^5 (A)At Gibeon ^(B)the Lord appeared to Solomon ^(C)in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.”

^5 (A)If any of you lacks wisdom, ^(B)let him ask God, ^(C)who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. ⁶ But ^(D)let him ask in faith, ^(E)with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like ^(F)a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

^2 (A)the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

Solomon Prays for Wisdom

^7 (A)In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.” ⁸ And Solomon said to God, “You have shown great and steadfast love to David my father, ^(B)and have made me king in his place. ⁹ O Lord God, ^(C)let your word to David my father be now fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous ^(D)as the dust of the earth. ¹⁰ Give me now wisdom and knowledge to ^(E)go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?” ¹¹ God answered Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for ^(F)possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king, ¹² wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you ^(G)riches, possessions, and honor, ^(H)such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.”

⁶ And he said, “Hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make myself known to him ^(A)in a vision; I speak with him ^(B)in a dream.

^13 (A)Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that ^(B)the Father may be glorified in the Son. ^14 (C)If you ask me^[a] anything in my name, I will do it.

³⁶ And he said to them, ^(A)“What do you want me to do for you?”

¹² And he ^(A)dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder^[a] set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, ^(B)the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! ¹³ And behold, ^(C)the Lord stood above it^[b] and said, ^(D)“I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. ^(E)The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring.

The Flight to Egypt

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, ^(A)an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”
