14 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick. 2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, who spake concerning me that I should be king over this people. 3 And take with thee ten loaves, and cakes, and a [a]cruse of honey, and go to him: he will tell thee what shall become of the child. 4 And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age. 5 And Jehovah said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to inquire of thee concerning her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her; for it will be, when she cometh in, that she will feign herself to be another woman.

6 And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee [b]prince over my people Israel, 8 and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee; and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes, 9 but hast done evil above all that were before thee, and hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back: 10 therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every man-child, him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweepeth away dung, till it be all gone. 11 Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat: for Jehovah hath spoken it. 12 Arise thou therefore, get thee to thy house: and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die. 13 And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. 14 Moreover Jehovah will raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: [c]but what? even now. 15 For Jehovah will smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking Jehovah to anger. 16 And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, [d]which he hath sinned, and wherewith he hath made Israel to sin.

17 And Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. 18 And all Israel buried him, and mourned for him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. 20 And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.

21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there: and his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. 22 And Judah did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built them high places, and [e]pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every green tree; 24 and there were also sodomites in the land: they did according to all the abominations of the nations which Jehovah drove out before the children of Israel.

25 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; 26 and he took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king’s house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made. 27 And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the [f]guard, who kept the door of the king’s house. 28 And it was so, that, as oft as the king went into the house of Jehovah, the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.

29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. 31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And [g]Abijam his son reigned in his stead.

Profecía de Ahías contra Jeroboán

14 En aquel tiempo se enfermó Abías, hijo de Jeroboán, 2 y este dijo a su esposa: «Disfrázate para que nadie se dé cuenta de que eres mi esposa. Luego vete a Siló, donde está Ahías, el profeta que me anunció que yo sería rey de este pueblo. 3 Llévate diez panes, algunas tortas y un jarro de miel. Cuando llegues, él te dirá lo que va a pasar con nuestro hijo». 4 Así que la esposa de Jeroboán emprendió el viaje a Siló y fue a casa de Ahías.

Debido a su edad, Ahías había perdido la vista y estaba ciego. 5 Pero el Señor le había dicho: «La esposa de Jeroboán, haciéndose pasar por otra, viene a pedirte información acerca de su hijo, que está enfermo. Quiero que le des tal y tal respuesta».

6 Así que cuando Ahías oyó el sonido de sus pasos, se dirigió a la puerta y dijo: «Esposa de Jeroboán, ¿por qué te haces pasar por otra? Entra, que tengo malas noticias para ti. 7 Regresa adonde está Jeroboán y adviértele que así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Yo te levanté de entre mi pueblo Israel y te hice su gobernante. 8 Le quité el reino a la familia de David para dártelo a ti. Tú, sin embargo, no has sido como mi siervo David, que cumplió mis mandamientos y me siguió con todo el corazón, haciendo solamente lo que me agrada. 9 Por el contrario, te has portado peor que todos los que vivieron antes de ti, al extremo de hacerte otros dioses, ídolos de metal; esto me enfurece, pues me has dado la espalda.

10 »”Por eso voy a enviarle una desgracia a la familia de Jeroboán. De sus descendientes en Israel exterminaré hasta el último varón,[a] esclavo o libre. Barreré la descendencia de Jeroboán como se barre el estiércol, hasta no dejar rastro. 11 A los que mueran en la ciudad se los comerán los perros y a los que mueran en el campo se los comerán las aves del cielo. ¡El Señor lo ha dicho!”.

12 »En cuanto a ti, vuelve a tu casa; el muchacho va a morir en cuanto llegues a la ciudad. 13 Entonces todos los israelitas harán duelo por él y lo sepultarán. De la familia de Jeroboán solo él será sepultado, porque en esa familia solo él ha complacido al Señor, Dios de Israel.

14 »El Señor levantará para sí un rey en Israel que exterminará a la familia de Jeroboán. De ahora en adelante[b] 15 el Señor sacudirá a los israelitas como el agua sacude las cañas. Los desarraigará de esta buena tierra que dio a sus antepasados y los dispersará más allá del río Éufrates, porque se hicieron imágenes de la diosa Aserá y provocaron así la ira del Señor. 16 Y él abandonará a Israel por los pecados que Jeroboán cometió e hizo cometer a los israelitas».

17 Entonces la esposa de Jeroboán se puso en marcha y regresó a Tirsá. En el momento en que atravesó el umbral de la casa, el muchacho murió. 18 Así que lo sepultaron y todo Israel hizo duelo por él, según la palabra que el Señor había anunciado por medio de su siervo, el profeta Ahías.

19 Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Jeroboán, sus batallas y su gobierno, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel. 20 Jeroboán reinó veintidós años. Cuando murió, su hijo Nadab lo sucedió en el trono.

Roboán, rey de Judá(A)

21 Roboán, hijo de Salomón, fue rey de Judá. Tenía cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar. Reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad donde, de entre todas las tribus de Israel, el Señor había decidido poner su Nombre. La madre de Roboán era una amonita llamada Noamá.

22 Los habitantes de Judá hicieron lo malo ante el Señor, y con sus pecados provocaron los celos del Señor más que sus antepasados. 23 Además, en todas las colinas y bajo todo árbol frondoso se construyeron altares paganos, piedras sagradas e imágenes de la diosa Aserá. 24 Incluso había en el país hombres que practicaban la prostitución sagrada. El pueblo participaba en todas las repugnantes ceremonias de las naciones que el Señor había expulsado del territorio de los israelitas.

25 Sisac, rey de Egipto, atacó a Jerusalén en el quinto año del reinado de Roboán, 26 y se llevó los tesoros del Templo del Señor y del palacio real. Se lo llevó todo, aun los escudos de oro que Salomón había hecho. 27 Para reemplazarlos, el rey Roboán mandó hacer escudos de bronce y los puso al cuidado de los comandantes de la guardia que custodiaba la entrada del palacio real. 28 Siempre que el rey iba al Templo del Señor, los guardias portaban los escudos, pero luego los devolvían a la sala de los centinelas.

29 Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Roboán y todo lo que hizo, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá. 30 Durante su reinado hubo guerra constante entre él y Jeroboán. 31 Cuando murió Roboán, hijo de la amonita llamada Noamá, fue sepultado con sus antepasados en la Ciudad de David; su hijo Abías[c] lo sucedió en el trono.

14 Por aquel tiempo Abías, hijo de Jeroboam, se enfermó. 2 Y Jeroboam dijo a su mujer: Levántate ahora y disfrázate(A) para que no conozcan que eres la mujer de Jeroboam, y ve a Silo(B); he aquí, allí está el profeta Ahías, que dijo de mí que yo sería rey sobre este pueblo(C). 3 Toma en tus manos diez panes(D), tortas y un jarro de miel, y ve a él. Él te dirá lo que le ha de suceder al niño. 4 Así lo hizo la mujer de Jeroboam; se levantó, fue a Silo(E) y llegó a casa de Ahías(F). Y Ahías no podía ver porque sus ojos se habían nublado[a] a causa de su vejez(G). 5 Mas el Señor había dicho a Ahías: He aquí, la mujer de Jeroboam viene a consultarte[b] sobre su hijo, pues está enfermo. Esto y esto le dirás, pues será que cuando ella venga, fingirá ser otra mujer(H).

6 Y sucedió que cuando Ahías oyó el ruido de los pasos de ella al entrar por la puerta, dijo: Entra, mujer de Jeroboam. ¿Por qué finges ser otra mujer? Pues he sido enviado a ti con un duro mensaje. 7 Ve, di a Jeroboam: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Por cuanto te levanté de entre el pueblo y te hice príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel(I), 8 y arranqué el reino de la casa de David y te lo di a ti(J), pero tú no has sido como mi siervo David, que guardó mis mandamientos y me siguió de todo corazón, para hacer solo lo que era recto a mis ojos(K); 9 sino que has hecho más mal que todos los que fueron antes de ti, y fuiste e hiciste para ti otros dioses(L) e imágenes fundidas(M) para provocarme a ira, y me arrojaste detrás de tus espaldas(N); 10 por tanto, he aquí, traigo mal sobre la casa de Jeroboam, y cortaré de Jeroboam a todo varón[c], tanto esclavo como libre en Israel(O); barreré completamente la casa de Jeroboam(P), como se barre el estiércol hasta que desaparece del todo. 11 Cualquiera de los de Jeroboam que muera en la ciudad, se lo comerán los perros. Y el que muera en el campo, se lo comerán las aves del cielo(Q); porque el Señor ha hablado”». 12 Y tú, levántate, vete a tu casa. Cuando tus pies entren en la ciudad, el niño morirá(R). 13 Y todo Israel hará duelo por él y lo sepultarán, pues solo este de la familia de Jeroboam irá a la sepultura, porque de la casa de Jeroboam, solo en él fue hallado algo bueno hacia el Señor, Dios(S) de Israel. 14 Y el Señor levantará para sí un rey sobre Israel que destruirá la casa de Jeroboam(T) en este día, y de ahora en adelante[d]. 15 El Señor, pues, herirá a Israel, como se agita una caña en el agua, y Él arrancará a Israel(U) de esta buena tierra(V) que dio a sus padres(W), y los esparcirá más allá del río Eufrates, porque han hecho sus Aseras[e], provocando a ira al Señor(X). 16 Y abandonará a Israel a causa de los pecados que cometió[f] Jeroboam y con los cuales hizo pecar a Israel(Y).

17 Entonces la mujer de Jeroboam se levantó, se fue y llegó a Tirsa(Z). Y al entrar ella por el umbral de la casa, el niño murió(AA). 18 Y todo Israel lo sepultó e hizo duelo por él(AB), conforme a la palabra que el Señor había hablado por medio[g] de su siervo, el profeta Ahías.

Reinado de Roboam

21 (AD)Y Roboam, hijo de Salomón, reinó en Judá. Roboam tenía cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad que el Señor había escogido de entre todas las tribus de Israel para poner allí su nombre. El nombre de su madre era Naama, amonita(AE). 22 Judá hizo lo malo(AF) ante los ojos del Señor, y le provocaron a celos(AG) más que todo lo que sus padres le habían provocado con los[i] pecados que habían hecho[j]. 23 Porque ellos también edificaron para sí lugares altos(AH), pilares(AI) sagrados y Aseras(AJ) en toda colina alta y bajo todo árbol frondoso(AK). 24 Hubo también en la tierra sodomitas de cultos paganos(AL). Hicieron conforme a todas las abominaciones de las naciones que el Señor había echado delante de los hijos de Israel.

25 Y sucedió que en el quinto año del rey Roboam, Sisac, rey de Egipto, subió contra Jerusalén(AM). 26 Y tomó los tesoros de la casa del Señor y los tesoros del palacio del rey; se apoderó de todo, llevándose aun[k] todos los escudos de oro que había hecho Salomón(AN). 27 Entonces el rey Roboam hizo escudos de bronce en su lugar, y los entregó al cuidado[l] de los jefes de la guardia[m](AO) que custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey. 28 Y sucedía que cuando el rey entraba en la casa del Señor, los de la guardia los llevaban; después los devolvían a la sala de los de la guardia.

29 Los demás hechos de Roboam y todo lo que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas(AP) de los reyes de Judá? 30 Y hubo guerra continua entre Roboam y Jeroboam(AQ). 31 Y durmió Roboam con sus padres y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de David; y el nombre de su madre era Naama, amonita(AR). Y su hijo Abiam[n] reinó en su lugar.

Ahijah’s Prophecy Against Jeroboam

14 At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became ill, 2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, “Go, disguise yourself, so you won’t be recognized as the wife of Jeroboam. Then go to Shiloh. Ahijah(A) the prophet is there—the one who told me I would be king over this people. 3 Take ten loaves of bread(B) with you, some cakes and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will happen to the boy.” 4 So Jeroboam’s wife did what he said and went to Ahijah’s house in Shiloh.

Now Ahijah could not see; his sight was gone because of his age. 5 But the Lord had told Ahijah, “Jeroboam’s wife is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill, and you are to give her such and such an answer. When she arrives, she will pretend to be someone else.”

6 So when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps at the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why this pretense?(C) I have been sent to you with bad news. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam that this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:(D) ‘I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler(E) over my people Israel. 8 I tore(F) the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right(G) in my eyes. 9 You have done more evil(H) than all who lived before you.(I) You have made for yourself other gods, idols(J) made of metal; you have aroused(K) my anger and turned your back on me.(L)

10 “‘Because of this, I am going to bring disaster(M) on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel—slave or free.[a](N) I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone.(O) 11 Dogs(P) will eat those belonging to Jeroboam who die in the city, and the birds(Q) will feed on those who die in the country. The Lord has spoken!’

12 “As for you, go back home. When you set foot in your city, the boy will die. 13 All Israel will mourn for him and bury him. He is the only one belonging to Jeroboam who will be buried, because he is the only one in the house of Jeroboam in whom the Lord, the God of Israel, has found anything good.(R)

14 “The Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who will cut off the family of Jeroboam. Even now this is beginning to happen.[b] 15 And the Lord will strike Israel, so that it will be like a reed swaying in the water. He will uproot(S) Israel from this good land that he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they aroused(T) the Lord’s anger by making Asherah(U) poles.[c] 16 And he will give Israel up because of the sins(V) Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit.”

17 Then Jeroboam’s wife got up and left and went to Tirzah.(W) As soon as she stepped over the threshold of the house, the boy died. 18 They buried him, and all Israel mourned for him, as the Lord had said through his servant the prophet Ahijah.

19 The other events of Jeroboam’s reign, his wars and how he ruled, are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel. 20 He reigned for twenty-two years and then rested with his ancestors. And Nadab his son succeeded him as king.

Rehoboam King of Judah(X)

21 Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.(Y)

22 Judah(Z) did evil in the eyes of the Lord. By the sins they committed they stirred up his jealous anger(AA) more than those who were before them had done. 23 They also set up for themselves high places, sacred stones(AB) and Asherah poles(AC) on every high hill and under every spreading tree.(AD) 24 There were even male shrine prostitutes(AE) in the land; the people engaged in all the detestable(AF) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.

25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt attacked(AG) Jerusalem. 26 He carried off the treasures of the temple(AH) of the Lord and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including all the gold shields(AI) Solomon had made. 27 So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.(AJ) 28 Whenever the king went to the Lord’s temple, the guards bore the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.

29 As for the other events of Rehoboam’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 30 There was continual warfare(AK) between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. 31 And Rehoboam rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.(AL) And Abijah[d] his son succeeded him as king.
