The Queen of Sheba

10 (A)Now when the (B)queen of (C)Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came (D)to test him with difficult questions. So she came to Jerusalem with a very large retinue, with camels (E)carrying spices and very much gold and precious stones. When she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. Solomon [a]answered all her questions; nothing was hidden from the king which he did not [b]explain to her. When the queen of Sheba perceived all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his waiters and their attire, his cupbearers, and [c]his stairway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her. Then she said to the king, “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. Nevertheless I did not believe the [d]reports, until I came and my eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told me. You exceed in wisdom and prosperity the report which I heard. How (F)blessed are your men, how blessed are these your servants who stand before you continually and hear your wisdom. (G)Blessed be the Lord your God who delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel; (H)because the Lord loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, (I)to do justice and righteousness.” 10 (J)She gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and a very great amount of spices and precious stones. Never again did such abundance of spices come in as that which the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon.

11 (K)Also the ships of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir a very great number of almug trees and precious stones. 12 (L)The king made of the almug trees supports for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also lyres and harps for the singers; such almug trees have not come in again nor have they been seen to this day.

13 King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire which she requested, besides what he gave her according to [e]his royal bounty. Then she turned and went to her own land [f]together with her servants.

Wealth, Splendor and Wisdom

14 (M)Now the weight of gold which came in to Solomon in one year was 666 talents of gold, 15 besides that from the traders and the [g]wares of the merchants and all the kings of the (N)Arabs and the governors of the country. 16 (O)King Solomon made 200 large shields of beaten gold, [h]using 600 shekels of gold on each large shield. 17 He made (P)300 shields of beaten gold, [i]using three minas of gold on each shield, and (Q)the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon. 18 Moreover, the king made a great throne of (R)ivory and overlaid it with refined gold. 19 There were six steps to the throne and a round top to the throne at its rear, and [j]arms [k]on each side of the seat, and two lions standing beside the [l]arms. 20 Twelve lions were standing there on the six steps on the one side and on the other; nothing like it was made for any other kingdom. 21 All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None was of silver; it was not considered [m]valuable in the days of Solomon. 22 For (S)the king had at sea the ships of Tarshish with the ships of Hiram; once every three years the ships of Tarshish came bringing gold and silver, ivory and apes and peacocks.

23 (T)So King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. 24 All the earth was seeking the presence of Solomon, (U)to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart. 25 (V)They brought every man his gift, articles of silver and gold, garments, weapons, spices, horses, and mules, so much year by year.

26 (W)Now Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; and he had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, and he [n]stationed them in the (X)chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. 27 (Y)The king made silver as common as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the [o]lowland. 28 (Z)Also Solomon’s import of horses was from Egypt and Kue, and the king’s merchants procured them from Kue for a price. 29 A chariot [p]was imported from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver, and a horse for 150; and [q]by the same means they exported them (AA)to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of the Arameans.

Be Imitators of God

(A)Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and (B)walk in love, just as Christ also (C)loved [a]you and (D)gave Himself up for us, an (E)offering and a sacrifice to God [b]as a (F)fragrant aroma.

But (G)immorality [c]or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among [d]saints; and there must be no (H)filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which (I)are not fitting, but rather (J)giving of thanks. For this you know with certainty, that (K)no [e]immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom (L)of Christ and God.

(M)Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things (N)the wrath of God comes upon (O)the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be (P)partakers with them; for (Q)you were formerly (R)darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as (S)children of Light (for (T)the fruit of the Light consists in all (U)goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 [f](V)trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 (W)Do not participate in the unfruitful (X)deeds of (Y)darkness, but instead even [g](Z)expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things become visible (AA)when they are [h]exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14 For this reason [i]it says,

(AB)Awake, sleeper,
And arise from (AC)the dead,
And Christ (AD)will shine on you.”

15 Therefore [j]be careful how you (AE)walk, not (AF)as unwise men but as wise, 16 [k](AG)making the most of your time, because (AH)the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but (AI)understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And (AJ)do not get drunk with wine, [l]for that is (AK)dissipation, but be (AL)filled with the Spirit, 19 (AM)speaking to [m]one another in (AN)psalms and (AO)hymns and spiritual (AP)songs, (AQ)singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 (AR)always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to [n](AS)God, even the Father; 21 [o](AT)and be subject to one another in the [p](AU)fear of Christ.

Marriage Like Christ and the Church

22 (AV)Wives, (AW)be subject to your own husbands, (AX)as to the Lord. 23 For (AY)the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the (AZ)head of the church, He Himself (BA)being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

25 (BB)Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and (BC)gave Himself up for her, 26 (BD)so that He might sanctify her, having (BE)cleansed her by the (BF)washing of water with (BG)the word, 27 that He might (BH)present to Himself the church [q]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be (BI)holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to (BJ)love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are (BK)members of His (BL)body. 31 (BM)For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to (BN)love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she [r](BO)respects her husband.

Family Relationships

(BP)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (BQ)Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.

(BR)Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but (BS)bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(BT)Slaves, be obedient to those who are your [s]masters according to the flesh, with (BU)fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, (BV)as to Christ; (BW)not [t]by way of eyeservice, as (BX)men-pleasers, but as (BY)slaves of Christ, (BZ)doing the will of God from the [u]heart. With good will [v]render service, (CA)as to the Lord, and not to men, (CB)knowing that (CC)whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, (CD)whether slave or free.

And masters, do the same things to them, and (CE)give up threatening, knowing that (CF)both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is (CG)no partiality with Him.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, (CH)be strong in the Lord and in (CI)the strength of His might. 11 (CJ)Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the (CK)schemes of the devil. 12 For our (CL)struggle is not against [w](CM)flesh and blood, but (CN)against the rulers, against the powers, against the (CO)world forces of this (CP)darkness, against the (CQ)spiritual forces of wickedness in (CR)the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up (CS)the full armor of God, so that you will be able to (CT)resist in (CU)the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, (CV)having girded your loins with truth, and having (CW)put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having (CX)shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 [x]in addition to all, taking up the (CY)shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the (CZ)flaming arrows of (DA)the evil one. 17 And take (DB)the helmet of salvation, and the (DC)sword of the Spirit, which is (DD)the word of God.

18 [y]With all (DE)prayer and petition [z](DF)pray at all times (DG)in the Spirit, and with this in view, [aa](DH)be on the alert with all (DI)perseverance and (DJ)petition for all the saints, 19 and (DK)pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me (DL)in the opening of my mouth, to make known with (DM)boldness (DN)the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an (DO)ambassador (DP)in [ab]chains; that [ac]in proclaiming it I may speak (DQ)boldly, (DR)as I ought to speak.

21 (DS)But that you also may know about my circumstances, [ad]how I am doing, (DT)Tychicus, (DU)the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make everything known to you. 22 [ae](DV)I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know [af]about us, and that he may (DW)comfort your hearts.

23 (DX)Peace be to the brethren, and (DY)love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ [ag]with incorruptible love.

Praise to the Lord, and Warning against Unbelief.

95 O come, let us (A)sing for joy to the Lord,
Let us shout joyfully to (B)the rock of our salvation.
Let us (C)come before His presence (D)with [a]thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him (E)with [b]psalms.
For the Lord is a (F)great God
And a great King (G)above all gods,
In whose hand are the (H)depths of the earth,
The peaks of the mountains are His also.
[c]The sea is His, for it was He (I)who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us (J)worship and bow down,
Let us (K)kneel before the Lord our (L)Maker.
For He is our God,
And (M)we are the people of His [d](N)pasture and the sheep of His hand.
(O)Today, [e]if you would hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as at [f](P)Meribah,
As in the day of [g](Q)Massah in the wilderness,
“When your fathers (R)tested Me,
They tried Me, though they had seen My work.
10 “For (S)forty years I loathed that generation,
And said they are a people who err in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
11 “Therefore I (T)swore in My anger,
Truly they shall not enter into My (U)rest.”

A Call to Worship the Lord the Righteous Judge.

96 (V)Sing to the Lord a (W)new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
(X)Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
Tell of (Y)His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
For (Z)great is the Lord and (AA)greatly to be praised;
He is to be (AB)feared (AC)above all gods.
For (AD)all the gods of the peoples are [h]idols,
But (AE)the Lord made the heavens.
(AF)Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

[i]Ascribe to the Lord, O (AG)families of the peoples,
[j](AH)Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
[k]Ascribe to the Lord the (AI)glory of His name;
Bring an [l](AJ)offering and come into His courts.
(AK)Worship the Lord in [m]holy attire;
(AL)Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the nations, “(AM)The Lord reigns;
Indeed, the (AN)world is firmly established, it will not be moved;
He will (AO)judge the peoples with [n]equity.”

11 Let the (AP)heavens be glad, and let the (AQ)earth rejoice;
Let (AR)the sea [o]roar, and [p]all it contains;
12 Let the (AS)field exult, and all that is in it.
Then all the (AT)trees of the forest will sing for joy
13 Before the Lord, (AU)for He is coming,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
(AV)He will judge the world in righteousness
And the peoples in His faithfulness.
