¹⁷ Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered^(A) on the hills like sheep without a shepherd,^(B) and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’”

³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them,^(A) because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.^(B)

¹⁷ to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”^(A)

³⁴ But someone drew his bow^(A) at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.” ³⁵ All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died. ³⁶ As the sun was setting, a cry spread through the army: “Every man to his town. Every man to his land!”^(B)

¹⁶ Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel^(A) scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd,^(B) and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’”

¹⁷ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”

¹¹ He saw heaven opened^(A) and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. ¹² It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. ¹³ Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

¹⁴ “Surely not, Lord!”^(B) Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”^(C)

¹⁵ The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”^(D)

¹⁶ This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

¹⁷ While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision,^(E) the men sent by Cornelius^(F) found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate.

The Shepherd Struck, the Sheep Scattered

⁴ You have not strengthened the weak or healed^(A) the sick or bound up^(B) the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally.^{(C) 5} So they were scattered because there was no shepherd,^(D) and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild animals.^{(E) 6} My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill.^(F) They were scattered^(G) over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for them.^(H)
