That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask what I should give you.”(A) Solomon said to God, “You have shown great and steadfast love to my father David and have made me succeed him as king.(B) O Lord God, let your promise to my father David now be fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.(C) 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of yours?”(D) 11 God answered Solomon, “Because this was in your heart and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you and have not even asked for long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may rule my people over whom I have made you king,(E) 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. 46 They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”(E) 48 Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” 50 So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher,[a] let me see again.”(F)
