¹⁶ And as soon as Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

¹⁵ Forsaking the right way, ^(A)they have gone astray. They have followed ^(B)the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved ^(C)gain from wrongdoing,

³² Though they know ^(A)God's righteous decree that those who practice such things ^(B)deserve to die, they not only do them but ^(C)give approval to those who practice them.

¹⁵ And David said longingly, “Oh, that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is by the gate!” ¹⁶ Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it. He poured it out to the Lord ¹⁷ and said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this. Shall I drink ^(A)the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.

²⁵ David said to the messenger, “Thus shall you say to Joab, ‘Do not let this matter displease you, for the sword devours now one and now another. Strengthen your attack against the city and overthrow it.’ And encourage him.”

²⁶ When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she lamented over her husband. ²⁷ And when the mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and ^(A)she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.

⁹ But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, ^(A)“As the Lord lives, ^(B)who has redeemed my life out of every adversity, ^10 (C)when one told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was bringing good news, ^(D)I seized him and killed him at Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news. ¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous man in his own house on his bed, shall I not now ^(E)require his blood at your hand and destroy you from the earth?” ¹² And David commanded his young men, and they killed them and cut off their hands and feet and hanged them beside the pool at Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth and buried it ^(F)in the tomb of Abner at Hebron.
