²⁵ Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, ^(A)‘You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk before Me as you have walked before Me.’

⁴ that the Lord may ^(A)fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, ^(B)‘If your sons take heed to their way, to ^(C)walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,’ He said, ^(D)‘you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’

¹⁷ “For thus says the Lord: ‘David shall never ^(A)lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; ¹⁸ nor shall the ^(B)priests, the Levites, lack a man to ^(C)offer burnt offerings before Me, to ^[a]kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually.’ ”

The Permanence of God’s Covenant

¹⁹ And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁰ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season, ²¹ then ^(D)My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers. ²² As ^(E)the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I ^(F)multiply the descendants of David My servant and the ^(G)Levites who minister to Me.’ ”

²³ Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁴ “Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have ^(H)despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.

²⁵ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If ^(I)My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not ^(J)appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, ^26 (K)then I will ^(L)cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’ ”

¹⁶ Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, ^(A)‘You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, ^(B)only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’ ¹⁷ And now, O Lord God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David.

⁴ Now if you ^(A)walk before Me ^(B)as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you ^(C)keep My statutes and My judgments, ⁵ then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, ^(D)as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’ ^6 (E)But if you or your sons at all ^[a]turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,

²⁷ For You, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.

²⁸ “And now, O Lord God, You are God, and ^(A)Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant. ²⁹ Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord God, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed ^(B)forever.”

⁹ “As for you, my son Solomon, ^(A)know the God of your father, and serve Him ^(B)with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for ^(C)the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. ^(D)If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will ^(E)cast you off forever.

²³ “And now, O Lord, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, let it be established forever, and do as You have said. ²⁴ So let it be established, that Your name may be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, is Israel’s God.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You. ²⁵ For You, O my God, ^[a]have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house. Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray before You. ²⁶ And now, Lord, ^[b]You are God, and have promised this goodness to Your servant. ²⁷ Now You have been pleased to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You have blessed it, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever.”
