³ He had seven hundred wives who were princesses and three hundred who were concubines,^(A) and they turned his heart away.^(B)

⁴ When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away to follow other gods. He was not wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord his God, as his father David had been.^(A)

Israel’s King Nadab

²⁵ Nadab son of Jeroboam^(A) became king over Israel in the second year of Judah’s King Asa; he reigned over Israel two years.

²⁶ Nadab did what was evil in the Lord’s sight and walked in the ways of his father and the sin he had caused Israel to commit.^(A)

²⁵ Still, there was no one like Ahab, who devoted himself to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight, because his wife Jezebel incited him.^(A)

Israel’s King Ahaziah

⁵¹ Ahaziah^(A) son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria^(B) in the seventeenth year of Judah’s King Jehoshaphat,^(C) and he reigned over Israel two years. ⁵² He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.^(D) He walked in the ways of his father,^(E) in the ways of his mother,^(F) and in the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin.^{(G) 53} He served Baal and bowed in worship to him.^(H) He angered the Lord God of Israel just as his father had done.^(I)

Judah’s King Jehoram

¹⁶ In the fifth year^(A) of Israel’s King Joram^(B) son of Ahab, Jehoram^[a](C) son of Jehoshaphat became king of Judah, replacing his father.^[b](D)
