⁵² He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord ^(A)and walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

Ahab's Repentance

²⁵ (^(A)There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited.

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door and ^(A)knock. ^(B)If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, ^(C)I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

²⁴ And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.”

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly.

²² And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace can there be, so long as ^(A)the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?”

²⁷ He also walked in the way of the house of Ahab and did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was son-in-law to the house of Ahab.

³ Nevertheless, he clung to ^(A)the sin of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(B)which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from it.

² Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria, and lay sick; so he sent messengers, telling them, “Go, inquire of ^(A)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, ^(B)whether I shall recover from this sickness.” ³ But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah ^(C)the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of ^(D)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? ⁴ Now therefore thus says the Lord, ^(E)You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’” So Elijah went.

⁵ The messengers returned to the king, and he said to them, “Why have you returned?” ⁶ And they said to him, “There came a man to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go back to the king who sent you, and say to him, Thus says the Lord, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of ^(F)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’” ⁷ He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came to meet you and told you these things?”
