⁴ And the king of Israel answered and said, “My lord, O king, just as you say, I and all that I have are yours.”

¹⁴ Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose on me I will pay.” And the king of Assyria assessed Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. ¹⁵ So Hezekiah ^(A)gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king’s house. ¹⁶ At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave ^[a]it to the king of Assyria.

⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people ^(A)hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes, and in pits. ⁷ And some of the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan to the ^(B)land of Gad and Gilead.

As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

¹¹ Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, “Do you not know that the Philistines ^(A)rule over us? What is this you have done to us?”

And he said to them, “As they did to me, so I have done to them.”

¹² But they said to him, “We have come down to arrest you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.”

Then Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not kill me yourselves.”

¹³ So they spoke to him, saying, “No, but we will tie you securely and deliver you into their hand; but we will surely not kill you.” And they bound him with two ^(B)new ropes and brought him up from the rock.

⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you, in ^(A)hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He ^(B)will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you.
