamwandu n’agamba Eriya nti, “Kiki ky’onnanga, omusajja wa Katonda? Wajja okunzijukiza ekibi kyange n’okutta omwana wange?”
19 Eriya n’amuddamu nti, “Mpa omwana wo.” N’amuggya mu kifuba kye, n’amusitula n’amutwala mu kisenge ekya waggulu[a] gye yabeeranga, n’amugalamiza ku kitanda kye. 20 N’akoowoola Mukama ng’agamba nti, “Ayi Mukama Katonda wange, ne nnamwandu ono gwe mbeera naye omuleeseko ekikangabwa kino, n’otta omwana we?” 21 (H)Eriya ne yeegololera ku mulenzi emirundi esatu, n’akaabira Mukama ng’agamba nti, “Ayi Mukama Katonda wange, obulamu bw’omulenzi ono bukomewo nate!”
22 Mukama n’awulira okukaaba kwa Eriya, obulamu bw’omulenzi ne bumuddamu, era n’alama. 23 Awo Eriya n’asitula omwana n’amuserengesa okuva mu kisenge n’amuleeta mu nnyumba, n’amuwa nnyina, n’amugamba nti, “Laba mutabani wo mulamu!”
24 (I)Awo nnamwandu n’agamba Eriya nti, “Kaakano ntegedde ng’oli musajja wa Katonda, era n’ekigambo kya Mukama ekiva mu kamwa ko kiba kya mazima.”

Elijah Proclaims a Drought
17 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the (A)inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, (B)“As the Lord God of Israel lives, (C)before whom I stand, (D)there shall not be dew nor rain (E)these years, except at my word.”
2 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 3 “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 4 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the (F)ravens to feed you there.”
5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. 7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
Elijah and the Widow
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to (G)Zarephath, which belongs to (H)Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12 So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a [a]jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and (I)die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ”
15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.
Elijah Revives the Widow’s Son
17 Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so [b]serious that [c]there was no breath left in him. 18 So she said to Elijah, (J)“What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”
19 And he said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. 20 Then he cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?” 21 (K)And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him.” 22 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he (L)revived.
23 And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, “See, your son lives!”
24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this (M)I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”

2 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
