²¹ Moreover you shall select from all the people ^(A)able men, such as ^(B)fear God, ^(C)men of truth, ^(D)hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

²³ And ^(A)Joab was over all the army of Israel; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; ²⁴ Adoram was ^(B)in charge of revenue; ^(C)Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; ²⁵ Sheva was scribe; ^(D)Zadok and Abiathar were the priests; ^26 (E)and Ira the Jairite was ^[a]a chief minister under David.
