7 And they said to him, If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them and answer them with good words, they will be your servants forever.
8 But he forsook the counsel the old men gave him and consulted the young men who grew up with him and stood before him.
9 He said to them, What do you advise that we answer this people who have said, Make the yoke your father put on us lighter?

7 They replied, “If today you will be a servant to these people and serve them and give them a favorable answer,(A) they will always be your servants.”
8 But Rehoboam rejected(B) the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. 9 He asked them, “What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”

9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
