40 (A)Hiram also made (B)the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram finished all the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of the Lord: 41 the two pillars, the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars, and the two (C)latticeworks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the tops of the pillars; 42 and the (D)four hundred pomegranates for the two latticeworks, two rows of pomegranates for each latticework, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars; 43 the ten stands, and the ten basins on the stands; 44 and (E)the one sea, and the twelve oxen underneath the sea.

45 Now (F)the pots, the shovels, and the basins, all these vessels in the house of the Lord, which Hiram made for King Solomon, were of burnished bronze. 46 In the plain of the Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground between (G)Succoth and (H)Zarethan. 47 And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because there were so many of them; (I)the weight of the bronze was not ascertained.

48 So Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of the Lord: (J)the golden altar, (K)the golden table for (L)the bread of the Presence, 49 (M)the lampstands of pure gold, five on the south side and five on the north, before the inner sanctuary; (N)the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of gold; 50 the cups, snuffers, basins, dishes for incense, and (O)fire pans, of pure gold; and the sockets of gold, for the doors of the innermost part of the house, (P)the Most Holy Place, and for the doors of the nave of the temple.

51 Thus all the work that King Solomon did on the house of the Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in (Q)the things that David his father had dedicated, the silver, the gold, and the vessels, and stored them in the treasuries of the house of the Lord.

The Ark Brought into the Temple

(R)Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, (S)the leaders of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, (T)to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of (U)the city of David, which is Zion. And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at (V)the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. And all the elders of Israel came, and (W)the priests took up the ark. And they brought up the ark of the Lord, (X)the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up. And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, (Y)sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. (Z)Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord (AA)to its place in (AB)the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles. (AC)And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Holy Place before (AD)the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside. And they are there to this day. There was nothing in the ark except (AE)the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where (AF)the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10 And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, (AG)a cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

20 (A)Reproaches have broken my heart,
    so that I am in (B)despair.
I (C)looked for (D)pity, but there was none,
    and for (E)comforters, but I found none.
21 They gave me (F)poison for food,
    and for my thirst they gave me (G)sour wine to drink.

22 (H)Let their own (I)table before them become a snare;
    (J)and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.[a]
23 (K)Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see,
    (L)and make their loins tremble continually.
24 Pour out your indignation upon them,
    and let your burning anger overtake them.
25 (M)May their camp be a desolation;
    let no one dwell in their tents.
26 For they (N)persecute him whom (O)you have struck down,
    and they recount the pain of (P)those you have wounded.
27 (Q)Add to them punishment upon punishment;
    may they have no acquittal from you.[b]
28 Let them be (R)blotted out of the book of the living;
    let them not be (S)enrolled among the righteous.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 69:22 Hebrew; a slight revocalization yields (compare Septuagint, Syriac, Jerome) a snare, and retribution and a trap
  2. Psalm 69:27 Hebrew may they not come into your righteousness

12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When (A)the Spirit of truth comes, (B)he will (C)guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but (D)whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will (E)glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 (F)All that the Father has is mine; (G)therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy

16 (H)“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and (I)again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So (J)some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, (K)‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, (L)‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? (M)We do not know what he is talking about.” 19 (N)Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, (O)you will weep and lament, but (P)the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but (Q)your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 (R)When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 (S)So also you have sorrow now, but (T)I will see you again, and (U)your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 (V)In that day you will (W)ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, (X)whatever you ask of the Father in my name, (Y)he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. (Z)Ask, and you will receive, (AA)that your joy may be full.
