⁵ Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, ^(A)“Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”

⁵ Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”

So they said, “Go up, for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.”

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, ^(A)“Please, let our petition be acceptable to you, and ^(B)pray for us to the Lord your God, for all this remnant (since we are left but ^(C)a few of many, as you can see), ³ that the Lord your God may show us ^(D)the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do.”

⁴ Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard. Indeed, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words, and it shall be, that ^(E)whatever the Lord answers you, I will declare it to you. I will ^(F)keep nothing back from you.”

⁵ So they said to Jeremiah, ^(G)“Let the Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not do according to everything which the Lord your God sends us by you. ⁶ Whether it is ^[a]pleasing or ^[b]displeasing, we will ^(H)obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we send you, ^(I)that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.”

^2 (A)“Please inquire of the Lord for us, for ^[a]Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps the Lord will deal with us according to all His wonderful works, that the king may go away from us.”

¹¹ But ^(A)Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?”

So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who ^(B)poured^[a] water on the hands of Elijah.”

^21 (A)He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him ^(B)by the judgment of the Urim. ^(C)At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him—all the congregation.”

As I live,” says the Lord God, ^(B)“I will not be inquired of by you.” ’

³ “Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them ^(A)that which causes them to stumble into iniquity. ^(B)Should I let Myself be inquired of at all by them?
