6 In the four hundred eightieth year after the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the Lord.^(A)

Solomon Builds the Temple

3 Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had designated, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.^{(A) 2} He began to build on the second day of the second month of the fourth year of his reign.

⁴⁷ But it was Solomon who built a house for him.

⁵ like living stones let yourselves be built^[a] into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.^(A)

¹⁹ Grant to my son Solomon that with single mind he may keep your commandments, your decrees, and your statutes, performing all of them, and that he may build the temple^[a] for which I have made provision.”^(A)

³⁷ In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv.^(A)

¹⁰ For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.^(A)

¹¹ But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come,^[a] then through the greater and more perfect tent^[b] (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation),^(A)

⁷ rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.^(A)

²⁰ built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone;^{[a](A) 21} in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord,^{(B) 22} in whom you also are built together spiritually^[b] into a dwelling place for God.
