²¹ The king of Israel advanced and overpowered the horses and chariots and inflicted heavy losses on the Arameans.

²⁴ But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and fought them until they fled. And the Israelites invaded the land and slaughtered the Moabites.

¹⁸ This is an easy^(A) thing in the eyes of the Lord; he will also deliver Moab into your hands.

⁵² Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath^[a] and to the gates of Ekron.^(A) Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim^(B) road to Gath and Ekron.

²⁰ Then Saul and all his men assembled and went to the battle. They found the Philistines in total confusion, striking^(A) each other with their swords. ²¹ Those Hebrews who had previously been with the Philistines and had gone up with them to their camp went^(B) over to the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan. ²² When all the Israelites who had hidden^(C) in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were on the run, they joined the battle in hot pursuit.

²³ Israelites from Naphtali, Asher^(A) and all Manasseh were called out,^(B) and they pursued the Midianites.^{(C) 24} Gideon sent messengers throughout the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against the Midianites and seize the waters of the Jordan^(D) ahead of them as far as Beth Barah.”

So all the men of Ephraim were called out and they seized the waters of the Jordan as far as Beth Barah. ²⁵ They also captured two of the Midianite leaders, Oreb and Zeeb^(E). They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb,^(F) and Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued the Midianites^(G) and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon, who was by the Jordan.^(H)

²⁸ “Follow me,” he ordered, “for the Lord has given Moab,^(A) your enemy, into your hands.^(B)” So they followed him down and took possession of the fords of the Jordan^(C) that led to Moab; they allowed no one to cross over.
